Reds GM Nick Krall announces that OF Shogo Akiyama has not made the team. Akiyama has the ability to become a free agent.

In two years with the Reds, Akiyama hit .224 in 317 at bats

C. Trent Rosecrans @ctrent

Andrew Knapp, Trey Wingenter reassigned.
Knapp has an out on Monday.
Wingenter is injured and although he has an out, he will be going to AAA

That, of course, means Aramis Garcia has won the Reds backup catcher spot

Glad to see Votto wasn't hurt yesterday. Sorry to see Shogo gone, was hoping for a rebound season for him. Sayonara, Sho-san.

Joey Votto just hit the most impressive homer of the Reds spring.

464 feet, over the four rows of cactuses in the center field batter’s eye.

In the regular season Moran is going to average 2 splinters per game. Schrock has stolen the DH spot from him I think.

Grand Slam Aquino !!!

Aristides Aquino just hit a grand slam that was almost as impressive as Joey Votto’s home run.

On a line drive down the left field line, Aquino hits a grand slam against a left-handed pitcher. 114 mph off the bat.

Max Schrock just hopped off the field after making contact at the plate.

He slammed his helmet to the ground. A really, really tough break for the best hitter in the Cactus League.

This depresses hell outta me :(

Well that sucks about Schrock, hopefully a minor thing similar to Solano

Drury might the big winner in all this. He hit pretty well last year for the Mets and has had a nice albeit short spring. He might deserve a little more attention.

Calf strain for Schrock...

Fraley with three walks in three trips to the plate today.

He's done everything asked of him so far this spring to endear himself to Reds' fans.

Too bad he was dealt for Winker, as the two of them in the same OF would have been a solid pairing.

I like him as the #2 hitter versus RH pitching.

A Pham bam makes it 10-2.

Votto's second double of the day might well mean he's locking in.

That's good to see.

Stand by my opposite of FCB prediction that this India-Votto-Pham led offense should be able to put up some runs to at least be middle of the pack

It’s the pitching that I’m concerned about

It's so difficult to read into anything with spring training stats, but to me I'm encouraged today because of the pitching, the fact with a .500 record the Reds are bombing the D'backs, who happen to have a winning record. And I'm REALLY not missing the offense from last year.

Kind of miss Suarez striking out every time someone was on base. (sarc)

Kyle Zimmer seems like he could be interesting...

He, Buck Farmer, Reiver Sanmartin, Luis Cessa, Tony Santillan, Art Warren, and Ryan Hendrix have pitched 30 innings and have yet to give up a run amongst them.

Were that to continue throughout the entirety of the regular season, I'd argue the Reds would have a pretty good bullpen. ;)

Lodolo deserves to be in the rotation to start the season. 11.1 innings with 3 runs allowed, a 0.97 whip, and a BB/SO ration of 2/12. He went 4 innings and 70 pitches today. He's more big league ready than Greene and is much better than Gutierrez.

Moran 3-5 with 4 RBIs today, maybe he isn't history's greatest monster after all?

He's still blocking Schrock, Lopez and to a lesser extent Freidl for no apparent reason. If you are going to punt the season in November, why block younger guys with a re-tread signing in March? If he was a signing to be a cornerstone for three or four years, I'd get it, but he's a stopgap that barely fills the gap he's supposed to stop and they have other in-house stoppers for that same gap.

Unless he performs so well that the Reds could deal him in July for a long-term piece (something I can't imagine happening), he's roster clutter.
