The catcher will use a wristband to call pitches with everyone on the mound. They’ll use it to work with the run game as well.

To explain this a little more, here’s how pitches get called:

Tyler Stephenson will be wearing a wristband today with buttons on it. Those buttons single different pitches/locations.

The pitcher has a speaker in his hat. Mahle will hear a Siri voice say “fastball away."

This is one of the biggest developments in baseball right now.

For generations, catchers called pitches the same way. Now, it’s different.

It’s expected to improve pace of play. The catcher can call pitches before the pitcher gets set.
