Yep. Between DH and keeping Votto fresh at 1B (as the RHH half of a back-up platoon), I'd rather see Stephenson starting closer to 140 games than 108, spread among the 3. I'll take 110 behind the plate as a solid floor for a healthy C, though.

My Guess, Garcia back there with Spanish speaking Vlad and Stephenson will be back there for Greene's debut. I agree that Stephenson should be the DH. I think they wanted to give Fraley consecutive starts after a decent game yesterday. Otherwise Pham in LF and Stephenson at DH.

I don’t think it’s a matter of Stephenson being weak or soft or whatever. I think Bell is probably is just trying get García into a game, especially with how hot he was in the spring. Stephenson should prob be DH’ng, but it’s entirely possible Stephenson plays the next 100 games in a row between DH, C, and 1B.

Also, who knows, maybe Stephenson caught that stomach bug that’s going around he woke up this morning and ran to the toilet.

I agree that comparisons to Bench and eras past aren't really valid here. Are we dinging pitchers for not throwing 300 innings per year? Nope. We advance and we learn; it's the NBA is really embracing at this point (to the degree that there are rules about sitting stars for nationally televised games, despite their regular rest regimen), but regular days off really are the best way to maximize performance and reduce injury.

That said: Stephenson at DH tonight? Not so much. When he doesn't catch, I suspect he'll be deployed exclusively against LHP.

I don’t know...Bench is a Hall of Famer with 2 MVP’s. Was consistently an All Star and Gold Glove catcher. “Without change there is no progress but all change is not progress.” I kinda think you play a guy after he was 2-4 with 2 RBI’s. Let him get in a groove. I mean, it’s not like he should be too taxed after 2 games in.

I also played until I was 22 yrs old and hated to miss even one AB or half inning in the field.

These guys today are a lot bigger, faster, and stronger, and better than I was. With all the money invested in these guys I think it's good and smart to keep them rested and healthy

Guys, I really expected to get swept the way the talking went. I saw a team against the defending world champions fight and win the first and rally in the ninth the second and just got out-pitched tonight, and our pitching was okay. There's was unbelievable. I still have hope for a winning season if the pitching comes around. One thing is for sure, you're not going to win games as long as you start rookies. It is just not going to happen with our rookies. Trading Gray and not having Castillo hurts and with no replacements, it is what it is.
