Aquino slashed .320/.391/.767 for the month of August 2019 winning player of the month. Has there ever been a player with those stats sustained for an entire month that did absolutely nothing afterwards?

Looking at Overton in AAA he doesn't walk batters. Or at least he hasn't down there. Hopefully he pitches well and sticks in the rotation. Sanmartin and for that matter Vlad needs replaced.

One thing that has actually improved greatly on this team is OF defense. But I'd still rather have Winker and Castellanos out there in the corner spots.

I had a hamstring injury once and it felt fine until I tried to turn it up to 90+% and it would flare up again. It bothered me the whole year until I got a full off season to rest it. India may have to just keep it in 3rd gear and play through it or go on the IL for probably a month or so. This doesn't seem like something a few weeks off will completely heal.

I noticed when he GIDP last night he wasn't running well to 1B at all.

Yes, I think he aggravated it then when he tried to put on a burst to beat the DP. When they need to cut the roster by 2 tomorrow, I expect he'll go to the IL and tonight's started pitcher will go back to AAA.

I know there's not a lot of good things for the TV announcers to talk about this year, but man, I am getting tired of hearing about Farmer's bat that he hit 4 doubles with.
Yea, that's kind of rare, but it's really not that spectacular of an event.
I mean, seriously, no one is thinking.. "oh my god, I have to rush over to the Reds Hall of Fame to see the bat that Farmer hit 4 doubles with".
So I guess Farmer wanted to keep it. That's good, he's the one that should keep it.
Maybe I'm wrong, if someone else actually cares about this.. no offense.

I’ll never understand the plan of putting 1 fielder, with minimal range on one side of the field by himself and then pitching to the hitter on the side of the plate to take it that way.

Reds' ugliness appears quickly in a game that was going good for a pitcher pitching the game of his life. Immobile 3B can't get to a slightly wide grounder, then pitcher gets a good routine out and still looks good. Bring in a reliever who walks the first batter then throws meatballs. Opponent ties it it on a terrible relay, then takes a 2 run lead on another meatball. Reds back to their 2022 familiar status in the game, behind late, in just a few minutes!

And there lies the problem. They get a reliever who throws the ball decent for a few games and we cling to hope that he is the answer. Because every reliever is below average.

Yeah I'd largely agree with this but he was genuinely good last year. But still it was 21 innings, that's like 1/3rd the workload of a normal reliever. Not someone the Reds should have been counting on to the degree they were, but then that's the general story of this team.

It isn't Bell's fault this team is bad. But even with what he has he can't manage it worth a crap. It made no sense to take him out but he did it anyway because it seems he does everything by random numbers and rules with no regard for feel or what is actually happening in the game.

I agree in most cases with 3rd time through the order. But not when the bullpen is horrible and taxed. I mean he should have waited till another guy reached base at least.

I'm old. Pitchers used to go through the order 4-5 times. 50 years ago, pitchers would have 20 complete games. 20 years ago, they'd have 10. Now, a guy may have 2.

Garcia - genuinely looks like a nice backup catcher. One positive..

Bard will blow the save. Because he is one of my closers on my fantasy team. (I never pay for good closers.) But the Rockies will win it in the bot of the 10th. This way Bard doesn't get the save or the win.

Warren had been very good so far this season. 6 games, 3.86 ERA, 3.10 FIP. I’m not giving up on him based on one performance at Coors Field.

On a team trying to win, he be the 7th or 8th man in an 8 man pen.

All this harping about Warren is just distracting from the idocracy of Bell taking Overton out just because he was about face the Rockies lineup for the third time. That’s where my frustration is.

might as well have kept him in but I don’t have the same confidence as the rest of RZ that he was gonna keep coasting

Either way it’s Warren’s job to get outs, and he performed miserably

Agree. The idea of a bullpen in a non mop-up outing is to hold down the other team.

It’s a big part of the game today for the pen to do so.

I’m a pretty big Warren advocate and he choked. But why in the world did Overton come out? He still looked good and only had thrown 70 something pitches.

I agree it probably wouldn’t have matter much, But it’s clear that Bell took Overton out for one reason and one reason only, he was about to face the lineup for the third time. I’ve never been a fan of that kinda of dogmatic approach to anything.

I just hated it. For the first time all year your starter has a chance to go 6 and actually looks like he is just fine doing it and you take him out because you are scared and have a stupid set of rules you go by no matter what.

It looks like replacing Aquino with Overton was a good move, though I think if Aquino started today, he would have had more than the three K’s that Overton had.

It boggles my mind that a man would be content to be so bad at owning a team.

Easily the fewest wins in the modern era. The 1916 Athletics own the fewest wins title but they had a .235 winning percentage. The Cincinnati Castellinis would love to have that winning percentage.

Yep, Bell said exactly that in the post-game interview. Also said he had no regrets about bringing in Warren.

I knew we'd be bad. Ownership made that much obvious. I'm kinda amazed at just how bad we are. It's borderline impressive to nail sucking so well you lose 18 of your first 21.

I am seeing more then a few pitchers on other teams going 7 now and throwing over 90 pitches. 3rd time through the order. Bell is being anal and obtuse while doubling down on the I don’t have any regrets over what I did. True leader here.

The NL average for IP per start is currently 4.9 innings per start and the NL average for pitches per start is 81 per start.

Reds are at 4.2 and 77.

Last year the Reds led the NL at 5.3 and 90.

It's not Bell, it's the players, which means it's the front office not giving Bell the players he needs.

I know what the average is. I just pointed out that some pitchers are being allowed to go 3 times through the order with low pitch counts. This was one of those situations where you could have avoided an unreliable bullpen. I know what their numbers were last year too. I didn’t write everyone is going 6-7 innings.

No. It’s been Bell too at times. He knows Moose can’t field but there he is. Even with India out. He’s a DH only. Votto still hitting 4th.
