A couple days ago ( I forget when), I figured out the Reds had to go .422 the rest of the way to avoid 100 losses.
It's a little higher now, but still kind of doable.
Not that I am an optimist, I'm not.. but in theory, they get Castillo back, Mahle straightens out, they might be able to do that .422ish pace
Are they pretty much a lock for 93+ losses? YES.. But remember they have 19 games against the Pirates. That might save them.
Now if they go 2-4 or worse vs the Pirates (I think 6 games are coming up), then yea, that really reduces the hope.
I guess the point is, in the age of tanking, it's really hard to lose 100 games. It would be quite an accomplisment in the Reds pulled it off.
Back in the early 80s when the Reds lost 100 games, everyone was trying to win, the bad teams were mostly inept, not tanking.

Alexis Diaz is the number one positive development on the Reds this year.

One of this FO’s failings is its decision to go with the cheapest possible bullpen. They still don’t get it that in today’s game the bullpen is NOT a secondary factor. Thankfully, in Diaz’ case, they seem to have come up with a real good one.

Nope. When you are a team like the Brewers, who will be fighting for a playoff spot, you have to beat up on the littles. The Reds are the smallest of the littles to beat up on.
