The 2022 season is depressing if you are a Reds fan. I did however notice some good news about a former Reds manager: Dusty Baker.
Dusty notched win number 2000 as a manager, the 12th manager to achieve 2000 wins. Ten of the other eleven managers with 2000 wins are in the Hall of Fame, and the guy who is not yet in the HOF, Bruce Bochy, probably will be inducted.
The knock on Dusty has been that none of his teams have won a World Series. His season record is better than Bochy's, with Dusty 2000-1745 and Bochy 2003-2029. However, Bochy has three World Series rings whereas Dusty's two World Series teams came up short.
There is a precedent for HOF induction of managers whose teams never won a World series. Al Lopez had a career managerial record of 1410-1004 and Wilbert Robinson had a career managerial mark of 1399-1398, but each man's teams came up short in the World Series, with each one losing both World Series they appeared in.
My guess is that Dusty eventually is inducted. I hope it is while he is still alive and can enjoy it.

He will probably get in but may not live to see it. Managers usually don't make it quickly to the HOF.

Dusty, big congrats on 2000 @mlb wins! That’s like 25,000 cellphones, music speakers, and tv’s you had players turn off 30 minutes before the game to get locked in for competition. Much love, my friend.

Dusty should be a freaking lock. He invented the high five, that alone should get him in.

Dusty has managed five different teams. All five have made playoffs. I think that's remarkable. I doubt anyone else can match that. You would think there would have been a real lemon in there that just could not have made it.

Don't forget the boon to the toothpick industry either with his daily endorsement.

Seriously, love Dusty and he deserves it for all he has done for the game.

3 of the biggest collapses in postseason history were led by Dusty. He’s been handed some loaded teams and never won.

I feel he’s a HOF guy, tremendous father figure, wonderful grandpa, but to me he’s not a HOF manager.

Dusty is renaissance man....music, food, fly fishing, art. What a man. I'm very good friends with Al Oliver who played with Dusty and is friends with him to this day. Never ceases to amaze me Al picks up phone and texts or calls Dusty all the time to talk about whatever. He holds Dusty in high regard. Anyway....I hope Dusty does make it. I hope Al does too but it's not looking good.

If he's not a lock then something is amiss IMO.

Compare Dusty's record with the Reds to any other manager the organization had in the 21st century. Dusty is the man.
