Relief pitcher Jared Solomon, who was added to the 40-man in the 2020 offseason, was named the 27th man for today’s doubleheader.

He started this year in Double-A and has been called up to Triple-A.

In 10 2/3 minor league innings this year, Solomon hasn’t allowed a run. He has 11 strikeouts and just three walks. He missed the 2021 season due to Tommy John surgery.

Much rather see Solomon with the Reds than another AAAA guy. Hope he gets up to big club on a more permanent basis soon, try him in middle relief, see where it goes.

David Bell said Nick Lodolo met with a team doctor yesterday and it was determined he wasn’t ready to come off the IL. There’s no set date for him to start. Bell said he hasn’t been told it’s a long term issue.

Concerning about Lodolo. Hopefully it’s just the team being overly cautious.

By my count when Dugger throws his first pitch that will be the 20th different pitcher to throw a pitch in a game this season. Not counting Matt Reynolds.
Solomon if he indeed throws a pitch will be 21 and Castillo 22.
I am not sure what the record is for number of pitchers used. Maybe last season? But it looks like that will be shattered this year.

That would be incredible if it were July; the fact that we are barely out of April makes it stunning. I think the Reds' record for pitchers in a season is 32. The Mariners set the ML record a few years ago with a staggering 42.

Both are fine players. But if I had to pick one. I would pick Tyler over India as to who ends up with the better career. Highly doubt Tyler will be catching much longer. 1b/DH in his future. But I still like him as the better long term player over India. I just think he is the better hitter and power will come.

Except for a month or so last year he has always been. Hopefully they do the right thing and trade Farmer. He would be a decent bench piece for a contender with his ability to play multiple positions. I wanna see what a healthy Barrero can do at SS full time.

But if he continues to hit like we all think he will. The wear and tear of catching. I think they said he has already had 3 concussions. No doubt he should be moved the minute Votto leaves. It would be great to have him putting up big numbers at catcher. But I'd rather he be healthy playing 150 games a season at 1b vs. 120 at catcher.
I wouldn't be against him catching a couple games a week then playing 1b the rest.

He would be better off having the Reds sell him to Japan. He could hit 40 a year there. I am half way surprised some team didn't claim him. Figured some hitting coach out there might be able to do some tweaking with him and make him serviceable. Power is sought after and he has loads when he gets lucky and connects.

I'd be fine keeping Farmer on a reasonable deal as Barrero. McLain insurance and as a bench piece. He's getting the Garrett treatment this year. Being overexposed in a role he doesn't have the talent for. Use him against LHP and as an insuracen policy for multiple positions, Trading him isn't going to bring anything back and they'll need a guy just like him next year anyway. It will likely cost more to replace him than any value they get for him. JUst accept that he is what he is, pay him for it and be glad they have a decent fundamentally sound vet on the bench to ease the transition.

The problem on this team isn't that the players are so awful that they can't fill roles on a decent team. The problem is they can't really fill the roles they are filling.

I see your point. But also Farmer will start to make close to starter money on his next contract. Might be too much for a bench piece. They aren't going to contend till 2024 at the very earliest. I think he would be better off on a contender. But I wouldn't hate it if they kept him either. Even bad teams need a couple veteran players.

Speed is how teams that go 3-22 start to win games because of athletic ability. Speed is the rate at which some guys get to their position in the field and stops hitting homers, but still takes off-speed pitches at a faster pace. How do you win without hitting homers? Speed figures that out for you. It makes those fast guys who play at 95% of their 100% even more likely to get an 0-fer than a slow guy who is only giving 100% of his 75%. And that’s how you go from a bad team to an average team and back to a poor, slow bunch of 85%’ers.

The ultimate goal is to win. But how? Tony Perez told me to win every play. He told me to do it by paying attention and playing the best, hard baseball I could play compared to anyone else within a 5 foot radius. Every night, but only every other night. And I did it, but it was minutia, and that’s how fast we can stop learning to lose and loving to play close baseball. Every play.

And with that we have first basemen who don’t stretch towards the throw on close plays, baserunners who turn to look behind them instead of picking up the base coach, outfielders who catch a fly ball flat footed with no momentum and on wrong side of their body.

Those are all things that are mastered before high school.

With as many different pitches as he throws. That might give him a fighting chance to get through some lineups for a 3rd time. Right now sadly I'd rather watch him pitch than Greene throwing center cut fastballs.
I hope Greene keeps his head up. Because it looks like he is going to take a beating this year till they shut him down. Doesn't look like they are going to send him down. Because after the beating he took Thur. he is still up.
