Tyler Mahle has said recently how much he wants to get back to his strengths, and he’s leaning on his fastball even more often than usual today.

I kinda like having a glove-first CF, I think it goes along way in overall defense and helps the pitching staff. I don't like up-the-middle defensive projects, especially if they don't hit or can't stay healthy. Not saying Almora is a long-term solution, but I like watching him man center.

I think the point is that WAR is a counting stat, so more PAs should result in a better WAR. I think we know Almora is not the answer. Senzel still has time to become the answer, but he's running out of time. This year he gets all the PA he can get, but if he doesn't take the next step, time to phase him out of the plan the same way Aquino was phased out.

Senzel's issue isn't his playing, its his ability to play. Almora's issue is his devolution and inability to actually hit the ball on a consistent basis (if he had power, he'd be considered a regular but since his contact don't go over the wall, he's a bust).

I guess the question then, statistically, is there enough variance in Nick’s sample size of 670+ ABs to suggest a larger sample might produce a significant shift in the data? I don’t see it. 670 (or whatever the exact # is) ABs spread out over parts of 4 seasons, with results in each that are relatively homogenous.

Almora’s sample is 2x the size of Nick’s, so certainly his sample is more predictive. And I doubt I’d argue that a comparison of both players’ next 1000 AB’s would at all favor Almora. I just don’t think there’s as much difference in the 2 as we might have thought.

As his arbitration salary goes up, the chances of Nick being moved increase.

But he’s only 26.

The worst thing Reds can do is be guided by the frustration caused by Nick’s injuries and absences.

See the same issue with Cessa. Santillan. Lack of work now that the starters have gone more than 5 innings lately. They are not behind. Hoffman is going to be rusty soon too. Maybe it’s all teams but Bell uses who he deemed were the late inning closers. Performance be damned for at least the first month. That’s why you see Warren used more than he should in high leverage situations. Hoffman is the long man type. Or we need someone to eat innings when we’re behind.

I defend Bell on some stuff but Friedl batting leadoff and Naquin batting 6th against RH starters is insane

From the talk by some on here, Bell doesn't make these decisions. We read on RZ all the time that the higher-ups determine who plays, how often they play, where they play, when they play, etc... I personally think Bell determines these things(as he should) but I may be wrong.

I’ve always figured lineups are one thing managers still get some leeway on. Really in general I don’t worry much about batting order other than the very obvious point that your best hitters should be at the top of the lineup to get more ABs. And so Friedl #1 and Naquin #6 is just a blatant example of ignoring that.
