He hit .289/.326/.412 in his first few years with the Cubs and I think he's around that vicinity as a hitter, with perhaps a boost in SLG thanks to GABP. Combined with the good CF defense, that's a nice little player if he keeps it up.

He’s not the hitter he’s shown himself to be, but at GABP he’ll always be better than career norms. And he’s an excellent CF.

I definitely want him to stick around.

I thought he might give the Reds trouble today. They are hitting everything 100 off the bat.

They won the World Series with him, partly because of him. Which raises an interesting question. If a long term contract helps you win a World Series, but then sets you back many years, was it worth it?

Risk or not. I kinda hope the Reds sign Castillo. They will need a good veteran starter with all these young guys.
At least if they have any plans at all to contend.
I suppose they could look for a veteran guy with good underlying stats coming off a bad year instead. To sign to a much cheaper 2 year deal.

no way a guy like reynolds should be on this roster over barrero. and when barrero is on this roster, he needs to be the starting SS, not farmer. i'm appreciative of everything the farm dog has done, but he should be a utility player, not the starting SS.

Barrero IMO Needs a few more AB at Louisville. But yes I agree he needs to be everyday SS when he gets here.
You and I both know he won't be though. Farmer seems to be a favorite in the clubhouse and Bell.
Farmer is league average player. We know what he is.
Barrero may end up being the same or worse than Farmer. But now is the time to find out.

why in the world is there a rule about a required deficit to bring in a position player to pitch? Getting as bad as the NFL with micro ruling the game. Why not just make it scripted so you get the desired outcomes?

Because they have a limit on the number of pitchers that can be on the roster. Its to prevent teams from carrying extra pitchers and calling them outfielders or 3rd catchers. Otherwise, teams could take a guy like Michael Lorenzen (or any pitcher really) and call him an OF and use him exclusively as a pitcher.

No reason he should be at 110 pitches in 6 innings. Even with shifts? That's just not getting it done. Obviously I will never be a manager in baseball, but if I was I'd tell my starters "if you're at 100 pitches you be better be in the seventh inning if you're not pitching against the Mets". ***SCOREBOARD STUMPER***

Since moving to Washington in 2005, the Nationals have had seven players hit 3 homeruns in a game. Two of the seven players accomplished the feat against the Reds, although one of them did so while wearing a uniform other than that of the Nationals.

How many of the seven can you name?

Bryce Harper
Ryan Zimmerman
Anthony Rendon
Alfonso Soriano(Did it twice;once against the Reds as a Cub)
Adam Dunn
Kyle Schwarber
Lane Thomas(yesterday against the Reds)

Honestly, just cut Senzel. Just move on. He sucks.
They won't, of course. And those dreams any of us had of moving him for anything of value were fantasy.

As god awful as that was, he was never tagged

I agree, I'm just answering the question of how you get picked off in that situation and what mindset could be a contributing factor.

He's a reckless type of player, and I don't think he has the best interests of the team at heart. Wasn't it him who refused a minor league stint last year?

And was the play challenged? If I was told I was out and not tagged I would be telling for tge replay.. I was not watching the game today so curious

Honestly, if I was Bell I'd not challenge it on stupidity alone. You do something like THAT, you deserve to be out.

Senzel did not refuse a minor league stint. He went to specialists who confirmed he was still injured. The Reds then reversed the minor league option move.

And while it was an overly aggressive and unnecessary lead at first base, I don’t believe he was tagged out. We can blame him for taking the risk, but ultimately it appeared to me he was safe.

Agree he deserved to be out…but he wasn’t tagged, the cloud of dust I guess caused the proof MLB needed but the home plate camera angle clearly showed his glove above the arm and light between

It didn't appear to me that he was safe. If he was going to lead off that far, he should have shadowed the first baseman, not trail him. Just not smart ball.

Who am I thinking of from last year who refused a minor league stint? Somebody on the team did, I thought for sure it was Senzel.

The 3B coach has the responsibility to warn the runner leading off second about the SS sneaking in behind him, albeit on a pickoff play. Where was DeShields when Bell started breaking toward the bag? Senzel would have been back easily with the coach's warning. I liked the aggressive lead... also agree that the glove passed over his arm without touching based on the view from home.

Bad fielding errors, Senzel picked off first, need to get Votto out just throw inside curve balls,... they should have easily beaten this team full of high ERA's and .200 BAs. If not the bullpen, they will find a way to lose. This team is just not good.

This series cemented the fact that the Reds are, despite a good May, the worst team in the NL.

I still think they might finish ahead of a couple or three teams(depending on whether or not Castillo or Mahle remain Reds). However, any way you slice it, this was a very disappointing series. This was a series they should have been able to win.
