Keefe, I know you have probably mentioned it before, but when was your first Reds' game?

My first game was Reds vs Dodgers at Crosley Field, June 1, 1963. I was 9 yrs old. Joey Jay and the Reds beat Sandy Koufax and the Dodgers 1-0.

I can't remember much at all about the game it's self but I do remember how excited I was to be inside Crosley Field watching my favorite player on my favorite team in person.

I used to save all my ticket stubs, sometimes I wish I still saved them.

Here's the box of my first game on August 20, 1971. Notice that John McSherry was at 1b and Ken Burkhart was at 2b. Burkhart was the ump that made the botched call of Carbo out at home in the sixth inning of a tied Game 1 of the 1970 WS. Who knows what happens if the Reds get that call and go on to win game 1? I never liked Ken Burkhart after that day.

Keefe, I know you have probably mentioned it before, but when was your first Reds' game?

My first game wasn't till 1975. I saw 14 games in 78 most of any year. Saw every NL team-11 games 2 DH Padres and Giants I believe and so Atlanta twice no DH.
My last game was also Arroyo's last game. Told my buddy when we sit down this will be Arroyo's last ML game. Don't get to go much anymore due to back problems and it's near a 3 hour trip.

- - - Updated - - -

I saw Chris Hammond get a Win and hit a HR one year in May I think. Went back in July/Aug he got another Win and hit another HR. In between Hammond went winless.
He should have given me tickets to all his starts.

It's a quick google search. Drury is 29. He's fungible. We've seen him before. He's Scooter Gennett. He's the muscles/chains guy who wore the same number whose name escapes me at the moment. If you can get something for him if he hits fiery hot for a month in GABP and a team bites, you do it.

Brandon Drury signed a 1 year / $900,000 contract with the Cincinnati Reds, including $900,000 guaranteed, and an annual average salary of $900,000. In 2022, Drury will earn a base salary of $900,000, while carrying a total salary of $900,000.

I invoked Kevin Brown earlier, but...kinda serious about that comp. Brown pounded the bottom of the zone. With plus hard stuff. Don't see that come around often. Ashcraft kinda puts me in mind of that. Anyone else old enough to think on that mental comp?

Yeah, not bad. Brown was a ground ball machine. Tough to make solid contact against.

Graham Ashcraft has thrown a pitch in 25 different innings in the big leagues.

He's never faced more than 5 batters in an inning.

He's thrown 20 or more pitches in an inning just thrice and never more than 23 pitches.

Today, his most in an inning is 15 pitches.

He's thrown 15 or fewer pitches in 17 of the 23 innings in which he's gotten all 3 outs.

My logic is that his pitch count was low. He was cruising. I would rather start stretching him out when he is not under stress, like tonight. And I'm not talking about a complete game, but just a little more. We are almost already on Summer now. He has only pitched 4 games. I guess I just don't like how baseball now considers 6 innings as going deep into a game.

However, I would completely agree on taking him out if he said he was getting a little tired. Just my two cents.

He has pitched more than that. he was working a full starting load in the minors before being called up. the innings are cumulative. He was at 111 a year ago. Maybe he can get up to 140 total this year. Maybe. So saving an inning here or there now gets him an extra start later on this summer perhaps.

Yea. There’s plenty to choose from. I just thought that was insane. They also had Terry Forster on that team who would go multiple innings. Along with Wilbur Wood who could go 10 innings plus sometimes and complete half his games. It was an interesting staff. Jim Kaat and Stan Bahnsen were the other starters. I think they went with a 3 man rotation at some point with Wood pulling extra starter duty.

He was just getting warmed up. He even threw 7 innings of relief 2 times as well that year.

No wonder you could carry 9 pitchers back then.

TC, you remember Mike Marshall? I remember in '74 he pitched what seemed like every day. Once pitched in 13 consecutive games for a total of 30 innings. Once threw eleven and a third relief innings in a doubleheader that season( Crazy !) and threw over 208 innings that season.

Loving Votto's energy at the plate. I think he's feeding off how well this team has been playing.

Here I am asking where Khuenel is and no one answered. So of course he came on to finish the inning. Not watching the game. Wondered what happened to him.

Fun fact: the Cincinnati Bengals are paying John and Barry fifty bucks for every football metaphor they make tonight… they’re gonna be very rich dudes.
