With the Reds facing a left-handed starter, Donovan Solano makes his first start for the Reds.

No Mike Moustakas and no Nick Senzel in the lineup. Matt Reynolds will start in right field.

The Reds took the opportunity to keep Matt Reynolds in the lineup versus left-handers.

Against left-handers, Reynolds is hitting .306 this season with a .890 OPS in 36 at-bats.

Farmer and Drury are the only other Reds hitting better against left-handed pitchers than Reynolds.

Donovan Solano, making his season debut tonight, will be the 50th Reds player to appear in a game this season. The club record is 57.

The Pirates are the only team to use more than 50 players this year at 51.

That’s what the rest of 2022 is about for the Reds. Which players leave, which prospects come back, who they draft.

The trade/draft news will often be more exciting than the games.

Never a great thing, but hopefully it leads to a better future.

Best lineup they can put out there. If Stephenson and Naquin were healthy. This would be a .500 lineup

Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their franchise... and rent a seat from Banana Bob

It's time Banana Bob either did what it takes to win like he promised or get out of the way and sell the team. Tax payers paid for that ball park.. the least he could have done is lived up to his promise when he bought the franchise " Bring Championship Baseball back to Cincinnati "

16 seasons and zero playoff series wins, as the Cardinals in 16 years have had 15 winning seasons on thier way to another winning season this year... no Bob isn't getting a free ride anymore especially after his son's comments opening day..
look at the attendance going down every year and to think they were a few pieces away and he screwed up the bullpen giving Iglesias and Archie Bradley away fir nothing then last season saw his bullpen blow games left and right. They are 4 games out at the All Star break and he wasn't proactive enough to go get bullpen help till the dang trade deadline.. then it was too late.. then the team has the easiest schedule and blows it. What does he do in the off season? Extend Bell and gut the team.. so nope he won't get my dollars till a change happens proactively to get the Reds to being a better team with smart people which are not just the insiders promoted without going outside the organization to get smarter win typs.

Sorry for the rant.. just my opinion

I don't know the answer to your question but I know we miss you in the game threads Big Klu.

I haven't followed the club closely this season. I rarely watch them on TV or listen on the radio, and when I do it's just background noise. I still come to RZ, more to be sociable than anything else, but so much has happened to kill my love of the game.

1. The rules changes. Most notably the DH (which I loathe with the intensity of a million suns), but also the Ghost Runner/Manfred Man on 2B in extra innings (which I hate even more than the DH). And the "Covid" DL, where a player might be inactive for only a game or two. It's hard for me to follow a club when I don't know who is on the team from one day to the next.

2. Phil Castellini popping off at the mouth before the home opener. Thanks for letting us know how you really feel about us.

3. The 3-22 start. Way to let all the air out of the balloon, guys.

All of these things together have made me reevaluate how invested I want to be with this club. It's not hard to distance myself, since they have gutted the team like a fish. (Votto is the only player on the team who has been here more than five* years.) I still like coming to RZ and talking baseball history, but my attachment to the Reds is tenuous at best, and I don't know if I will ever enjoy it like I did, and I can easily see myself walking away from it and not coming back.

On the flip side, the extra inning rules don't really come into play as the Reds usually lose without extras. The DH also shouldn't be much of an issue either as most days the Reds' DH is a weaker hitter than Mike Lorenzen.

I don't know what he's using this year. (Like I said, I haven't paid close attention.) But as he is a good Canadian, I've always thought that "Working Man" by Rush would be the perfect song for him. The opening riff would be awesome.

This shows Dodgers lineup construction superior to Bell's. #9 hitter for them has gotten on and started their big inning by having a better hitter there, rather than the Reds having a poor hitter there which when leading off an inning is bad news for the prospects of a scoring inning.

Is that from the standpoint of protecting India's bum leg, or that it wasn't the best chance to score the lead run with 2 out?

I didn't think the ball was hit deep enough for India to score.

Too much cancer.

Lost a friend of 43 years last fall, never called me or told me. His brother called me when he was in hospice to tell me that he wanted me to know he loved me.

Just a kick in the nuts.

Please elaborate.

It’s one of those pink cancer awareness nights and the crowd just held up signs of names of people they know with cancer.

I’m about 6 weeks past radiation and chemo myself so it hits home hard. It knocks the sh*t out of you.

I had always feared cancer because it took my mom and almost my sister when I was a teenage. 35 years later I had quite a battle myself. Grateful to be alive and live a mostly normal life. Too many friends share this struggle

Entering today, Kyle Farmer was hitting .382 versus left-handed pitchers with a 1.199 OPS. He starts today's game with a double.

He ranks third in MLB in OPS versus left-handed pitchers.

Farmer trails Paul Goldschmidt and Willson Contreras.

He's ahead of JD Martinez, Mike Trout and Vlad Guerrero Jr.

Took my dad and mom and brother in law. Tried to get me but my doc says I have a cancer that responds to treatment well. So I went through 8 weeks of radiation and 6 weeks of chemo. PET and CT scans are coming up clean so far fingers crossed. But it was the hardest thing I’ve ever done. Still only at about 60% of what I was. Doc said recovery takes months and I won’t ever come back to what I was pre-treatment.

Bell 0 for 2 at letting a reliever go past one inning. They may be so used to just one, then relax thinking they're done then can't put it together to go back out and be effective!

Yep, I actually guessed to my self if he threw the same pitch again, especially with Senzel being so passive at the plate, it would be called a strike the next time

Same here. The bullpen was pitching well, and the Reds were putting up runs. Now, they're back to doing neither of those things well. Someone mentioned the other day in on RZ that maybe Stephenson being out at C has lead to the drought in runs?

If a reliever is best going one inning, just let him go one inning.

The problem is they are being trained for one inning. When they go in they need to be ready to go until they are pulled. They now don't need to be pinch hit for so no reason to let down at the end of an inning. Lot's of times it is best to let the guy go back out there for at least one batter. If you've got a lefty hitter up 2nd, you'd rather wait until he comes up to bring in the lefty pitcher. Too much emphasis is being put on guys coming in to start an inning clean!
