ATL has the third-highest K% in the Majors. They are the only team w/o a bunt hit.

They also have the 6th-most runs, because they have the 2nd-most HRs .. the best SLG .. the 3rd highest FB%.

They hit the tar out of the ball. Just like they did last year. When they won the WS.

My guess still lingering effects from the previous injury. He was brought back a bit early, and never has seen to be fully healthy, at least to me.

I really hope I'm wrong. But we probably saw India's best season last year.
Probably played a little over his head last year and looks like he is always going to be dealing with nagging to severe injuries.
If they have to pick between India or Stephenson for a LTC down the road.
I certainly hope they sign Stephenson. He can flat out hit.
Again. I really hope I'm wrong as I really like India.

Honestly you can say that about most games. At least the non Minor starts.
I like watching Greene and Ashcraft and Lodolo as well. They will all have good and bad games. But they are at least somewhat interesting to watch. Not much to hold our interest with this club.

I’m convinced they release the lineup before guys show up at the ballpark. In fact, I’d bet these lineups are put together by the front office before Bell gets to the ballpark, which is why it gets changed so often.

The FO has no business making lineups out. They’re statistically analyzing think tank is garbage. The manager should still have say over who starts and where in the lineup they hit. The FO should just worry about getting better players. Hate this garbage.

The front office historically made up the lineup, all the way back to the start of the game, back when the manager was the front office. Today’s managers are basically low level team leaders. David Bell is Lumberg from Office Space.

Dusty Baker clearly made out his own lineups. No way the front office thought that the CF leads off and the SS bats second.

The Reds lineup structure has changed with every new manager. Maybe the front office has influence on the lineups, but most managers throughout MLB history has made out their own lineups each game day.

KeefeCato
07-03-2022, 02:39 PM
Bell posts the lineup for the entire at the Start of each series. So players know when they are playing or not playing.
Then they make a few changes. Due to injury. But this year there always seem to be changes daily after the lineup comes out.
The reason every teams lineup is posted to the public 3-4 hours before first pitch. Is because Vegas wants it. For gambling.

For the biggest part of the history of the game, the manager also did the GM job, so obviously they made the lineup. At some point the position split into the GM/Field Manager dynamic that everyone got used to, but that’s clearly changing again.

But since the Reds are not rebuilding this year, I guess they are playing for every win. They have 26 of them in three months of baseball.

Complaining about a legit #2 starter barely throwing 100 low stress pitches in July. The analytical revolution has really brainwashed people. It’s what is expected and there’s always the chance these teams lowball the Reds and they don’t trade Castillo.

Hank Aaron had three of his biggest hits in Cincinnati. First, the easy one.

1. On Opening Day in 1974, Hank tied Babe Ruth's homerun record with long ball number 714. Who surrendered the homerun to Aaron?

2. A first-inning single at Crosley Field was Hank's base hit #3000, making him the first player in baseball history to amass 3000 hits AND 500 HR's. Also, a first inning homer off the very same pitcher two seasons later at Riverfront Stadium gave Hank 660 career homers, the most by any player in history with a single franchise(Ruth had 659 with the Yankees). Who surrendered both Hank's 3000th hit and 660th HR ?

Jack Billingham on number 1. I will go with Jim Merritt on number 2.

Good guess on Merritt but it wasn't him.

I’d DFA Strickland 10 minutes after this game is over just for spite.

This pen is pathetic in every way, shape, and form.

I wouldn't stop with Strickland. I'd clean house.

They should just bring up some guys that never had any chance of sniffing the majors and give them the thrill. Who cares if they get rocked? It would be more entertaining and inspiring if someone actually does something good.

Saw where Moose was ticked off yesterday that he got hit for vs. A LHP.
Now again today. Moose can't even hit RHP and he is upset he gets hit for.
Not one other team in MLB would he even be playing for at all.

***SCOREBOARD STUMPER***

1. Jack Billingham

2. Wayne Simpson

I think it still matters to starters especially when they pitch like Castillo and Morton did today. Everyone knows it’s not the stat to judge pitchers for the last 10-15 years. But starters still value it. It’s the vulture wins that annoy people like today. Or relievers being awarded it by being the pitcher of record when the winning run is scored in whatever inning it is.

Some sloppy play by the Braves D there. The pick off of Pham was dropped and Votto's foul pop dropped in between 3 guys. They make those two plays and we having a different discussion most likely. But you take em' any way you can get em'. Great work by Castillo and good job Almora. Go Reds!

I don’t get why Bell wouldn’t bring in a LH reliever to face Harris with two out in the 9th. Who then promptly homered off Strickland. By the same token, why didn’t Snitker replace Minter after he loaded the bases, and the Reds had a whole string of RH hitters coming up?

Detwiler and Sanmartin pitched the day prior, Detwiler twice in the previous 3 games, he probably wasn't available. But Harris will eventually not get the "He's a rookie" take if he continues to kill RH's
