Will he go more than 5 innings? Just coming back so doubtful. Unless he has a low pitchcount.

A few more tidbits about July 4 and Reds' history that I didn't have time to share yesterday.

On July 4, 1979 , Juanquin Andujar and Ray Knight ignited some bench clearing fireworks at Riverfront . Andujar took exception to something Morgan said before the game and threw at Joe when he came to the plate. John McNamara told Reds' pitcher Bill Bonham to let Andujar know that "we're not gonna take that sh!t" and so Bonham buzzed one by Andujar's head. Knight and Andujar hurled insults across the diamond and it was on. Ray, who was never one to shy away from a good fight, got in a couple of blows to the face of Cesar Cedeno of the Astros. Ray and Joaquin were ejected from the game, which was won by Houston, who extended their lead in the NL West to 10 games.

On July 4, 1980 Nolan Ryan struck out the 3000th batter of his career at Riverfront Stadium. The batter that Ryan struck out for his 3000th K was the same player who was the victim of Bob Gibson's 3000th strikeout . Do you know who it was?

Did you know.... on July 4, 1989 Tom Browning came within 3 outs of becoming the first pitcher in the history of baseball to throw TWO perfect games. Anyone remember what Astros' batter ruined Browning quest for perfecto X 2 ?

Phillies on Browning not Astros. But this guy was a former Astro. Browning flirted with a no hitter another time. Gwynn broke it up. Browning said he had walked Gwynn twice and he wasn't going to walk him again. Had he walked him and gotten the no hitter. He said it wouldn't have felt like one with all the walks to Gwynn.

Cesar was my first favorite player as a kid. Bench was 2nd. Cesar I guess being 7 and left handed had a lo to do with it.
So I know pretty much every thing about Cesar. 1978 4th game of the season. I got to see Cesar hit the only HR he had with me being at the game. Mark Lemongello served it up. In 1977 I bought a broken bat of Cesar's at the 580 gift shop. In 2016 at a baseball card show at Moeller high school. I got him to sign the bat. We talked close to 10 minutes. Till the next person payed to get his autograph. His English is way better now than it was when Joe would interview him on the star of the game. My name would be Cesar Geronimo on here. But another Cesar fan got it first.

Max Scherzer's 0.33 ERA in 27.0 IP at GABP is the lowest by any pitcher with at least 15 IP at the park.

The only run that Scherzer has ever given up at GABP was off of back-to-back doubles from Joey Votto and Derek Dietrich on June 2, 2019. The Reds only had one other hit that day, an 8th inning Tucker Barnhart double.

6 of the 13 hits he's allowed at GABP have been doubles.

There was another pitcher, a Yankee pitcher, that got his 3000th K on a 4th of July. He struck out Larry Parrish for #3000 on July 4, 1984 . Who was he? _____________

Back to Hank Aaron. Hank wanted to set the HR record in Atlanta. He felt he owed it to his hometown fans. He wanted to play the second game of the series in Cincy and sit out the other two . Bowie Kuhn said no. Kuhn said Hank had to play in at least two of the three games. Hank's first AB on Opening Day against Billingham resulted in #714. It was Aaron's only hit of the series. He got #715 off Dodger lefty Al Downing in the Braves' home opener. Remember the two kids who ran alongside Hank as he trotted towards third base? Those kids, Brett Gaston and Cliff Courtenay, are now 65 years old(if they're still living).

Anyone remember who caught Hank's #715 HR ball? ____________

Anyone know who gave up Hank's very last HR- #755 ??? ___________ Hint: He pitched three scoreless innings against the Reds in one of the best WS games ever played. Were it not for a great play, he could have been the losing pitcher in that game.

This Reds team could be really good next season, with a little offense. The starters are set.

Need a lot of offence. 8 new relievers. Well 7 . I'll count Diaz as good even though he isn't proven.
Need at least two good veteran starting pitchers to go with Greene. Lodolo. Ashcraft. Dunn.
Then hope they all stay healthy cause they will not have depth. I'm not count on 4 good starts from Overton. 2 against Pittsburgh. But they will . They put SanMartin in the rotation to start the year based off two good games last year against Pittsburgh.
I wish I was as optimistic as you are. But this team needs 15 or more new better players on the 26 man roster to compete

Max Scherzer, coming into this game, allowed this year only a .478 OPS to right hand hitters.

-Nick Lodolo is No. 29

-Elly De La Cruz rises all the way to No. 51

-Matt McLain makes a significant jump to No. 61

-Brandon Williamson is No. 77

I think this is correct, though neither of them appeared in the 1986 WS with the Mets. I’m more confident in Myers.

Yeah I think Myers was probably just a September callup. 90% sure he wasn't on the postseason roster.
Foster never left the dugout in the Reds-Mets Eric Davis- Ray Knight fight game.
He was released shortly after that.

*** TONIGHT'S SCOREBOARD STUMPER***

Can you name the two players who received World Series rings with BOTH the Cincinnati Reds and the New York Mets ?

18507 18508

18509 18510

Foster was released by the Mets in September of '86 but was still awarded a portion of a WS share as well a a ring.

Myers pitched in the regular season was not on the postseason roster in '86 but was awarded his WS ring several years later(after his Reds' ring, in fact).

Did you know about Foster supposedly not leaving the dugout in the Davis'Knight fight?
Shortly after he was released. He was already losing Playing time by that point in the season. That may have been the final straw him staying in the dugout. If true.
Foster would have been a possible Hall of famer. But his first full season starting wasn't till 76. He cam up 71 maybe? So he wasn't a spring chicken by 76.

Yep. I've heard that. Also wonder if the Davis-Knight tension was still there when Ray became manager of the Reds.

Headed to bottom eight, two Reds at bats resulted in hits; one resulted in a HBP; eight resulted in batted ball outs; thirteen resulted in strikeouts.

Time to improve upon these numbers, Reds.

A couple more trivia bits before I get to the Scoreboard Stumper.

Just a piss poor at bat for India after the great sacrifice. You have to be patient and find a pitch you can get into the outfield in that situation.

Poor strategy by the Reds there.

Votto didn’t get a shot with men on base against the RHP.

Either you let Joey PH for the catcher. Or, if you get the bunt down, then Joey hits for the struggling India.

Instead they bunted to set up a struggling India. Just not good strategy.

Is it also a coincidence that the 4 worst pitching staffs ever played in parks like the Baker Bowl. It had a 299 foot Right field line. Colorado of course where Rod Carew would hit 400. Billy Hamilton would hit 20 triples. It’s not just a Homer stadium. It’s expansive and easy to just have hits fall in. And of course. The house that Whiffey built. Just kidding. I meant Griffey.
