Joey Votto is sitting today because of a little tightness in his back, David Bell said.

I thought there might be something going on cause he sat last night as well. Very rare for him to miss 2 straight games unless he is injured.
This answers why he didn't pinch hit last night as well.

I tend to think you are probably right. I think we may still see some good play for stretches but probably not what we've been used to for all these many years. Age catches up to everyone. Joey's beeen terrific for a long time. He gets a pass from me if he bats .130 the rest of his career. He's given the organization a lot.

I may be wrong about this but I always thought a player like Votto would be one of the few that could take advantage of the shift and serve the ball to the left side for base hits. I know hitting is hard etc.

I agree, Kc. I want to lock him up for two years. I think it's worth the shot. I like our potential reward of what he gives us the next two seasons more than what we might pull in via trade for him.

Not sure it’s deniable that hitters use different strategies at the plate. Some sell out for power. Some always pull the ball. Some use the whole field. Some shorten up.

Drury seems to have a balanced approach, makes contact but still generates enough power.

I believe all that's needed is forcing batters to stay in the box. Watched a game this weekend where a batter would swing, momentum taking him to other batters box, then he slowly walked around the umpire. Took him almost 30 seconds just to get back in the box.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the pitch clock applies to the batter too. I was at a Louisville game a few weeks ago where Barrero got called out with the count 2-2 because he was fiddling around too long outside the box.

Don't get how you allow a double down the line there.

That's what I said. Solano should have been playing a step off the line. Tough to turn two there but should have been an out and on no planet should have been a double.

I thought it was fair. Doesn't matter where it lands, just has to cross the bag fair.

Seeing Moose at a .460 OpS over his last 30. Wow.
He should be ashamed to cash the checks, IMO. I felt the same way about Akiyama.

And that still doesn't mean I feel for the owners.

Fair/foul is reviewable only if the ball first lands at or beyond the standing position of the first or third base umpire.

Anything that first lands in front of the ump is not reviewable.

“I thought it was foul,” Lindor said of Marte’s chopper past Donovan Solano’s outstretched glove. “I asked the third-base umpire and he said it was right over the bag. The other team didn’t complain, so they must have gotten it right. Knowing their manager, [David Bell], he would have gotten tossed if he thought it was foul.”

The replay showed it not going over the bag, but Larkin says it did go over bag right away as replay shows differently. Kind of like certain politicians

I just saw the replay of the ball down the 3rd base line. It looked foul to me but it was really hard to tell from the video I saw. I can't see why they could not review this type of play. All New York would have to do is blow up the image and track to the bag and just beyond. Also most of the time these are called foul when they hit in foul territory like this one did. This is a terrible umpire crew so its no surprise they botched up this call.
