Robert Dugger is here. Jeff Hoffman will start game 2 but Dugger could be the bulk guy and pitch multiple innings, which he did in his last appearance with the Reds.

Still no Votto. Team playing short handed again. If he can't go call up Moran and IL him. Or at least IL Cessa and call up a pitcher, Moran or someone.
I know they will stay buried in the standings regardless. But at least field a 26 man healthy roster.

Reds transactions.

•Select the contract of P Robert Dugger from AAA Louisville
•Transfer P Vladimir Gutierrez to the 60-day IL
•Place P Luis Cessa on the 15-day IL
•Place C Aramis Garcia on the 10-day IL
•Recall C Mark Kolozsvary from AAA Louisville

I played the Hal King game Double header today in my 1973 replay on my cards n dice game. Hal didn't homer. I did pinch hit him in game 1 though. And he did hit a pinch hit HR 2 games prior for me against Houston.
In my replay lost game one 2-1 Sutton over Norman.
I won game 2 though with a season high 14 runs. Doug Rau was hammered and Grimsley the witch doctor pitched a complete game. 7 and a half games back in my replay. Giants 6 back in 2nd.

That's a great guess. I'll give a hint.

Bob Gibson said the following of him : " “I always threw at him. He swung way too hard against me, flinging himself at the ball and spinning around in the batter’s box like he was on the playground or something. I had to demonstrate to him that I was no playground pitcher. To that end, I made a point of throwing at least one fastball in his direction nearly every time he came to the plate.

“It was virtually impossible to ignore him because he was always talking. Usually, it was to complain about how much his back or his shoulder or some other thing was hurting him. Then he would step in the batter’s box and swing so hard that the flagsticks on top of the stadium would bend.”

Btw, in a game about 55 years ago, Clemente hit a rocket off the leg of Gibson and fractured Bob's leg . Gibby said he looked down at his shin and saw a dent in his skin in the shape of a baseball. Yes, Bob, Clemente did swing hard... damn hard!!!

Ď82 team had fairly decent pitching but could not score if their life depended on it. It was like watching paint dry.

Yes 82 the only good part was watching Mario Soto pitch the rest of that team was awful

If the 1982 team had this level of injuries, it would have been worse than this team. It’s hard to judge the talent on this team because so many have been off the field for most of the season.

Kind of like Joey now. I also enjoyed Bench's ABs. And Concepcion was still solid.
Didn't like Hurdle at all. Even less years later. What a joke of a replacement for Foster he was. He didn't last past May if I remember right?

For all we know they did. Huge contracts hadn't taken over yet. Players played hurt then for fear of losing their roster spot. I imagine they hid it from media.

I wanna say it was a tie between Oester and Driessen or Cedeno. I'm 90% sure though it wasn't 60. High 50s. Around 57 .

They get injured more now even with more sophisticated training and equipment. Pitchers are monitored pitch less yet still get hurt. Always the extreme. Either pitch too much or pitch too little. It’s not working. No matter what their pie charts say.

The rotation ERA wise wasn't bad except for Seaver he was horrible.
The bullpen ERA was far better than I remembered.

Thereís no one in the Reds bullpen really worth much in dollars to be invested that heavily except Diaz though. Not that they shouldnít care about their health. You just canít tell me that they are this fragile.
The bullpens management is the worst about all this. Iím a broken record here. This many people in the bullpen who canít pitch more than 2 days in a row. If even that. And you still keep getting hurt or not feeling your best. Covid and lockout didnít help. But if this continues next year then what?

How about telling pitchers Not to throw max out hard on every pitch and dial it down. Maybe throwing too hard is not the best thing for everyone.

No doubt Max effort is a huge problem. These guys are coached to pitch that way nowadays. Sad thing is a guy who throws 90 that can throw multiple pitches for quality strikes. Won't even get drafted now. And next to impossible for them to even get a try out or be signed as a undrafted free agent.

Back in the '80's I was in town for a very early season weekend series. Woke up at the hotel in Florence on Saturday morning( it was cold and snowing outside in early April). Saw a long-haired dude wearing a skirt and walking a cat on a leash in the snow. I seriously thought I was trippin' . Later found out the Deadheads were in the area for a concert.

After Robert Dugger allowed two base runners in the seventh, Reiver Sanmartin entered the game in a really big moment to strand them on base.

Sanmartin is moving up the bullpen depth chart and has earned more trust for a bigger role.

@nightengalejr

Reds bullpen has taken a ton of lumps this year, but great performance in their bullpen game: 9 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 12 K.

Reiver Sanmartin didn't allow a batter to reach base over the final 2 2/3 innings in the 5-1 win.
