https://local12.com/sports/reds/mason-ohio-comets-native-zeuch-make-cincinnati-reds-debut-start-against-mets-starting-pitcher-toronto-blue-jays-cardinals-mlb-major-league-baseball-promotion

A Mason native will get to start for his hometown Cincinnati Reds.

T.J. Zeuch was promoted from the taxi squad to make his season debut Wednesday afternoon against the New York Mets.

"It's going to be incredible," he told Bally Sports and other assembled media with regard to putting on the Cincinnati uniform. "I grew up going to Reds games watching Adam Dunn, Sean Casey, Ken Griffey, all those guys... even Joey (Votto)."

The 27-year-old was a former first-round pick of Toronto in 2016. From 2019-2021 he threw 49 innings, in both starts and relief work, for the Blue Jays but was 2-4 with a 4.59 ERA.

Zeuch was eventually traded to the St. Louis Cardinals but never made it back to the big leagues and was released during the 2022 season.

The Reds signed the 6-foot-7 right-hander to a minor league deal in June. He was 0-1 with a 3.63 ERA in five starts for Triple-A Louisville.

I think the moves from a week ago, along with the loss of Stephenson, are starting to mentally take its toll on the rest of the team. This group has played hard for most of the season. After the incredibly bad start , they recovered to play .500 ball for about half of a season. Looks like they are mentally spent. I hope not but I'm afraid Keefe's prediction from a few weeks ago could prove to be prophetic. These last two months may be brutal.

There is such a discrepancy between the haves and have nots in MLB this year. I think they feel totally overmatched when they're playing the Dodgers or the Mets, especially with "these" starting pitchers. I do think they should aggressively bring up minor leaguers but that's probably not practical 'till Sept

I always liked him, and they absolutely need LHHs with Votto and Moose falling off the cliff.

I would have tried to resign him --- and extend Drury --- but I guess neither of those things were ever going to happen.

I wouldn't be surprised if this isn't broken again next year. All Reds players seem to be made of glass. Couple that with switching out minor leaguer for minor leaguer once or twice a week. And you end up with this.

I wouldn't be surprised if this isn't broken again next year. All Reds players seem to be made of glass. Couple that with switching out minor leaguer for minor leaguer once or twice a week. And you end up with this.

In 1970 (the year I was born), the Reds used only 33 players for the entire season, and eight of them played in fewer than 10 games.

In 1972, they used 31 players, and five played in fewer than 10 games.

In 1975, they used 29 players, and two played in fewer than 10 games.

In 1976, they used 29 players, and two played in fewer than 10 games.

The Reds used 40+ players in 1909, 1910, 1912, 1913, 1914, 1934, 1937, 1955, 1958, 1960, 1984, and every season since 1988 -- with the exception of 1994, 1999, 2012, and 2013.

1993 was the first season in which they used 50+ players (51 that season).
