Seems to me like they are both trying so hard and know they need to be able to handle the breaking ball to make it in the bigs. Both are concentrating on hitting breaking balls and are not able to handle the velo of fast balls. Like Brantley says, a hitter must be set to time the pitcher's hardest pitch and then learn to adjust to the other stuff, and if they can't they don't belong in this league!

Votto has missed some balls that just get there around ankle high and I think he’s more comfortable catching the ball shoulder high, hence the crazy weird stretch he does. I feel his footwork causes to miss the low ones that aren’t even in the dirt.
