There are certain players whose role on the roster tells you all you need to know. When the FO was talking up Gutierrez as a rotation guy this past off-season I knew they weren’t serious about contending. I didn’t know the half of it.

If this off-season they are talking up Dunn as a rotation guy, then you know we’re in the abyss and there is no plan to climb into mediocrity.

Votto with a smarter play than I would have expected on the DP -- didn't immediately throw to 2nd like many would erroneously do and ran toward the hung up runner and held the ball until the runner moved toward 2nd base again. Most common mistake at all levels is to want to get the ball out of your hands ASAP. Got Dunn out of the 1st inning with 21 pitches.

In fact, he probably could do what Naquin did as a Red. I wish for better from a starter, but would be happy with that from a 4th OF.

I watched Dunn pitch several times when he was at Boston College and I really liked him. Saw him start once for the Mariners and his stuff looked live. But he’s missing something right now. Have to think he’s still not fully recovered. If that’s the case, probably best to shut him down and hope he can grab the #4/#5 spot next season.

His HR rate is a touch high, 1.27, but he’s throwing 54% ground balls.

What is clear after today:

Diaz is the bomb- a guy you build around. A MUST have moving forward.
Hunter Strickland's "intangiballs" off the field can't possibly offset his awfulness on the field
Barrero and Aquino can make contact with a fastball. Why they EVER see one is stupifying.
