Trenton Irwin better be WR4 when Ja'marr comes back. I don't need to see Mike Thomas again.
Edit - seems as though the Bengals agree. They waived Mike Thomas (I assume this means he goes to the practice squad).

Perine can catch! All I had ever seen him do before this season is run up the middle for short gains. But he has great blocker awareness in the open field, and I'd say he even has a burst.
Irwin looked like a solid #4 our there.
New punter punted and did fine holding for Scooter too. I'd say that's it for Huber.
We are really lucky to have Burrow at QB.
The Bengals weaknesses seem to change from work to week. Now I'd say their big weakness is the secondary. KC and Buffalo games might be rough.
Wondering if Mixon will miss the next game. Williams looked pretty good running it too.
Love beating the Steelers. Two dirty hits from them, naturally.

Did you not watch the playoff game vs KC same exact play. Plus he is probably our best blocker as far as picking the blitz up. Perine gets banged on a lot here but he’s incredibly solid and versatile for this team.

Yeah the Perine TD vs. Kansas City is an all-timer as a Bengals fan. Really low point and he gave such a spark.

From Dan Orlovsky:
No one is even close
Joe Burrow when his O-line wins
(last 2 seasons):
72% Comp pct (1st in NFL)
9.4 Yds/att (1st)
41% 1st downs/att (1st)
114.4 Pass rtg (1st)
Eye popping stat there...

Even without Chase I'm still not sure how or why the team fared so badly against the Browns. Coming from a Browns fan here. Many fans have had it with Stefanski and Woods.
Was nice to see the team beat Pittsburgh though. These games coming ahead against the Titans, Chiefs, and Bills have appeal to me even as someone neutral to the Bengals. But aah it be cool to see them do well. Good luck

It's about time!!!
From NBC Sports w/ NBC Sports' comments:
Bengals waived WR Mike Thomas. Thomas was tasked with filling in for Ja'Marr Chase after Chase exited in Week 7 with a hip injury. Thomas saw an increased role in Week 8, with Chase sidelined, but failed to haul in his only target. The veteran receiver hasn't caught a pass since Week 5 and has just two receptions for 38 yards on the season.

I honestly think Jonah's kneecap dislocation could have been a bigger part of his issues than any technical flaws. Can't imagine what it must be like to try to plant your body on a gimpy knee like that with 300-pound linemen driving into you. Hopefully he's feeling better and this is a sign of things to come.

Yea, I’m with you. I haven’t broken a knee but about 8 months ago I tore a piece of cartilage in my knee. I was advised to not have surgery right away since I was able to do most things again after staying off my feet for a few days after the injury. But even then, there are still times where I pivot the wrong way or put a little too much bounce into my step and it’ll light me up like a Christmas tree.
I’m not sure I’d be up for a flag football game, much less an NFL game. The injuries these guys play through are just incredible feats of human strength.

In the NFL, it only matters if you can win post-Thanksgiving, and that goes for everyone, regardless of their record.
Marvin Lewis would always melt post-Thanksgiving. You could set your watch to it.

Getting healthy matters, but as you know, there was more than health going on there. If it was only two issues they worked on over the bye, the results were clear that some major improvement occurred. There's hope now that he can get to where he was last season. Every week the opponents get tougher and the games are more meaningful. So, he's got to take another step forward. He can't play at the same level he did against Pittsburg. He's got to do better than that against the Titans, just to get another overall rating in the high-70's.

News of the Titans...
Vrabel: Todd Downing Remains Titans OC
November 22nd, 2022 at 4:50pm CST by Sam Robinson
Todd Downing‘s Friday DUI arrest is the subject of an internal Titans investigation and an NFL probe. The Tennessee offensive coordinator could face league discipline, and depending on the results of the league’s inquiry, the Titans could as well.
For now, however, Downing remains in place as Tennessee’s OC. Though, Mike Vrabel was quick to caution that status depends on the findings of these investigations. A Downing suspension under the league’s personal conduct policy will likely commence at some point, but nothing will presumably come to pass until his criminal case concludes. “We’ll continue forward with how things work with Todd as our offensive coordinator, but those things can change,” Vrabel said, via The Nashville Tennesseean’s Nick Suss. “I want to make sure everybody understands that. At any point in time we can hear from the league. The legal process, those things can obviously change. I want to make sure everybody understands that.”
After their Thursday win at Lambeau Field, the Titans landed back in Tennessee at 2:11am CT. Downing was pulled over for DUI at 3:49am. This timeline has led to obvious speculation the 42-year-old assistant was drinking on the team plane. In light of the revelation that Britt Reid was drinking at the Chiefs’ facility before his car accident that led to a 4-year-old girl suffering severe injuries, the NFL figures to take this matter seriously. Players and coaches are prohibited from consuming alcohol in team settings. The NFL, however, has not disciplined the Chiefs in connection with that 2021 incident. It will be interesting to see how the league’s Titans investigation unfolds. The Titans brought Downing back to the OC level last year, promoting him from tight ends coach to replace Arthur Smith, who had also climbed from tight ends coach to play-caller to Falcons head coach. Downing did not fare well as the Raiders’ OC in 2017, a one-and-done stint in that role, but has resurfaced calling plays for the AFC South-leading Titans. Downing has been an NFL assistant since 2005, but this arrest could certainly affect his career trajectory.

I tore my meniscus about 10 years ago. Never had surgery, but did do PT for about 6 weeks. I've had zero pain with it, although I can't do any activity that requires me to twist or turn quickly on that leg. That's the only time I feel it is moving like that.

Pretty much the Bengals have to win out going forward, is that right? A girl I work with at work actually said last week that she thought that because the Bengals went to the Super Bowl last year, that they are automatically in the playoffs this year :)

If they want to win the division they need to win out...
Wild Card you probably think no more than 1 or 2 losses rest of the way.

Wild Card you probably think no more than 1 or 2 losses rest of the way.10-7 should get them in as a wild card, so 4-3 or better. If you want to be positive, shoot for 11-6. FWIW, 538 has them projected at a 59% chance to make the playoffs but only 12% to win the division, which I'm sure is due to the rest of the Bengals' schedule and the Ravens' being very weak. On top of that, Baltimore is currently a game ahead plus very likely to win a tiebreaker based on the Bengals' 1-3 division record.

If the goal is to make the playoffs, they can still lose quote a few. Their competition for that last playoff spot is NE, the Chargers, Jets and Indy. If they come in 2nd with that group, they're in.
Winning the division is a very low probability so I'm not even thinking about that

I didn't realize how soft Baltimore's schedule was going forward. Looking at the schedule I do think they pull away..... but they haven't looked all that impressive as of late.
If you are the Bengals, you want to make the playoffs first and foremost, but avoiding having to play both KC and Buffalo is key. Although they have to run that gauntlet in the regular season!

10 wins will most likely get in. Chargers look like they have the easiest schedule going forward and they’re getting some receivers back. The Colts are toast as they’d almost have to win out and that’s not happening. It’s looking like the Bengals, Jets or Pats for the last spot (not necessarily the 7th seed). Jets and Pats have terrible offenses and pretty tough schedules. Both of them could struggle to win more than 9. It wouldn’t surprise me if the 7th seed only has 9 wins and gets in via tiebreakers.

Agreed. I’m thinking the Bengals will have to beat Baltimore, the last game, to get in the playoffs. I’m kind of thinking it’d be better if Baltimore has already wrapped up the Division and will be resting starters that game.

The Bengals have figured out how to dice up cover 2 and 2 safety deep looks. I think teams will shift to defending us with more single high looks.
With Chase back, this is now a Super Bowl caliber team. It probably already was.

I know this was the original projection, Chase back for the Titans' game, but it has me worried that he could use a little more time off, especially with all of the players we got back last week and how well we looked on both sides of the ball last week.

Why are the keeping 2 punters when you need depth at OL and probably CB. I just wish they could have picked up another CB or even a DT.
Hope Chase is healed up enough that it doesn’t become a chronic issue this year or in the future.

I was a bit shocked they didn't grab a corner...but at midseason who is going to come off the street and give you legit snaps. I think that is why they decided to go with Britt. The punter is procedural its Chrisman's job to lose...he was on the practice squad so they could call him up for 2 weeks before making it permanent.

That’s not what the orthopedists I know have said.
Also, he is still “limited” in practice. Anyone thinking he’s fully healed doesn’t know anything about hip injuries.

He was still on crutches less than 7 days ago.

He was still on crutches less than 7 days ago. That's because he was almost assuredly told to be on crutches (non weight bearing) until the break fully healed. I have no idea whether they're rushing him back or not, though I'd like to think they wouldn't with such a key long-term player, but the fact that he was limited in practice Wednesday and Thursday and on crutches last week really doesn't tell us much in terms of whether he's ready to play or not. Players recovering from injury are almost always limited when returning to practice (meaning they didn't get their full reps as they're eased back in), and I've zero doubt that was the plan to ease him back in to see how he feels after practicing. Some players recovering from injury don't even practice at all the week before playing in a game, so the limited designation alone doesn't mean a whole lot. The fact he was on crutches last week doesn't tell us whether he was or wasn't still in any sort of pain or if they're rushing him back; it just means they wanted him staying off the hip until they were satisfied it was healed. Keep in mind, the original timeline (estimate) for this injury was four to six weeks, and Sunday will be five weeks since he last played.

No ortho doc would allow him to be weight bearing and practicing if the fracture wasn't healed. My understanding was it was a hairline fracture which would allow it to heal quicker. As Boss stated above these fractures have a 4-6 week window.
The labrum tear is trickier and will not heal on it really depends on Chase and if he is experiencing pain from movement. All reports are he is pain free.
Burrow said he felt good running at practice and expects him to play. The Bengals know they have a significant investment in him I doubt he will play unless he feels 100%.

Patsies losing at Minn helped quite a bit for the WC Chase. NE at 6-5 has a pretty tough schedule with the Bills 2x, Miami and Bengals
Baltimore benefitting from the last place schedule at 8-9 last year. The next two weeks they get Jax and Denver while the Bengals get Tennessee and KC. The Cowboys/Giants (both lost) was the other schedule difference.

Mixon wouldn't have had that Offensive Penalty on the 1st Drive that took us out of FG position and potentially a TD drive, and instead led to a punt.
Mixon will fumble a lot less than Perine will. Perine will fumble two times this year before Mixon has his next fumble.

Today was my favorite game in a long time. There’s so much to be said for guys stepping up, and the physicality they played with was awesome to see.
-OL is gelling and Burrow is getting the ball out quick. Awesome combo
-I love Cam Taylor-Britt. He’s got that dog in him.
-Perine is a great back in the shotgun looks they like. He and Mixon are 1A and 1B as far as I’m concerned. And Williams provided two awesome sparks. His second run was ANGRY.
-DJ Reader makes the defense elite. They know who they are and they play so disciplined. Bravo.
-Chase getting hurt could be a blessing in disguise. The offense has adjusted and guys have stepped up. They’ve become much more physical. Now work him back in and let’s see them really take a jump to elite.
-McPherson is a great weapon.
-I’ve seen enough from Chrisman, let’s thank Huber and fill his roster spot with depth somewhere.
-Tee Higgins is a WR1. That’s not up for debate.
-Irwin made the play of the game imo. What a catch. Great story he is.

Yep, there are a ton of positives right now. While they didn’t win by many points today, they outplayed the Titans on both sides of the ball. The Bengals defense played great outside of 2 big plays. And, their offense was pretty well rounded. Take away some of the stupid penalties and they would’ve won handily over a solid team playing at home.

Absolutely. And they'll need Chase back for what will probably be track meet against KC. But it's cool to see them win in a variety of ways. Titans fans called the Bengals a finesse team. If that wasn't shown to be folly last year, it certainly was yesterday.
Hard not to see what they loved about CTB. A willing tackler to say the least. He has a ton of room to grow in coverage and I worry that this is the week that he and Apple get exposed a little bit. But I would also guess this is the week we see Dax Hill a lot for 3-safety looks. The fact that the secondary is made up of good tacklers should allow them to play a lot of dime without getting totally gashed against the run. Pratt is playing really well but he may be on the sidelines more than usual against the Chiefs.
KoryMac5
11-28-2022, 09:58 AM
According to ESPN radio heads...
Lou made it a point to show his defense how they stopped Henry last season in the playoffs. His point you need willing tacklers which isn't easy as Henry is huge. He made it a point that the secondary had to get involved like last year to bring him down. Make Tannehill beat you...
great strategy and excellent coaching

They absolutely did. I noticed it right when it happened and couldn’t believe it. I’ve watched loads of football and had never seen anyone do that before. My wife didn’t get why I was so upset so I explained to her that kneel downs are a formality and that should never occur. Such a dirty thing to do. It’s disappointing to see that out of a team coached by Vrabel.
I didn’t see this for myself, but a friend of mine on Facebook swears that on multiple occasions Burrow got up in the Titans face because they tried to wrench his knee after the play was already over and he was down. Haven’t seen any video but the guy who said it isn’t the type to make stuff up.

Think about Reader, Hill, Hendrickson, Hubbard, Tupoa, Ossai, Sample and Carter, and that's a formidable front-four rotation. I'd have to say that was Taylor-Britt's coming out party. There was nothing dirty there. I read something earlier in the year from a coach (it may have been Vrabel, I don't remember) that he does this every time to try and put pressure on the o-line and force a bad snap. They know it's a super low percentage chance, but why not take a shot at it. You only have to go back to Vikings/Bills a couple weeks ago to see that the snap isn't 100% automatic.

The play before on the FG attempt. TEN got called for hitting a Defenseless player, thus the 1st down and the game.

Win against Titans was a huge one. Chase isn't healthy, Mixon is out, Burrow is wearing down from the sacks, the O-line IMO isn't as improved as we all hoped. And, yet, Bengals still went in there and won! Isn't there a cornerback that's also out for the Bengals? Get that guy and Mixon back, hopefully Chase heals that hip up, and we're looking good.

It was a huge win and one of their most impressive over the past 2 years. Chase and Mixon will probably be back this week against the Chiefs. The O-Line stunk for a year and a half, but they have improved recently and this past Sunday, they played a great game. I’m not completely convinced the OL is as good as they looked Sunday, but if it is, watch out!
Also, you’re referring to the Awuzie, the CB. Unfortunately, he tore his ACL and is out for the year.

my 2 tix for the Chiefs game...
Secondary market is nuts, but I would prefer they go to a Bengals fan, obviously. Tickets in my part of stadium (north end zone Section 124 row 21 seats 13 and 14) are being listed for $300 - $400+ each (face value $113 each) - but would be glad to make them available to someone on here for $200 each.
Anyone interested? Shoot me a PM if so. Posting on this board first before other outlets as I want this crew to have first chance...
(will hold this open here until noon est and then post elsewhere)

I think the diving at the knees was actually the play before and was penalized to end the game. In the vid that was posted by Sans on Twitter, it looks like they are still trying to hit Burrow even on a kneel-down play ... and did so three times in a row apparently.

I'm fine with them trying to hit Burrow. It's up to his O-line to protect him. That's what they're there for

Meh, we beat an average team on the road. If anyone would look at Tennessee's resume, they'd notice that their best win came vs the Redskins.

Amazing to me how Lou can find some snaps for CTB and yet Dax Hill is still sitting the bench. Lou seems like a pretty creative guy and yet Dax still isn't seeing the field that much in spite of being a somewhat versatile player?

One thing that I love so much is they can win a variety of ways. Shootouts, trench maulings, and hybrids of those style games
That's what makes us so dangerous. But we HAVE to stay healthy. Another injury in the secondary (or OL for that matter) would be killer for us.

It's not easy to win on the road in the NFL and Tenn is an above average with King Henry....I wouldn't exactly consider them meh.
Dax Hill wasn't playing last few weeks due to injury...Lou has stated he was working on him taking over the Tre Flowers role on 3rd downs right before he got hurt.

It wasn’t just that they beat the Titans, it was how. They completely stopped one of the best RBs in the game, they protected Burrow and ran pretty well against one of the better defenses in the league. They dominated the trenches on both sides of the ball which, to be honest, I don’t recall them doing that another time over the past few years.

From Hobson...
The Bengals had a fairly muted reaction to Chiefs safety Justin Reid's curious remarks on Wednesday in which he appeared to say he was going to shut down torrid Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins. But Reid apparently had his uniform jerseys and names mixed up and thought he was talking about tight end Tyler Higbee. That was a mistake, too, because Higbee plays for the Rams. So it sounded like Reid was making a show of not knowing that the Bengals tight end he planned to shut down is Hurst.
"Definitely the first guy who's going to attempt to cover me that said something about me or to me or to whoever he thought he was talking about," Hurst said before Thursday's practice. "I don't care really care … You can pick anybody in this locker room and I feel like I'm the last person you probably want to talk (crap) about because I have a long memory."
Nose tackle D.J. Reader remembered he was Reid's former teammate in Houston and fired off a tweet ("Gotta know your personnel better to be making promises") and wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase got a few in. But other than that it was more like strong safety Vonn Bell. "I've got bigger fish to fry. I got (No.) 15 coming town," Bell said of Mahomes.

Tannehill isn’t good, at all, but the Titans are going to win their division for the 3rd straight year. They’re not good enough to make a deep playoff run, but they’re not a pushover either.

I agree. They’re definitely not using Dax enough. The Bengals love to redshirt their first round picks for various reasons, but there’s no excuse with Dax. Even with Bates and Bell, they could easily get him on the field much more often. Hopefully, they’ll find a way to get him on the field more for the rest of the season.

Mixon as of this morning still has not been cleared...
Samjae is so good at pass protection it might not be that much of a negative if they rest Mixon 1 more week.
As far as Hill goes I think we see a heavier dose of him playing as Lou does like to drop 8 against KC.

Tennessee actually had better receivers to bail out RT last year too. They're a 1 dimensional team. Henry has struggled in many other games this year outside of ours. We definitely played him well but the Bills, Broncos, and and Packers played him tough too.
