Why do they like CES in the 9th hole?

1) I don't think it really matters in the spring and 2) I don't mind a young hitter who is playing with the regulars for one of the first times this spring hitting 9th. Takes some pressure off and also gives you some pop at the bottom of the order. Seems like the Reds could have hit the pitcher ninth last year and got similar production out of that spot in the order.

It'll be interesting to see those 4th and 5th SP candidates attack the younger Red hitters-- Steer, Barrero, Benson, and Encarnacion-Strand.

Honeywell, for example, needs to impress Padre brass, so he's likely not just working on stuff-- he's looking to get lots of outs.

At the risk of dividing small samples into even more meaningless sub-groups, that's what I'm focused on this week.

Not a great final line, but Weaver seemed to have a solid outing. You can clearly see the stuff and why he continues to get chances. Seems to be inconsistent hitting his spots though. Not sure if that's just an early spring training issue or why his career numbers dont seem to match his arm talent.

I was thinking the same thing this morning. It is refreshing, and will be nice to see these young guys perform and develop.

Agreed. I'm trying to not get overly excited on March 8th, but this looks like a legitimate big league lineup. I'm seeing a lot of quality at bats, even from the young guys. This has the feeling of team that has a hitting philosophy that guys are truly buying into.
