Some takeaways from the lineup

TJ Friedl moves up to the No. 2 spot. He had a great spring, and his speed/on-base ability can help set the table.

Jason Vosler makes the start at first. DH will be a rotation, but Jake Fraley gets the first start there.

Jason Vosler, 29, spent eight years in the minors before making his MLB debut. He bounced between five organizations before landing with the Reds.

He made the team as a minor league free agent, and his journey pays off with an Opening Day start.

They would almost have to move one of them. Barrero has already played some CF and Bell calls him "a natural out there" and he sure looked like a really good defensive CF when he played there a bit in 2021. With EDLC coming for SS, that would make the most sense to me. Of course, Barrero may not hit enough to be the regular. I could see Barrero ending up as a Chris Taylor. Plays a little CF and a little SS very acceptably or better and can play other spots in the IF and OF. Right now, he's getting an extended look offensively as the starting SS, but I have to think he's just keeping the spot warm. I hope he hits as well as Taylor.

I agree that Benson looks more like a RF long term if he hits enough to play. I just think he looks better in CF than what I've seen of Friedl. Neither one is a long-term option in CF even if they hit well IMO. I'd say Barrero and Siani are the long-term options to handle Cf defensively at his point. I could see them platooning later in the year when guys like Myers and Newman have been moved to other teams. Not sure they'll hit enough to be a starter out there, but I'm more optimistic about Barrero than I am Siani.

I've attended Opening Day games with the likes of Darnell McDonald and Tony Womack in the lineup with Joey Hamilton pitching. It's not a pennant-winning bunch, but I'm sure you could find much worse in Reds recent history. A 2021 ROY, a promising catching stud, three interesting prospects in the bottom third, a few solid vets, and a potential superstar on the mound.

I don't have an answer, but he sure looked that way in spring training. I dont know how hit ended up but for a while I know he didnt have a single walk all spring. The guy had an 18% BB rate in AAA last season. Since becoming a Red his plate approach has been absolutely shocking to me. Hoping this is a small sample size overreaction, but I do worry about him being able to an everyday player with him hacking like he has been.

One of them is that when you bring in a middle reliever, the goal is for him to not walk 3 guys, throw a wild pitch and let the other team essentially gift itself into the 6th inning.
