Yea, I get it's a season long tryout. I'm not getting too worked up about wins and losses.

But I just don't like the trend of position versatility for non-utility type players. Could be part of the reason why the Reds defense has stunk the last several years, I think there's something to be said for developing rapport and a rhythm with the defenders around you. It also doesn't help the young pitchers any and adds to their pitch counts.

Closer is above average I think...so 6 players out of 26 are players others teams would want...if 20 of your 26 would be left there if cut...you don't know WTF you are doing...Plus your manager is bottom 5 in MLB...You are doomed to 100+ losses.

Is the pirate payroll so much bigger than ours that is why they are 14-7 and we are 7-14? I don't think so. It is utter mismanagement by Bell and the ownership. We can't fire ownership but we can get rid of Bell...he has no idea what he is doing...IMO.

I think fans have different ways of expressing their frustrations with baseball AND with the current sad state of our beloved Reds. Some, like the Dean of RZ, remain sunny and optimistic ; others, like Bench, are much more gloomy and pessimistic. Still others may be like me, drifting ever further away from the game that I was once so passionate about. Yes, the Reds are a mess. But, even worse, baseball is a mess. I haven't watched an entire non-Reds game in many years, including post-season play. Unless some drastic[positive] changes occur in the next five to ten years, baseball is going to become less of an American past-time and more of an American afterthought. There was a time when I thought baseball was fantastic. That time is not now. As I mentioned just the other day, I have serious doubts that most of us older guys will ever see a championship Reds team again. Sadly, the best part of the Reds season these days is that it is only four and a half months until the Bengals' season.

Bell apologists always point out that Mr Excitement isn't the reason for this mess and that no one could win with the lack of talent on these rosters. And there is, of course, some merit to that thinking. However, even when the Reds were not grotesquely bad, Bell was, well... grotesquely bad. He always ranks somewhere in the neighborhood of 25th in most rankings of MLB managers. In my classes of 30 students, the student that ranks 25th is probably in line for getting a D, at best. Cincinnati has become accustomed to having to settle for D, at best , rosters and manager. I'm just glad the 70's were so much fun for Reds baseball, and baseball, period. At least I'll always have those memories.
