UCLA names DeShaun Foster head coach.
Didn't see that coming.

The NCAA Football Rules Committee meets at the end of February and could come out of that meeting with proposals to allow permissive use of both pieces of tech, meaning whoever wants to use them could use them. Based on the insight gathered by the committee so far, the experimental use of helmet and tablet tech during the 2023-24 season’s non-CFP bowl games was a rousing success.
And there you go - we are close to helmet radio. Spare me all the “but they need FCC licenses” or “it’s too expensive” or whatever else was thrown in my face last year when I said it was doable.

ESPN gets the entire playoff for 6 years. Little over $1.3B a year.
Little surprised, thought it would get spread around. But espn has their streaming platform and that combo app coming, so I can see why they went for it.

BS on ESPN getting all the games.

They can sublicense the games out.
I am not really worried about this. Sure ESPN has a big contract with the SEC, but if they have any say so, they are going to want the most entertaining games, regardless of conference.
I don't see ESPN putting a game on a streaming service only like NBC did. But who knows.
Overall I don't really give a damn about who has the games. I want to see the games played at more friendly times. No more national championship played at 830 on a Monday. Play them on Sat nights, work with the NFL to get the best possible schedule.

Will be interesting to see if they do any licensing. They paid over $100M per game, so it gets tough to sell them, but maybe.
ESPN is trying to drive cord cutters to the two new platforms they are launching, but I don’t think they’ll do an exclusive steaming game. Not for the first few years at least.

I never understood why they didn’t do this to begin with. It’s an Occam’s razor solution over the current circus show on the sidelines. They certainly have enough money to implement.

I don't think everyone had the money to do it. Look at all the teams playing money games to fund their athletic department. Now I don't know what kind of investment it would be to make sure all FBS teams had it, but I think most of your non-p5 schools may not have been keen on implementing this.

I would prefer FOX, CBS, or NBC. Not an ESPN fan in the least.

Fowler and Herbstreit are the best announcing team IMO. One issue with doing the whole thing is now your getting into your 4th tier team doing a playoff game that spent most of the season doing Duke Syracuse or whatever.
CBS always looks good.
I like Gus and Klatt but Fox is pretty horrible with replays and some timing stuff in their production.

Mike Tirico did two.
It's already happening in the pros so I can't imagine college being a surprise.

Just not a Herbie fan.

Herbie is my favorite but I am starting to grow tired of Fowler.
Klatt and Gus are probably my favorite crew.
NBC has a Jac Collinsworth problem, he is terrible, but they are probably going to go with him. I mean he is terrible. But I do think Tirico is one of the best.
I wonder what CBS is going to look like now without Danielson shilling for the SEC every breath he gets. I do think him and Nessler call a good game.
I guess every network's first team is pretty good, once you get past that it drops off, which is to be expected.
One thing I think they will do, and I hope they do, is stick with college guys doing the playoff. I don't want to hear NFL guys doing the college game.

NBC's crew mostly stinks because it's a Notre Dame home broadcast, and if I'm watching a ND game it's usually not to root for the Irish. So the broadcast is typically pretty annoying.

Speaking of announcers, Verne Lundquist is retiring after the Masters.

I think Tirico and Blackledge are very good. The ND crew is terrible. Jac Collinsworth has been doing a log of Peacock basketball games, and he is terrible. I also don't get the love for Chris Simms, he is pretty blah as well.
I think Noah Eagle is pretty good, and could they entice Bob Costas to do more? I would be all in for that! But when NBC sends is second crew its not good.

I knew this was coming, but it still doesn’t make it any easier. Verne in the tower at 16 is one of my favorite things about the Masters. Irreplaceable.
I enjoy turning the Buckeye game down and listening to Paul Keels on the radio. ;)
