Bryson looking to make things VERY interesting this weekend throwing up a 65 on day 1.
And Tiger birdied hole #1. Haven't looked, but presumably Twitter is imploding.

Tiger is still at -1 through 11.
Scottie Scheffler stayed in contact with DeChambeau with a 6-under par 66.

Considering the forecast all week, today was much much better than expected and they’ll be back on time for the weekend. The round by Scottie today was fantastic. Bogey free 66 in high winds while being the heavy favorite was incredible. He’s playing lights out golf and it’d be very surprising if he doesn’t win….easily. But, I’m hoping for a great back 9 on Sunday.
Tiger is swinging well and his short game was really good today which is impressive considering how he’s barely played any tournament rounds recently. Hopefully, he’ll finish under par after the completion of his first round and he’ll need the adrenaline of being in contention to take some of the pain away from his leg.

Tiger finished his 1st round at +1, 8 shots behind the leader. He is even par through 4 holes on the second round. Early projected cut line is +2, so not much of a margin for error for Woods. Having to play, essentially, a round and a half today can't be in his favor.

Tiger looks like a lock to make the weekend. He stands a +1 through 12 holes. The cut line is up to +4 and climbing.

Is Scheffler winning inevitable?
Pretty much.
I don't care if he wins as I'm very impressed with his game and he's a good dude, but I just hope he doesn't run away with it. All I want is an awesome nerve-wracking back 9 that we haven't had since Tiger won in 2019. The last 9 holes has been pretty boring over the last 4 Masters.....DJ, Matsuyama, Scheffler, and Rahm.

Bryson is interesting and weird enough that I can't help but root for him. Designed his own irons? I love Scottie but he's boring. I'm on the Bryson bandwagon, but totally okay with a Homa win.
Also, Tiger looks phenomenal for a guy who never plays competitive golf. I know this is one of his courses, but the conditions have been absurd. And he's outplaying most tour pros. Maybe he should play more? The walk at Augusta is worse than just about every course on the planet.

Is Scheffler winning inevitable?
Only when he makes putts. His tee to green game is as good as Prime Tiger, but he's gonna have to make some putts on the back 9 Sunday. He'll be in the mix for sure.

Neil Shipley is the lone amateur to make it to the weekend and is tied for 30th place. He earned a Quantitative Finance degree in 3 years at James Madison with minors in math and economics, and is now a grad student at Ohio State, having already completed a master’s in Data Analytics. When will he get it together and start achieving something in life?

Scottie Scheffler will drag a 1-stroke lead into Sunday''s final round. He is at -7.
Collin Morikawa is 1 back. Max Homa is 2 strokes in arrears.
Bryson DeChambeau faltered late, landed at -3.
Nicolai Hojgaard had it rolling at -7 at one point today, but bogeyed 5 holes in succession on the back 9.
Tiger shot a 42 out, and a 40 in. Needless to say..........
Phil is at +6.

Bryson fell apart late, but the hole out on 18 was huge. I expect Homa to play well tomorrow, he was good today and just couldn't get anything to drop. Scottie is gonna Scottie, really reminds me of prime Tiger with his irons. Tomorrow should be fantastic.

I agree. And, the course conditions are an A++ right now. Just perfect. Only 3 Rounds in the 60’s the last 2 days, but I expect that number to double tomorrow with the typical Sunday pin locations. Hopefully, we’ll see a lot of fireworks.
Scottie showed why he’s so good today (not that he doesn’t every day) when he took a punch on 10&11 then came back with an eagle on 13 and finishing with another. He will be really hard to beat tomorrow.

And now, he’s playing with Tiger tomorrow. Wow. He’ll be more nervous than he’s ever been on the first tee tomorrow. What an experience for the young man.

Early shoddy shots by Scottie were no problem with his short game bailing him out. 3 putts through 3 holes and a 2 shot lead at -8. And, he just airmailed the 4th green.

Seems like a bit of an odd duck. But an odd duck who can say he outplayed Tiger on a Sunday at Augusta!

It turned into a ball striking tournament and Scottie really is that much better than anyone in the world. He's winning in ways Tiger used to win 20 years ago. By making insanely difficult setups look anything but. If this mallet fixed his putting we could very well be entering the era of the next golf great. He's never going to be beat tee to green.
Rahm was off this week but he's the closest thing right now. Brooks maybe, but he didn't have it this week. Bryson was fun, but he'll never match Scottie's on ball striking. It was nice to see Morikawa flash this week, he was close.

Scotty may be bland, but man is he good. Just a great ball striker. It almost feels like is is going to go on a Tigeresque tear through the game.
I can't find myself to root for Bryson. You have the whole LIV thing, but the guy just seems bristly.
I find it ironic who Rahn took the money from LIV now wants LIV to change. Also was shocked that some of the guys were cold to him.
The sad thing about the state of golf today is you have four tournaments in which the best in golf are playing, other than that, you don't get all the big names. For all the big names in LIV, there just is no juice to the tournaments. And really with the exception of Koepka, no LIV golfer has been close in the majors.
I do agree the Masters of yesteryear seemed to have more drama, I don't know if the pins have changed on 13 and 15 but it seems like there were more eagles in prior years. There was always a possibility you could make up strokes on 13-16, but it just doesn't seem that way anymore.

He may have, but it wasn't compelling. It wasn't like he was going shot for shot with Rahm (pre-LIV fame.)

Yeah, that's going to be his Achilles heel. He's not getting any younger and time is undefeated. Tiger may still be able to compete if he could ride a cart but he has said in the past that he wouldn't do that. It will be interesting when he turns 50 if he would join the Champion's Tour. They can ride carts there. But would it be beneath him? Jack played and so did Arnie.

Tiger's not just fighting Father Time. His accident means he's got all sorts of foreign bodies placed by an orthopedic surgeon inside of him. That comes at a cost. Just one foreign body (hip) cost Bo Jackson his sports careers. Not to mention Tiger's other surgeries before the car accident

US Open starts on Thursday. The prohibitive favorite has to be Scottie Scheffler, although Collin Morikawa has been on fire as well. In Scheffler's last 8 starts, he has won five, tied for second place twice and finished in a tie for 8th at Valhalla.

I’ve been fortunate to have played Pinehurst #2 twice and it’s the perfect course for Scottie (not that any course isn’t perfect for him right now). The greens are normal in size, but they play smaller due to their turtle back shaped areas…lots of false fronts/sides/backs. Additionally, you’ll have to be a great chipper from tight lies and be able to bump and run it up slopes. Scottie is the best in the world at that right now. And, he’s #2 in total driving, #1 in approach shots, #4 in total scrambling. All in all, combined with his unflappable demeanor and confidence, he’s the biggest favorite since Tiger was dominating 15+ years ago. I think I’d take Scottie over the field if I had to choose right now.

In the 15 holes since (really in the 12 holes since he teed off at #6), he's had 8 birdies and no bogies. A pretty unlikely 5 under for the round headed to 18 tee.

Mike Weir isn't going to make the cut (99% certain), but he's got a real shot to finish ahead of Brooks Koepka. Weir is 4 over with 4 to play. Koepka carded an 8 on 18 to finish +5 and miss the weekend.

It's great watching some of these guys miss putts (lol). Saw some poor chipping too (imo) for pros. Yeah, they got it onto the green; but with a 30 ft putt! Watching Scheffler chip is a treat though.
Can Rose hang on? How many times has he been in this position over the last 20 years? Yet no green jacket.
