While many sources seem to have narrowed the field of potential first-round quarterbacks to two players, there are reportedly some scouts who believe taking any quarterback on Day 1 “would be a mistake,” per Dane Brugler of The Athletic.
According to a post from Brugler, an AFC scout commented on the matter, saying, “Man, I feel bad for the teams trying to find one (quarterback) in this group.”
There are two obvious options for teams currently looking at a first-round quarterback: Miami’s Cam Ward and Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders. After Ward and Sanders, there’s a big perceived dropoff in quarterback talent in this year’s draft class with other prospects like Alabama’s Jalen Milroe, Texas’ Quinn Ewers, and Ole Miss’ Jaxson Dart all being projected as Day 2 or 3 picks. Georgia passer Carson Beck, who recently declared for the draft, forgoing one final year of eligibility (granted because of COVID-19), was at one point viewed as a first-round option, but after a disappointing redshirt season and UCL surgery, his draft stock took a considerable hit.

In an interview on the Rich Eisen Show, Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer tabbed Browns coaching and personnel consultant Mike Vrabel as a name to watch for the Giants‘ likely opening head coaching position.
In another interview, this one with NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero on Good Morning Football, Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson was discussed. According to Pelissero, Johnson’s likeliest destination in 2025 remains Chicago.
“There are multiple teams that have been doing extensive homework on Jon Gruden,” continued Pelissero, who added that his name could pop up as head coaching interviews commence.
Owner Jed York said prior to last night’s game that head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch will be back for 2025 (h/t the San Francisco Standard via ESPN).
As the 2025 hiring cycle approaches, candidates for the three current head coaching vacancies (and others which will likely soon open) are emerging. Byron Leftwich hopes to be among the names to receive consideration for a position on an NFL staff this year.

I've always had a lot of respect for Deion Sanders as an athlete and a person of faith. And he's done a good job in the coaching ranks too. But he also gets a little brash and demanding. He recently said he'd only move to coaching the NFL if he got to coach his son. And just the other day he made the comment that there are teams in the league he would not let Shedeur play for. Really? You exercise that much control over your kid?
And it appears he has a strong interest in the vacant Raider's head coaching job, who also need a QB. The only issue is they have the #6 pick. So what if one of the teams above the Raiders draft Shedeur, but aren't looking for a new head coach, like Tenn, Cleveland, Giants? The Patriots have the #4 pick, but rumor has it that Vrabel is going to be their next head coach. The Jaguars are looking for a new HC and have the #5 pick; but show no indication they're looking to replace QB Lawrence.
Going to be interesting to see who drafts Shedeur, and what Dad's reaction is going to be. lol

It has been rumored that the Sanders would pull a Manning, if Sheduer was drafted by a team daddy didn't want him to play for.

I thought Deion to the Raiders made sense until we saw how involved Brady is going to be in the decision. No way he allows for a sideshow.

Vrabel to the Patriots shocking absolutely nobody...though I think Brady was pushing for him to go to the Raiders

How's that working out in the NBA for teams that have been involved with the Ball children.
Any G.M. with half a brain would stay far away from anything to do with Deion Sanders. He's such a tool.

JANUARY 12: The Raiders reportedly have “zero interest” in Sanders, who is only using the club for leverage, a source tells Vic Tafur and Tashan Reed of The Athletic (subscription required).

When he can learn how to coach a cohesive O-Line I might be willing to entertain him as Raiders coach. Anytime he faced even a decent defense the last two years Shedeur (who I wouldn't mind being LV QB) was running for his life. In the NFL that gets someone killed.

Deion is not an NFL coach, hopefully he and those around him know this.

There has to be a modicum of maturity to be an NFL Head Coach. Deion doesn't have an ounce of it, but he's loaded with immaturity.

Deion does not fit the profile of a Jerry Jones hire. Jerry likes team players and yes men. Deion could go rouge at any moment. Kellen Moore seems more like the kind of guy Jerry would hire

Jones is looking for another Jimmy Johnson now instead of a Switzer, he might think that's Neon Deion, it'll be a disaster

"Just five of the Top 23 pass catchers are still alive in the playoffs, and just 1 of the top 14. Are you sure you want to spend $30M+ on that position?"

Steelers shut down Bears’ trade inquiry for coach Mike Tomlin: Source (https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6071781/2025/01/18/steelers-coach-mike-tomlin-bears-trade-request/)
Just days after Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin reiterated his plans to remain in Pittsburgh, the longtime Steelers coach is still receiving interest. The Chicago Bears and at least one other team have contacted the Steelers about Tomlin’s availability in a trade, according to a league source.
The Steelers have rejected those inquiries and informed teams that Tomlin’s contract includes a no-trade clause, as first reported by ESPN.

“Draft picks are our biggest form of currency, so when there’s opportunities to trade back to collect more picks, we’re going to do that,” Borgonzi said during his introductory press conference (via ESPN’s Turron Davenport). “We’re going to look at all avenues as far as that number one pick,” president of football operations Chad Brinker added. “But we won’t pass on a generational talent with the first pick in the NFL Draft.”
