View Full Version : 2025 Weekly College Football Pick'em
Summer's flying by, so is baseball, and before we know it, it's college football!
We all know how scheduling is the first week or two of the season. It's all over the place. I'm looking at making Week #1 beginning Thursday, August 28th thru Sunday, August 31st. Normally, the schedule will be primarily Friday-Saturdy games. Only including Sunday in week 1 because those could be a couple good games (lol).
It's open to all. I only ask that if you want to play, make the commitment to play every week. It's not a situation where you play one week, and then skip a week or two. Makes it harder on me when it comes to tracking. And that doesn't mean that if one forgets a week or two we'll kick them out either (lol).
But we've been doing this for several years now, and we've made changes, it's evolved over time.
I'll post the "rules" and Week #1 schedule when we get closer to the new season
(if a mod wants to make this a sticky at some point I'd appreciate it)

I always appreciate the annual reminder that I should absolutely not bet on sports.
I'm going to have to get my picks in early because me and some buddies are going on a golf trip in Harrodsburg, KY then. Bright Leaf Golf Resort. Never been. I heard several guys complaining "Do you know OSU plays Texas on Saturday, and we'll be on the links??" I look at it as enjoying two of my past-times at the same time (lol).
Reminder: If there is no point spread, it's because it was under a FG. ;)

It's always rough the first few weeks of the season with all the cupcake games. There's only one top 10 team on this week's schedule (#6 Oregon), and they're a 28.5 pt favorite over their oponent (OSU) lol But there are more, what I think, "evenly matched" games this week, which means I'm probably gonna get screwed.

I watched the first quarter of the Ohio State, Oregon, and Tennessee games. Not wasting my time when there's other, more competitive games, on.

I looked all over the 'net early this morning - from Draft King to Vegas Insider - and there are no odds given for the Indiana State- Indiana game. ???? The Hoosiers have played them 8x, and won 7. And beat them up pretty bad. But with no odds I took them off the schedule. Sorry Hoosier fans.

The Hooisers simply destroy Illinois. I don't think Fickel is long for Wisconsin. Notre Dame lost to Purdue by .5 (spotting 26.5), and Washington (spotting 20.5) won over Washington State by .5.
Not impressed with Michigan's QB Underwood at all; but their RB Haynes? :eek: They still squeak by an average Cornhusker's team IMO. Of all the games, I thoroughly enjoyed the Oklahoma-Auburn game.

The dreaded point spread got most of us this week with 5 favored teams not able to meet it. I didn't think Vandy would meet that 21.5 pt spread over Utah State. They fell short by 1.5 (lol). When you pick both teams you can't lose. I also take some blame here, because I check every post to insure no one misses anything, or does some thing wrong, so I can tell them and get it corrected before game times. I checked your post and "liked" it. I'll assume you wanted Cincy, unless you tell me otherwise, and credit you with that.

Not as successful a week as last week; but we all got nailed by the dreaded point spread in various situations this week.
'Bama lost by .5 ... S. Carolina won by .5 ..... 13.5 favorite Vols squeaked by the Razorbacks by a FG ... Florida State was simply being Florida State losing to Pitt .... Cincy and Minnesota both won, but fell short of the spread.

What did tell I you?
#2 Miami (FL) and #7 Texas Tech both go down to unranked teams. Crazy. The B1G and SEC is going to dominate once again. The B12 is pretty decimated IMO of the "high level" talent. The ACC has fallen on hard times.
Looking at scores last night, and also taking into consideration the spreads, I didn't think this would be the best of weeks for a lot of us. Congrats to Puffy (12-6) and Kilgore (11-7) who didn't seem fazed by it. I felt kind of "uneasy" about some of my picks, and it turned out right (lol).
The last hopes of the ACC and B12 went down this week (Miami(FL) and Texas Tech. They both should make the playoffs, looking at their remaining schedules; but I think they both got "exposed" IMO.
The only thing I saw as a positive for the Badgers in that game vs the Buckeyes was their defensive line. They gave OSU's O-line fits, and made them fight for that 98 yards rushing. I just give credit to Sayin' for adjusting and leading the team ... 36/42 393 yds 4 TDs
Wisconsin's offensive looked pretty inept. Their remaining schedule ... #8 Oregon, Washington, #3 Indiana, Illinois, Minnesota. Do they get another win (Washington?)

Went up to see him this afternoon and brought pizza. He's doing better and thinks he'll get sprung in a couple of weeks. He sends his regards and he should be back posting soon.
Hello everyone. I've finally got myself health-wise in a position to respond, and fill everyone in on my situation.
My colon was clogged, and they had to care flight me to Springfield, yes it was touch n go, where they removed a section of my colon. I now have a bag attached to me, which should be temporary(several monts). I'm currently in rehab, been here a few weeks, and have maybe a couple more to go before I go home.
I want to thank everyone for their prayers and support. It's going to be a process, but I am thankful to be alive.

I hope and predict that OU crushes Alabama tonight since the Tide fraudulently took Notre Dame's spot. Five SEC teams is outdated.

"You can't punish a team that makes it to their conference championship." Unless you belong to the Big 12. Then it's fine. Because we all know that the top 6 SEC teams would go 12-5 in the NFL.

I’ve watched plenty of conference championship games in the past where they were negative implications for the loser. You certainly weren’t rewarded. Other than a lesser bowl bid.

Got released from rehab yesterday morning. A little over 2 months total. The nurses in rehab said they're gonna miss me and my antics (lol). I set some land speed records in my wheelchair zooming around the halls. But I'm back home, walking freely; but I got to build up the strength more in my legs. I got a YMCA membership, which is nearby. ;)
Thought I'd get a head start and get those first 10 games in. As usual, when it comes to Bowl games, there were some surprises.
Sorry to say, the SEC ain't doing too good (so far) in this Bowl season. Which is probably why our records are like they are so far. But I wouldn't be surprised if either Georgia and 'Bama don't make some noise. That was a solid game last night betwen the Tenn-Illinois. Neither team's defense could get a stop in that 2nd half, and I though for sure the Vols would catch them. I picked Tenn (lol).
I thought TCU didn't have much of a chance after their QB entered the portal, but Seals did a heck of a job. And USC's WR Hines had one heck of a game receiving. It was a shoot-out (lol). 750+ total yards of offense
