Took decades for the Super Bowl to get that late but the CFP is already there.

If you think your favorite school has a tough schedule this season, it's nothing compared to Louisiana Tech's 20 game schedule.

I guess that puts some validity to the fact he need NIL money to pay some bills.
Wonder if the NFL could ban him because of this?

I wonder if he's gotten his $5mill from TTU yet?
I'm one who doesn't understand gambling addiction, and how a person can basically ruin their lives. But it hit close to home with one of our golfing foursome. He was an emotional mess, almost had a breakdown, because of all the debt he accrued from gambling. He couldn't stop. We're talking credit card debt of around 80 thousand, he was borrowing from his 401K and his girlfriend. He got himself self-banned from all the casinos in Ohia, so what does he do? Goes to Michigan.
I kept telling him "Dude, if you have to be addicted to something, let it be golf!" This went on and on for about 2-3 years before he finally faced up to his problem a couple years ago - and almost lost his GF - and went cold turkey. Fortunately he has a good job at Honda, was able to work all the OT he wanted, was basically living at the place, and has gotten himself out of the hole.
I guess that's how they build those grand casinos. On people like him.
I got cured on gambling 50 years ago while in the Navy. Poker games were quite prevalent when you're out at sea. As a young buck I got talked into participating. I'd sit down at the table, put a twenty down and say "When it's gone I'm gone!". I don't think I lasted an hour! LOL

Its simple, you like the action, crave the action. The problem has become the ease of access for gambling platforms. You have access in your pocket 24 hours a day.
When gambling became legal in Ohio I download a couple of apps and got the free bets. I got bored after a while and started making outlandish bets just to try to run dry my "free" bets.
To me the whole issue with gambling is the amount you could win was never really wroth it. Betting 10 games on a weekend, hoping I could win 6-7 and net a hundred or two hundred dollars wasn't worth it to me. The downside was too great and the upside just wasn't worth it. When you consider professional gamblers want to win around 55% of the time, its crazy the amount of money at risk for such a small return.
Last opening day I had a buddy open up his app and we stated betting on pitches of an at bat. I was a fun way to pass time, and I understand how quickly you can lose money, 5 dollars on a pitch and all of a sudden that is a bunch of money at risk.
I get how young men, especially in college (or of college age) get addicted. I had an off shore account when I was in college. But 25 years ago, sports betting wasn't as in your face as it is today. I don't have issue with college kids betting, even athletes as long as they aren't betting on their sport. But Sorsby broke the cardinal rule and bet on his own team. I don' see how this ends well for him. UC may have dodge a massive bullet here.
The reason they're able to build these huge, luxurious, grand casinos is because there are far more losers then winners. ;)

Of course, but many of us understand the math and still enjoy it. Is what it is. Horse racing is probably more "fair" in that respect in that you're not betting against the house. The tracks are thrilled for you to win, because they just take their cut of all the wagers. You're betting against your fellow gamblers.

I’m not saying gambling should be outlawed. It’s your money, not mine. lol
When it comes to this Texas Tech quarterback Sorsby? I have no sympathy for him whatsoever, and I hope he goes down and gets banned. This is a kid that’s already being paid $5 million a year to play college football. That’s friggin $5 million a year, and this kid, in all his arrogance, deliberately breaks, flaunts, the rules and gambles on his own team. Then goes out and gets a famous, high priced lawyer to negotiate and get him out of it so he can play in ‘26. And if NCAA doesn’t let him play, he threatens to sue them. I hope the kid gets banned. If not, what kind of message is that sending to every other college athlete?

It goes beyond what you've written here. UC may not be in the clear if they knew about this stuff and didn't report it last year. TTU may be out however many millions they've already paid Sorsby. A lot of irons and interests in this fire

Maybe UC were the ones who tipped off TTU about Sorsby and gambling?!?!? I do have a hard time thinking that UC would have known about his gambling and then decided to turn a blind eye.
I do think there is a possibility they knew something but didn't know Sorsby bet on his team. There hasn't been any smoke that Sorsby bet on UC while he was playing there.

It's not even just betting on his team's games, either; NCAA athletes aren't allowed to bet on any other college games or professional games in which the NCAA sponsors a championship, so that only leaves things like UFC, horse racing and auto racing that'd be on the up and up. I know there were rumors UC knew of Sorsby's gambling, but if so, a lot will come down to what type of gambling they knew he was participating in because following the UC athletic department decision making, I'd be very surprisied if they knowingly played someone they knew shouldn't be eligible.

What do you guys think?
College football coaches have come out in favor of ending conference title games, starting the playoff earlier so we finish the season by the second Monday in January, and support an expanded playoff, likely 24 teams.

2 of the 3 items sound good. I think 24 is too many. 16 is probably the right number. Conference title games are pretty pointless overall (if the playoff grows to 16 or especially 24), but the G5s may still want to keep playing them.

Conference title games are dumb, especially in the current environment.
I don't mind the 24 teams. Basically the top 8 teams get byes and then everyone else plays an opening round game. That is 8 more games of good meaning football. Sure some may be laughable, but so were JMU and Tulane playing their opening round games this year.
With NIL and players being paid, I think the sport is flattening out a bit. Whereas a decade ago you may have had 3-5 teams who could win a title, I think that number had doubled. But I also think making the field larger enables programs to achieve something that they otherwise couldn't have. I don't think Minnesota can really hope to win a title, however there is a possibility that they make the CFP. That gives those fans something to look forward to. It also may give programs who are building for something a better chance of keeping the team together.
If it were up to me it would look like this:
First round, top seed gets a home game. 8 teams get byes.
Second round top seed gets a home game.
Third round top seed gets a home game.
The final 4 and Championship are played at neutral sites.
I would work with the NFL (and maybe the networks) where CFP final 4 and finals are played on a Saturday or as a lead in to the NFL games. Enough with playing your biggest game of the year on a Monday at 830. Dumb!
I would add in other qualifiers, 9 conference games with at least 1 power conference non conference game.
Group of 6 is guaranteed one spot, although I think more would make it.
I think the first round may not have every team that is 100% deserving, but at least it would be interesting football. Then once you get to second round, I think you get good football, and I am all for more good football.

I'm OK with it. It's pretty much irrelevant for the power conferences especially with an expanded, expanded playoff.

I read an article about the expanded 24 team CFP playoffs. This is what last seasons schedule would have been. Would you watch any of these games?
(24) Georgia Tech at (9) Notre Dame
(23) North Texas at Miami (10)
(22) Navy at (11) Alabama
(21) Arizona at (12) BYU
(20) Virginia at (13) Vanderbilt
(19) James Madison at (14) Texas
(18) Michigan at (15) Utah
(17) Tulane at (16) USC

This is pretty good:
Steve Sarkisian on Ole Miss’ transfer portal practices and academic standards:
“At Texas, we will only take 50% of a player’s academic credit hours. You may be a semester from graduating, but you’re going all the way back to 50% if you play here and want a degree. But at Ole Miss, they can take you. All you have to do is take basket weaving, and you can get an Ole Miss degree.”

Yep. I would watch all of those over the bowl games we get. Its a day (multiple days) full of games that mean something.
I am guaranteed 12 OSU football games a season. And with my busy schedule, and with the propensity of Fox to put them at noon, I am not able to watch every one, or even most of them it feels like. I am for whatever give me the opportunity to watch as many games as possible.
FWIW I think the below games were all better than Tulane at Ole Miss and JMU at Oregon.
GT v ND
Arizona v BYU
Virginia v Vandy
Michigan v Utah
If you are telling me that if Tulane is giving USC a game late in the 2nd half, or Navy is down a TD with under 10 to go with the ball, I am finding a way to watch that game. Could they be duds, absolutely, but so are conference title games and half the 1st round playoff games right now.
