View Full Version : Gonelongs 3rd annual Season W/L prediction thread ...

This was a rousing success the last 2 seasons, so lets give it another shot. Pardon me being a little early with it this season, however, I'll be out of state until opening day. I'll be down in Alabama at Lake Weiss catching some monster Crappie this week. :) Don't worry, I'll be back in time to catch the Opening Day festivites (and game) in Cincy on Monday.

Anyhow ...

Lets have everybody chime in here, and if I may be so bold ... I politely request that everyone hold off on the "If so an so is healthy" or if this/that stuff for this one thread.

We'll have 50 other threads were you can guess 162-0 or 110-52, so Ill ask very, very, very nicely to please give a simple range of Ws for a regular season record prediction. Not your hope, not a best/worst case scenarion, not your "optimistic", "pessimistic", or "realistic" slant, but the number you'd put out there if you had to bet your house on being right.

Max range of 5 Ws, and not give or take 5 (a 10 W range).

Gonelong predicts: between 72-77 Wins

I'm going with 80 wins, and I'm man enough to not need the five win buffer!

I will be brave enough to say 85 W's this season. I'll take the 5 though...I think the pitching is going to pleasantly surprise, coupled with Adam resugence (Thank you CC!).

Well Sean McAdam writing for ESPN in talking about the NL Central Race said that the Cubs and Astros got to play two of the 4 worst teams in baseball 40 times.....and he was talking about the Pirates and the Brewers.....now, to me, I was floored when I read the first half of the sentence and then saw that the Reds were NOT one of the teams.

So, maybe the Reds aren't going to be as bad as I thought.

I have to say that Acevedo and Harang give me reason to pause while crying in my beer....here. Only trouble is that Adam Dunn cannot hit 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th.

I am going way out on a limb here.....and I know it is just Opening Day fever talkin' here.....

80-82

And get this.....ahead of the Cardinals.

81-81 Reds stick with the plan and the young arms start to develop. We need to beat up on the Pirates,Brewers and the like of those types, there seems to be some strong teams in thee NLC this year. What the heck today everybody has the same record.GOTTA LOVE THOSE REDS!

actually, i think we'll be fighting the Cards all year for 3rd place...and if you remove Jimmy Haynes from the rotation and replace him with just about anybody, i think the Reds and Cards rotations are about equal. i think our BP is better than the Cards, but their offense should make up for that. it'll be interesting to watch.

My guess for this year is....... 92 WINS - 70 LOSSES!!!
I feel like the Reds can go all the way this year. This is the best team that we have had in a long time. This is our year!

91 - 71, the team is looking very sharp. I want to see Freel out there around 150 games, with Haynes gone. I have some reasons to believe this year. The Chemistry will be the key. If you want to look for a reason to believe look to Miley and Chambliss.

Unless of course, Jupiter and Saturn align with Uranus (he he he - I said Uranus), then it will be 74-88.

And on a lighter note, I will also predit Jung Bong will get at least one single this year, then we can all say, "Despite a disappointing 5th place finish by the Reds, they lead the majors in Bong hits."

And can't you just hear Marty now, "After the Bong hit, several Reds players couldn't stop giggling, while munching down sunflower seeds 12 at a time."

I'm going with 60-102, here's why:

*** VERY inexperienced in the starting rotation (no star pitchers)
*** Junior is already on his way to another injured season
*** Kearns may be going through a sophomore-like season
*** our bullpen is VERY GOOD, but definitely not great or superb
*** we are slow up the middle of the infield
*** Casey has been declining offensively every year
*** the Reds will likely trade the better players at the All-Star break
*** we have next to no bench
*** we made no acquisitions in the off-season that will make an impact this year

I am going to go with 71...crappies that is, first day, with the biggest of the week besting 3 pounds. I have no idea how many wins the Reds will net though, well at least not until trader dan is done.
Good luck.

This is not the Boone & Bowden show anymore. That should be good for 15 more wins by accident....... ;)

MAKING A PITCH: The Reds entered Sunday seventh in the National League in pitching so far this spring with a 4.44 ERA.

Even more impressive is the starting pitchers' ERA of 3.89

Don't drink the water and maybe you can avoid that :)
