I used to post as Ed Armbrister on the old board (can't think of the name of it, but found it from a link at the Enquirer site, I think). There was much chaos over there, so I followed what I considered to be the more sane and interesting group of ppl over here... and have never looked back :).

I came here via a link posted on a Reds mailing list. I think it was originally posted by the infamous Drew Nelson who was subsequently banned here and there. Those who don't like the pessimism on this board would probably find that list to be suffocating at times.

On the general discussion board of another sports website, somebody asked for a good Reds message board & another poster mentioned Redszone, so I eventually decided to check it out & it's now the only Reds message board I visit. (Unlike for the Bengals, where I have a couple different ones, as none really seem that much better than the others or are as good as this site.)

On the general discussion board of another sports website, somebody asked for a good Reds message board & another poster mentioned Redszone, so I eventually decided to check it out & it's now the only Reds message board I visit.

That's exactly how I found RedsZone. Someone asked the best, most knowledgeable Reds board, and another poster said RedsZone was really good, but that he didn't post here. Warned us to read for a while before posting, because he said that the board could be really hard on outsiders. I never found it that way.

Word of mouth from a RZ member. I won't mention the person b/c I do not want you to hold it against them. We worked at the same company. We happened to notice each other's multiple REDS junk hanging in our respective offices.

Thanks, GIK! I used to be the "I don't need the internet at home, I work on a computer all day at work" type.

I used to get home from work and do things like softball, play music, get out of the house and other things. Now I get home, log on, eat and sleep.

All thanks to RZ! :GAC:

p.s. I'd like to hear a story about the birth of RZ too. I have caught numerous tales of the "old days", but would love to read about it in a thread as a whole story.

Rojo, I believe the cincinnati.com folks were the orignal migration, the Pilgrims of Redszone if you will.

Us folks who came from the Dayton site are more like the Puritans who followed, passing around scarlet letters and burning witches.

IIRC, the those two groups came together on the Thon site around the time the Jr. deal went down and then splintered when Thon went the way of the dodo. There were a number of posters doing double, perhaps triple, duty when Redszone first started up. We'd hear about it over on the Dayton site.

The final push from Dayton over to here came in the fall of 2000. For me it was a REDREAD re-post of something Steve4192 wrote that caused me to check it out.

15, can you remember the name of the guy who moderated the Dayton site at the end and chose to stay when everyone else left? He was a good guy and hopefully he's here now with another handle

In the days when people(Me) didn't have to work when they went to work, I frequented just about every Reds board I could find. The Thon, DDN, Fastball, Cincy.com, baseballboards.com, MLB.com, FanHome.com, and then here too when it was just a itty bitty board. As time became more scarce and they began to make me 'earn' my paycheck, I dropped the less interesting boards(or they dropped themselves) one at a time until finally this is the only board I have time for...and sometimes that's a stretch. But I keep coming back because a day without RemDog is like a day without sunshine.

Enquirer migrator myself. Was not a bug poster there - not that I am here either - but there I very quickly lost interest with all the stuff that was happening. I am not a message board guy. This is the only one I currently belong to as it fills an important niche for me, being up here with Phil in BG (Red fan stuck in Indians/Tigers land). Boss, GIK, et al do a fantastic job here. It is much appreciated. I am not posting much from work anymore as I am plenty busy, but plan to officially join up from home via PayPal real soon.

I followed Boss and GIK from Cincy.com. I remember Boss originally tried to set up something through ICQ, I believe. He really tried lots of different things to get out of the Cincy.com mess. It was awful without a real moderator. He finally hooked up with GIK and now you see what we have....a great site that is very much under control. Boy, some of those old memories of Nux and his sort are thankfully fading. It sure was interesting though. :)

When things went to nothing but smack talk and juvenile antics on the old enquirer board, Boss and GIK stated in a thread that they were thinking about starting a new board. VERY shortly thereafter (seemed like a couple of days), they announced they started a new board. I immediately joined and never posted again at the enquirer board. Larkin Fan, rem, RFS62, Phil, Wetzel, and a whole lot of poster who were trying to make serious post joined at the same time. About a year later I think, the enquirer board callapsed under it's own weight of bs and lack of moderators. Then about a year or two later I think, the dayton board collapsed, for reasons I'm not aware of. Then we had a second wave of serious posters join; princeton, M2, etc.

About a year later I think, the enquirer board callapsed under it's own weight of bs and lack of moderators. IIRC the official reason was the coverage of 9/11 and how much bandwidth it took (graphics, videos) - they couldn't keep it up, also didn't they shut down all the forums, too?
