I saw a preview of The Ring 2 when I saw The Grudge. Because, you know, The Grudge alone wasn't scary enough. They had to add a preview of Samara being all scary.

I can't quite understand why someone who has really long hair covering their face can freak me out so much. I can't even blow-dry my hair like I used to (by putting my head down) because looking at myself in the mirror with my hair covering my face is creepy.

Yeah, I need help. I know.

Your rain, in the land of sunshine, almost messed up my boy Dale Jr winning that race yesterday. :nono: ;)

It rained cats and dogs the night before, but come race day, it was nice and overcast, but no rain.

Junior could win on a mud track, if need be, although I'm still partial to my boy Kevin Harvick.

On an additional note, got a jury summons in the mail this weekend. Never served before, it's for the week after Christmas.

Anyone else done that before?I've done it. It's not for the impatient. Lots of sitting around and waiting for things to happen with little explanation for delays. I won't avoid it, but I will be less enthused about it if I should be called again. I only did it for 2 days, but I feel sorry for the people on juries where the case takes weeks or months.

Here's my Dale Jr./Kevin Harvick story for Creek and any other Nascar fans that read this thread.

A few years back, a buddy of mine and I took the afternoon off and went to see the Truck races on a Friday. So we're walking around outside the whole carnival area in the walkup section of Phoenix Int'l Raceway.
We stop, and watch a huge mob of women, aged 12 to 60, just fawn all over Dale Junior like he was Tom Cruise. We sat back and watched this for a few minutes, and these two other guys stop next to us, and watch this scene unfold, and the four of us crack a few jokes, have a few laughs watching all these women just dying over meaning Junior.

Just then, someone walked by, and said "Hey you're Kevin Harvick", and got the gentleman standing to my right to sign a hat of his. So I asked who he was racing for, and he told me his name, and that he was racing in the Busch series the next day. So I shook his hand and the crew member next to him, and wished him luck.

Next February, Dale Earnhardt died and Harvick became the driver of the 29 car in the Cup series. Been a huge fan ever since.

Does anyone remember me talking about my Fantasy Football team with my work league starting 0-4 and being absolutely pathetic because of injuries? Lost Steve Smith, Kellen Winslow, Deuce McAllister for 2 games, etc. Well since starting 0-4, I've won 4 straight and put up the biggest game of my life against the first place team this week. I scored 173 points and have Antoine Winfield going tonight. He has Dante Culpepper. I'm leading 173-74 going into tonight's game. After tonight, I'll be 5-4 and in 4th place by myself. What a turnaround.

Puffy is correct, plus...

"On Wednesday, he makes a brief appearance on NBC's "The West Wing," but it's the first of several. Smits joins the dramatic series as Matthew Santos, a three-term Houston congressman with presidential aspirations. He'll have competition. It's been reported that Alan Alda, the former Hawkeye Pierce from "M*A*S*H," will play a Republican senator with similar goals."

Question: If your friend is engaged, and you think she's making a mistake, do you say anything to her?

Timing is everything.

If your friend is happy and in love then you should bite your tongue until the time is right or she asks you for an opinion.

If it's a long engagement then your chance will come if you make it happen. But if you force the issue prior to her being prepared for it then it can get ugly.

Sorry. I guess if it wasn't a horror movie, you wouldn't know about it. :p: Basically someone has a bunch of money they have to spend in 30 days or so. At the end of that 30 days they can't own anything. If they don't own anything then and haven't told anyone why they are spending all that money, they win like 10 times the amount they spent. Otherwise they get nothing. And if they tell anyone they get nothing either.

"I'm cautiously optimistic that perhaps we'll have a modicum of activity in the market. But of course, we need to be fiscally responsible and stay within the parameters that we operate in. I firmly believe that we will maybe kinda sorta think about doing something soon that probably includes the word "baseball" and they there is an excellent chance that I'll convert some oxygen to carbon dioxide today and maybe have a baloney sandwich for lunch. Unless I change my mind and have a cheeseburger with pickles. We will contend in 2005, however contend is a relative term and the most likely thing we'll contend for is the label of most-wishy-washy GM in baseball. I firmly believe this. Well, maybe".

The thread just passed page 700 for those of us who use 40 posts/page. I was going to make all of my posts on that page refer to WLW in some way, but the page came and went without me.

I'm looking forward 10 page 1000 :D

I've done it. It's not for the impatient. Lots of sitting around and waiting for things to happen with little explanation for delays. I won't avoid it, but I will be less enthused about it if I should be called again. I only did it for 2 days, but I feel sorry for the people on juries where the case takes weeks or months.

Does not sound like fun to me :dflynn:

My 11 yr. old (Lizzy) is getting her ears pierced today. She is excited.

And my 14 yr. old (Jen) is getting a second ear piercing too. She's mad because we made her wait till she was 13 to get her ears pierced and now Lizzy is getting them done at 11.

We basically got worn down by Lizzy and the second piercing for Jen is to shut her up about it.

I offered to do it free with an ice pick and apple but they declined.

Tell your daughter I didn't get my ears pierced until I was 27. Most of my HS friends had the apple treatment.

On an additional note, got a jury summons in the mail this weekend. Never served before, it's for the week after Christmas.

Anyone else done that before?

here, it's a one day or one trial thing. and then you're done for two years. I've been on two juries, both short, both criminal, neither graphic. my last experience wasn't a good one. hung jury. Still bothers me that we couldn't come to a verdict. (we were split right down the middle.) I really hated putting all those people through another trial.

my sister in law was on a federal grand jury. she said that was interesting. they called her off and on for 18 months, I believe. she said it was worth the experience.

My brother was on a civil case in Dallas, and he said that was interesting. I'd kind of like to do a civil case.

I haven't had good experiences serving on juries, but I'll serve again when my time comes. Kind of like voting. The system doesn't work unless we all try to participate.

Question maybe Puffy can answer. If I'm called again, do you think having been on a hung jury will disqualify me from future jury service? And can they ask you in voi dire (sp?) how you voted on a hung jury? And if they do, do you have to answer? I'd prefer not to. Not to hide anything. Just out of respect for my fellow jurors.

Can I pose a pseudo "Question of the Day" for the Thread? I can? Great! ;)

Question: If your friend is engaged, and you think she's making a mistake, do you say anything to her?

I wouldn't, you can kill a friendship real quick by doing that, wait and see if she asks you or shows doubts..if you just shoot that in out of left field it won't be good.

Remember the movie Walking Tall? My parents refused to let me see it. Man, I "hated" them for that. EVERYONE, and I mean EVERYONE at school got to go but me. I was 16, and it was rated R. They wouldn't let me go. (I didn't even know what it was about, but, but man, I HAD to see that movie.) Now, I'm kind of glad I didn't. They didn't want me to see Gone with the Wind, either. Said I wasn't old enough. But they caved in on that one.

Found this about that movie Sandy

At the time of the film's theatrical release, the MPAA rating system was comparatively new, so the studio launched an ad campaign aimed at parents, letting them know that the "R" rated Walking Tall contained violence and not sex, and therefore was good family entertainment

My dad decreed that my sister and I had to wait til we were 16 to get our ears pierced... My mom, thinking that was a bit excessive, quietly took us and got it done shortly after we each turned 10. My dad never even noticed...

I waited until college to get my ears double pierced and my cartilage done. I was trying to be a good role model for my cousins, who are all younger than me and want multiple piercings and tattoos. However, my whole idea of being a good role model went out the window when the oldest started drinking and having serious "relations" last year at the age of 15... Where did I go wrong??? :( She calls me a nerd since I didn't drink until I was almost 18 and have different morals than she does. Obviously, I'm not as cool as I had previously thought... :p:

Found out today there is a street named Hoo Shoo Too St. Any ideas where that came from?
Q. Can you tell me how Hoo Shoo Too Road and Tiger Bend got their names?
A. Hoo Shoo Too Road was formerly called Clark Road. Before it was used for a street name, the name Hoo Shoo Too was used for a men's club on the banks of the Amite River. Ernest Gueymard, the late managing editor of the State-Times, looked into the origin of the club's name in one of his columns on area history. He recounted different versions of how the club got its odd name. One version is that it originated with a minstrel team that put on a theatrical act in Cajun dialect in 1905. The segment that drew laughs went like this: "Sarah Jane Ludlow is going to get married," said one of the actors, who was then asked. "Who she to married get?" The "who she to" line is said to be the origin of "Hoo Shoo Too." Another version, also recounted by Gueymard, involves an old Frenchman who was a caretaker at the club. He knew all the club members' wives. One day, he spotted an unfamiliar woman and was curious about which member was her husband. "Who she to?" he asked.
Tiger Bend Road was a challenge. There was no information in The Advocate library and no official information at the Planning Commission. However, Nicki Strickland, who works for the commission, recounts a story from her father, Bolos Mansur, who was born in Baton Rouge in 1923. Her father said that when he was a boy, the LSU football team had a secret location to practice secret plays. The field was at the last section of what is now Lake at White Oak. To get there, he said, the team would turn at the bend of a gravel road. Because the team would be seen going back there, people started calling it Tiger Bend Road.

Strickland says she can't locate anyone to confirm the story. If any of our readers have different information about the source of the Tiger Bend name, let us know. Meanwhile, we enjoyed Strickland's story.

do you drink soy milk? I stopped drinking regular milk a while back, and now drink only soy milk. My allergies are better. Not gone, but my reactions aren't as strong. And I still eat other forms of dairy. Just not cow's milk.

(I still have to take allergy pills sometimes, and I still have chronic ear infections. BUT, I don't get the coughs I used to get almost annually.)I rarely drink milk anymore, since I discovered Slim-Fast a year or so ago, but I think it has milk solids in it. The soy versions of milk and Slim-Fast leave me with the distinct sensation that I've just had paint to drink. :p: I can drink them, but I find them kind of unpalatable.

You should all be happy to know I worked up the nerve to open one of my closets tonight! Yay for me! ;) Heading out to the concert, I realized it was too cold not to wear a coat ... and all my coats were in a closet. No little kids were in there, thank goodness. At least none that 1. I could see, or 2. jumped out at me.

I enjoyed Jem. I really like her voice. She reminds me of Beth Orton. Might pick up her CD sometime. What struck me as weird was the marquee on the theater. It said "As seen and heard on FOX's 'The O.C.': Jem"

After the concert, I went to the grocery. And of all people, I ran into my Ben-Gal friend! I asked her how it was going, and was she liking it. She said she likes cheering at games (she's cheered at 3 so far), but everything else is shady. Gee, I never would have guessed!

lgj, before I go to bed, just a comment on your grandmother's blood sugar.

I'm not a doctor, but I would ask a few questions:

If she was a diabetic before this started, is this doctor the one treating her for that?

Either way, I'd ask if there's some way to change her diet to improve that. He may not be worried because he thinks the benefit of the new meds outweigh the risks. Doesn't mean you can't minimize the risks through other means than changing meds.

Just a thought.

Drinking and smoking pot/cigs - 14-15. I was a juvenile delinquent but I grew up quick. I was done with all that stuff by the time other kids were just experimenting. I've always been older than people my age. I turned out to be somewhat of a bookworm in high school.

Why yes Krono, I did. And I'll probably tell you again.

As I tell my son:

- Are you waiting for an invitation?
- Is there part of what I said that wasn't clear?
- Were the words too big?
- Are you catching the thrust of my intentions?
- Is there some reason why you are still sitting there?
- Do you think when I tell you to do something, I mean "oh sometime in the near or far future when you feel like doing it and never mind what I think"?
- I didn't think so either.

- Do you need a ride over there?
- Some gas money?
- I can lend you a pen for the job application.
- I can lend you a tie, a comb, mouthwash, and fingernail clippers.

Don't make me pull this car over.

Let's see...

- The girls got their ears pierced last night. My youngest was a little nervous but she came though it OK.
- I didn't go. I stayed home and folded laundry. I had made a deal with my wife that if she cut the grass, I'd fold laundry.
- I've been on jury duty twice. Once a civil case that I'm surprised went to trial since the case was so weak and once a drunk driving case that was open and shut. I was the foreman for the civil case which was interesting.
- There aren't many drugs that I haven't taken. The biggest problem was, they were a lot of fun for a while. It wasn't till I looked around after a couple years and noticed I had total derelict friends and skanky girlfriends and about a 2.5 GPA.
- I think I had my first drink of beer when I was in about the 5th grade. The problem was, I really liked it. We had just eaten some salty buttered popcorn, the beer was cold, and I thought "hey, this is great". That's a bad sign.
- And I was 15 when I started everything. Drinking in earnest, drugs, and sex. I just never got caught.
- My kids really can't get away with much. I've pretty well done it all. Drew the line at needles (gotta have some scruples, eh?).
- I'm slow to learn my lessons. However, once they sink through my thick skull, I learn them exceedingly well. I'm Mr. Mild-Mannered now.

Never smoked pot, which served me well in my quest to get a security clearance. However, I did grow it, which caused me a lot of problems with my clearance. Never smoked cigarettes, but I did puff on a few cigars. I've been a very very good girl. Unless we start talking about that morals clause again. :mhcky21:

How would they be able to tell if you had smoked in the past? It leaves your body after about 30 days and it leaves your hair folicles after about 2-3 years? What else can they take where there would be traces of it, and how would they know if you grew it?

You fill out paperwork where you are expected to be truthful. If you aren't and they find out, kiss that clearance good-bye. I filled out that I had never smoked it, but I had grown it. I also told them that my dog had a tendecy to eat the plants. The ajudicators found that to be amusing. A history of smoking it doesn't preclude you from getting a clearance. Smoking it when you are trying to get a clearance would. And my first clearance was held by an agency that polygraphed, so we talked about it a lot during that.

I have never been tested.

Morning, cats and kittens.

So I was feeling pretty craptacular yesterday, what with this cold kicking my yae-yo up and down the street, but I'm doing better now. And the ncie thing about being sick? It's when you start to feel better, comparitively you feel even better than you did before you became sick, because you've been through the gutter and come back out.

Anyway, I've got a crushing amount of work to do today, seeing as how I accomplished nothing save filling up my wastebasket with snot-rags yesterday. But a few words:

Shadowbox Cabaret rocks. DG44, do they still have that 40'-tall game at the Easton GameWorks where they strap you into a seat and you go flying up and down in the air while trying to shoot people hanging out of apartment windows or whatever it was? I threw up playing that game last time I was around there.

I guess that's all I got, really. But it would be ncie if sanitation would come around here and empty my wastebasket. :help:

Red Leader

Thanks for that clarification, creek. Interesting information. I didn't think about polygraph tests. I think it would be funny if they had you take a polygraph test for every job you applied for. I wonder how many people would have different jobs today if they did.

Roy Tucker
11-09-2004, 09:36 AM
Just to echo what creek said, it's more how truthful you are on your security application than what you did in the past (within reason that is).

I fully admitted to what I had done when I got my TS clearance. The fact was that it was several years in my past certainly helped. If that had been my current behavior, I would have never gotten within sniffing distance of Langley. I did sweat buckets with a rabbit heartbeat with the polygraph though. It took a while for me to calm down.

The funniest part was when they did the deep background check and I got phone calls from friends saying "an FBI guy just called about you, what in the world have you done??!?!?!?".

I am absolutely scrupulous about what I put on my resume and how I represent myself to companies. Probably go overboard on it actually.

Drinking and smoking pot/cigs - 14-15. I was a juvenile delinquent but I grew up quick. I was done with all that stuff by the time other kids were just experimenting. I've always been older than people my age. I turned out to be somewhat of a bookworm in high school.

I made some mac and cheese earlier, it ended up a bit weird.

First I had the water boiling and the mac in, then I noticed an ANT was floating in the water, I removed him, at this point I debated continuing the cooking assuming the ant and anything he had on him would be gone in the boiling water, or tossing the stuff and starting over...I tossed it and started over, scared some rabbit in the back yard when I threw boiling mac off the porch :D

So I started again, everything is going well, but AH! I have 2 packages of powder cheese..what to do..so I put both in, well...that was not such a hot idea, it's cheesey..WAY cheesy..so cheesy it's like a bit pot of melted cheese and the macaroni is gone :help:

Name: Elizabeth Eggert

Nicole landed her first dramatic role in the television movie When She Was Bad, a somber story about child abuse. Her television career has set a feverish pace, and has included recurring and guest star roles in many hit television shows including: Who's the Boss?, T.J. Hooker, Gilmore Girls, The Outer Limits, Boy Meets World and Married... with Children.

As for film roles, Nicole has had starring roles in Omega Syndrome with Ken Wahl, The Clan of the Cave Bear with Daryl Hannah, Rich and Famous with Candice Bergen and Jacqueline Bisset, and a featured role with Charles Bronson in Kinjite.

Why yes I did there you little Battlin' Beaver.

JV ball up till my senior year (the class ahead of me had 5 stellar players who blocked me all the way through) and then I started at off-guard my last year. Got a few varsity minutes my junior year but not enough to letter.

At which time we stunk because our good coach retired (Bill Yensel) and we had an idiot take his place and he decided to go with a youth movement.

Which wouldn't have been bad, but the sophomores he started sucked.

Basketball is the one sport that Centerville has never been truly dominant in. Mostly because they've never really had ANY good coaches where they've been lucky to have outstanding coaches in girls soccer, baseball, football, volleyball, tennis and golf. It seems that they've had some success in recent years in basketball, though.

It's a beautiful 73 degrees today. Party cloudy, tad bit of dew on the car the morning, but it's still only in the high 40's at night, no ice yet.

Busy morning as usual, perhaps a late lunch today...though it is early yet.

I found out yesterday that I have Thursday off. Talk about a great surprise!! Now I have a four day weekend with nothing to do but drink, eat and watch football. Sometimes life is good!!

hey Zombie, you've got some time to take off, come on down - I've got a fully stocked bar.........

Life is always good.

But I would like to have just one day without pain.

Not that deep psychological "why not me? why can't I be the last one to post on this thread" pain.

Just a sore ankle.

I need more coffee, but the pot is empty. I could make more, but that would be a hassle for one or two more cups. I guess i could sneak out and buy me a cup, but that seems extreme. Crap, damn decisions!!

I will happily report there was no plumbers crack. Not that I really kept checking, but the few times I walked by, I wasn't greeted by an unpleased friend.
