Ok, back to happy stuff:

Braved the scale today. Thought I'd gained over the holidays. BUT, I've lost a couple more pounds. Total 8, in about a month. :D

A bit annoyed with the "iron men" though. For the second workout in a row, I had to wait for the one apparatus I use in there area while they stood around it and chatted mostly. They were using it, sure. But they were taking their sweet time about it.

The gym has been crowded. :D

I don't think there's anytime in my life that I've liked a little Bette Midler...I didn't even like hearing it when they played it for my wife and her Dad at our wedding... :MandJ:Played Bette at the wedding? I think that would have been a deal-breaker for me. :MandJ:

Fortunately for me, I married a woman who despises sappy, sentimental songs.

FWIW, I think Bette is actually a cool gal. I've seen her on talk shows and she comes across as smart and self-effacing. Her over-the-top stage persona and choice of material rub me the wrong way, though.

I guess I'm in the minority here. I *like* Bette Midler.

But I also remember her from 1970-ish when she was truly outrageous and her shows were a real hoot to go see.

She's still awfully damn funny, but yeah, her songs are mass-market and mawkish and sentimental. I don't think I'd pay now to see her, but then, there aren't many performers that I would pay current concert ticket prices for.

But I still remember her from back when.

It might have been for me as well. There was a reason I was not told that this song would be played.

So hard to lose a dog. I actually wanted to put my dog down for a year before he died. Harley Bear was a Lab/Samoyed mix. He was so arthritic. I was in college at the time, and my brother had been caring for him. He would stumble downstairs and couldn't stop at the bottom. He was in pain. My brother and I argued about it, but I let my brother make the call because he was Harley's "human" at the time.

Just finished my self-appraisal for FY 2004. God I hate doing those.

Mine is a concoction of self-aggrandizement and self-flagellation with a hint of horn-tooting and ego deflation topped off by a mish-mosh of industry jargon, i.e. a bunch of BS.

"Scooping up the field mice" was the version I know.

I'm stopping off at home to pick up the spousal unit and remaining child and then finding a place with beer. Tall, cold, frothy draft beers. None of those small glasses, gimme one of those 22 oz. jobbers.

Classic visual gag stuff, sets her up to be a hillbilly. A big role she played only on stage. Gotta remember that Minnie Pearl became popular right as Americas borders were getting closer together, she represents a real world view of what the media saw in the middle of the country. She turned it on them for her benefit.

I went to the mall today (yippee!!). I bought lots of clothes (of course) which no one wants to hear about, but you know what I hate? I hate going into Abercrombie & Fitch, and trying to shop amidst a bunch of giggling size 0 junior high girls. It's size 6 me with a Reds sweatshirt and sneakers on battling it out for a dressing room against little living Barbie dolls in stilettos and jeans. Ugh. And you know what else is ridiculous? I have to look for extra large tops in there!! How dumb is that??? I bought some shorts in there today that were smalls, but for some unknown reason, Abercrombie can't seem to sell t-shirts to accommodate people who actually have boobs. Unbelievable.

I also don't like trying things on as I hear the 2 chickadees in the next dressing room stall cussing like sailors really loudly. It was really, really annoying. These girls couldn't have been more than 14, and their obnoxious conversation made me blush.

Ok, sorry, just had to vent a bit. I did get some great clothes today though... A few shirts, shorts, and a skirt. :)

This was my question and Wayne's answer-

Wayne Simien: Well I am not a superstitious person at all. I wouldn't call it a ritual but the only thing that I consistently do before games is take a nap; Wear a suit, because every game is a special occasion to me; and blast some praise and worship in my truck on they way to the stadium and in my headphones in the locker-room.

Captain Zombie called upon all his powers to navigate his ship through angry seas. He was only a half day from reaching land, and his ship, full of priceless ostrich feathers was getting wetter by the wave. Zombie knew that if he took on much more water they would go down like a ship of wet feathers! Captain Zombie thought back to the many calculations he had made when loading the ship so that he would be ready if such a situation arose. Now that it had, he desparately tried to remember what he had concluded. (He has a pint or two of Bushnell's, don'tcha know.). Would a ton of wet ostrich feathers weigh the ship down that much more than a ton of dry ostrich feathers?

jmmcclain left the "Soul-Ace Hotel" and walked to the parking lot. Without the benefit of moonlight or any artificial light, he was able to spot his black car 100 meters away. How was this possible.

Though technically, moonlight and sunlight are the same thing, since moonlight is just the sun's light reflected.

had to hustle, my back to the wall, ashy knuckles
Pockets filled with a lot of lint, not a cent
Gotta vent, lot of innocent of lives lost on the project bench
Whatchu hollerin? Gotta pay rent, bring dollars in
By the bodega, iron under my coat, feelin braver
Doo-rag wrappin my waves up, pockets full of hope
Do not step to me - I'm awkward, I box leftier often
My pops left me an orphan, my momma wasn't home
Could not stress to me I wasn't grown; 'specially on nights
I brought somethin home to quiet the stomach rumblings
My demeanor - thirty years my senior
My childhood didn't mean much, only raisin green up
Raisin my fingers to critics; raisin my head to the sky
Big I did it - multi before I die
No lie, just know I chose my own fate
I drove by the fork in the road and went straight

here's a brain teaser. (http://takuhn.homeip.net/psychic.swf)

can anyone figure out how it works?

only the numbers 2,9, 18, 21, 27, 36, 45, 54, 55, 63, 72, 81, and 86 are possible answers. If you notice, all these correspond to the same symbol. when you click "try again" the symbols for those numbers change, but all stay the same. the program simply outputs the symbol that corresponds to the possible answers at that given time.

Super Barry owns a vacation house in Northern Ontario which has an A-shaped roof. One side of the roof faces north and the other side faces south. The prevailing winds from the north are usually quite strong. The strange thing is that the stronger the wind blows, the stronger the resulting updraft on the south side of the roof. Therefore, if a rooster was to lay an egg on the peak of the roof during a strong northernly wind, on which side should the egg fall most of the time?

Man, is it warm in here or is it just me?

Not that any of you would know, seeing as how you're all far too intelligent to live in Norwood, or as we affectionately refer to it : "Nor-Hood."
