Just got off the phone with some friends of mine, who were supposed to come pick me up last night so we could go out and watch the game... the conversation went something like this:

"Well, sorry we didn't come over or even call you last night to tell you what was going on, but did you know that your ex is in town? Yeah, ran into her around 11 yesterday morning and we went out to the observatory, had lunch, were hanging out... well, we were having such a good time hanging out with her that we decided to watch the game with her, and figured you wouldn't want to be there."

Traitors.

Just went out an bought an iPod.

The guy at the store couldn't believe I didn't want to pay an extra $60 for the warranty. He pushed me so hard after saying no several times that if he would have asked one more time I would have walked out the door, walked two doors down to Best Buy and bought it there. Thos things are colossal rip-offs.

I read an article in Business Week a couple of weeks ago about extended warranties and they seem like nothing more than a racket to me. These companies pay small amounts for for insurance and then usually mark it up 4 or 5 times at no risk to them at all. It's pure cash. In this instance, CompUSA probably pays $10-$15 for a policy and then charge me $60.

What they don't understand is that I'm a stat geek. The iPod cost me $300. the "Apple Care" service would replace my iPod or repair it no questions asked for 2 years (only 1 year lonfer than the warranty) even if it breaks from me dropping it. But you also get unlimited phone support. Because the iPod cost $300 new, there would have to be a 20% chance of something happening to this thing within two years that would casue me to have to replace it for the warranty to worth the value. Even if the average service repair price is $100 (including replacement and any other potential repair), there would have to be a 6% chance of that happening for it to be worth the price.

I'll never go back to that store again. There's few things I despise worse than a sales person pushing and pushing you to buy a warranty and not accepting no for an answer. That's why I like Best Buy and where I should have gone to begin with. They simply ask you if you want it when you'e hecking out and if you say no they don't puch any further.

Considering our property taxes are due in about a week, we're going to be struggling to pay all 3 of those tickets.

I got a lot of speeding tickets when I was in college. I simply could not drive the speed limit (55 mph) on Route 32 to and from Athens. There was never anyone on the road, and it's a pretty boring drive. They eventually upped the speed limit, which was nice.

That's the only place I've ever had a speeding ticket (so far), Route 32. I've been pulled over once or twice in other places, but got off with warnings.

I did learn, however, that if you have a couple speeding tickets and a couple accidents within a year's time span, the insurance company does not like you anymore. Even if you WERE NOT EVEN IN YOUR CAR any of the times it was hit. Grr.

Remind me to stay away from your dad when I'm on the road.

My dad's clean driving record has come in handy as he just got a job driving a bus for the local schools. It actually works out well because he found himself unemplyed for the first time in his life this past fall. He decided to start a company with a few of his life long friends where they buy houses, fix them up and sell them. my brother is a real estate attorney who does all the legal work and has access to foreclosures and auctions, etc... which is what they're focusing on. My dad does most of the repair work. They try to turn a house over every 2 to 3 months. They're on their second house already and made a pretty good profit on the first. This allows him the time to work on the houses, yet still have a steady, albeit small, income and benefits.

Just sayin'

DG, you go to your User CP. Over on the left, near the bottom, click on Buddy/Ignore Lists. Type the user name.
Thanks Creek!
When someone is on ignore... they can't see what you write and I can see what they write?
Right?

Should I take that as a "yes" because that is the reaction from most of the guys that see Hot Bartender Girl.

No, you can't see what they write, unless you choose to. They can see what you write. Unless they ignore you too.

DG, I am sorry about you and Craig.

But over the last five days, I've watched Seasons 1 and 2 of Sex and the City. And if there is anything to be learned from that show, it is this (take your pick):

1. Most men are the suck.
2. Another man will come along soon.
3. You are fabulous, and if a man can't see that, he sucks.
4. Shoes, especially high heels, are fabulous.
5. Miranda (a lawyer who works days) ends up with Steve (a bartender who works nights). It just took them a while to figure it out. Well, the kid kinda pushed them along too. ;)

Here's the revised version
1 applies, if you ask them the first time
2 of course applies, same goes with women
3 sometimes applies
4 always applies
5 You are going to be so disappointed.

And I think my kids have both my wife and I on theirs.

However, having the dog spirit she has, she is ever hopeful that someday it will make sense.

So she keeps listening.

Hey if things are meant to be, you'll still talk and keep in touch, and they'll work out at a different time.

I might have mentioned this before, but I dated my wife when I was a sophmore in college. We broke up, and both dated other people for almost 2 years. In fact, I was thinking about getting engaged to that "other girl" (thank God I didn't), but then we broke up. My wife broke up with her boyfriend about 2 weeks after I broke up with my girlfriend....and there we were, both available and we still had feelings for each other. It just worked out. So, if things are meant to be, they'll work out sometime.

She says she is 6', but I think its a lie ;)

I have at least a good 5 inches on her...

I think I could probably marry a midget and still have tall kids.

I use to use it when it was free...and illegal.

Was thinking about just spending the $15/month to download as many songs as I wanted and wanted to know if anyone used Napster and what they thought about it.

Had I been one of the first 1000 to sign up for it and get a free iRiver, I would be right now.

Instead, I'm still a Rhapsody subscriber. If napster is anything like that, you'll never miss the days of P2P.

I realized that I am the grandpa in the slow lane of the Technological SuperHighway when you posted this. I had never heard of "iRiver" before you mentioned it. There are many, many things I see at Best Buy these days that I think "man, that's cool, I wonder how you'd use that?"

See I won't be able to tell exactly where it is, so I'll have to call EVERYTHING a strike.

If you have a nice big strike zone, it's easy to see and know if it misses.
