My wife got a new work car today. She had a 2003 Chevy Impala, and traded it for a 2003 Grand Caravan. The Grand Caravan has 55,000 miles on it. Her Impala had 32,000 miles on it. Why would she do that? At her company, when you reach 60,000 miles you get to order a new vehicle. So in 5,000 miles she'll get a 2005 Chrysler Pacifica. Man, I wish I had perks like that in my job.

It was crazy. We flew to DC shortly after and went to the 9/11 tribute at the Pentagon. I was literally less than an arms length away from Bill and Hillary. They closed off all of the roads around the Pentagon with tanks and armed Hummers as well as helicopters. Such a weird day.

Too many Mikes!

Which is why I go by Quentin; well, not because Rosie dated me, but because I moved into an apt @ OSU with four other guys all named Mike, so we went by nicknames and middle names. My middle name is Quentin. My family still calls me Mike, as do my employers and other people whom I must deal with in psuedo-official settings.

Hmmmm .... careers.

Wanted to be a forest ranger/ park management ...... something outside. No jobs in the field. High School guidance counselor guided me away.

Went into Veterinary Technology and did that for awhile. Bumbled into molecular biology through a hiring freeze and gave it a whirl. Started doing more biochemistry. Realized I was pretty good at it and people recruited me over the years. Work in biochemistry, and still liking it very much. Not too bad for pulling myself up by the bootstraps in a field I didn't study. Nothing more satisfying than proposing a hypothesis and proving it right or wrong. Closing doors opens more.

Sometimes wish the path led me into field biology. Sometimes wish I stuck to my guns and went into forestry, although can't imagine doing that work in my older years. Sometimes simply wish I could be outdoors.

Good topic. My famous person I went to high school with was Tim Green. Footballer, lawyer and author ....... and welcome to keep his shoes under my bed anytime. Ooops, did I say that last part out loud?

Liverpool High - i know people who went there.

By the way, I cannot stand Tim Green - really dislike him immensely. Played basketball against him and heard stories about him (like he went to a party with a group of people on the wrestling team at Liverpool, then the next day he told their wrestling coach that the wrestlers had been drinking the night before)

Just thought I'd share :)

Hi Puffy!

Before I say anything (to myself or otherwise), is the one who shall not be named an accountant? Because someone else recently said something about being an accountant, and it was not the one who shall not be named.

If that makes sense. :)

OK - yes, I saw what/who you were talking about and I believe that was paulrichjr, and him I have no problem with.

He who shall not be named who is an accountant which proves he is smart and has to mention his profession at least once a week is the author of a thread with a very appropriate title of what I feel towards he who shall not be named

Good pickup though!

OK, I fought it, I tried, but I can't resist any more.

Its 9:45 CST and I have to have a beer - after yesterday I figured I would just drink some diet pepsi while watching football and then Hellboy. But I have no DP in the house, so I'm gonna have to crack a Yuengling Black and Tan.

I tried to be good, I really did

Hey Puffmeister. Just sittin' in a hotel room outside Atlanta. Heading down to south Georgia tomorrow through Monday, at which time I'm heading out to stay in front of Ivan the Terrible.

I've given up on trying to catch up on the gazillion posts on this juggernaught. I just try to scan what I can and hope to run across a funny post or two along the way.

You better not take Ivan lightly, dude. It's got the panhandle in it's sights, and this one could be much worse than the other two.

At Hooters yesterday I was talking to somebody from Southern Georgia and he said that Frances nailed them good, and that Atlanta is still mostly out of power.

You must be real busy with these three storms and now possibly a fourth with Ivan. I guess thats good and bad - good for job security, but for all the traveling!

Thanks for the thoughts - if Ivan comes this way I will probably head over to New Orleans, I know I will be evacuated, and what better place to waste time then the Big Easy!

It very well could. Here's the latest NOAA projections, and a very small variance could move it right into Tampa. Either way, the extreme winds extend for miles from the eye-wall. I wouldn't stay in Tampa, personally. I've met a lot of people who attended one hurricane party, but I've never met anyone who went to two, if the first one was at ground zero.

I think its still too early to tell, but Tampa is a real strong possiblility right now. I don't think we'll really know til late Sunday or even Monday.

Whoa it's back up to a Category 5.

I definitely know what you mean RFS - Isabel was a 2 when it made landfall, and I was 120 miles from ground zero, and I still felt really strong wind. I am going to have to call my grandparents tomorrow - they're somewhat stubborn and my grandma is sick. I just don't think this thing should be messed with at all.

One of our TV meteorologists here is convinced that the track maps are wrong and it's going to take a 90-degree right turn in the gulf and make landfall south of Tampa. There's apparently a low pressure area over Louisiana that he thinks will shunt it that direction. We'll see.

Well, after an extremely stressful night at work*, I got home around 3 a.m., looking forward to relaxing for a few hours before bed. But NO, one of my neighbors has been partying -- alone? with one other person? 10 people? I have no idea -- since about 4 a.m. The music is still going loud and strong, and it's approaching 6 a.m!

They're lucky I'm exhausted and don't have the energy to call the police. Or even the apartment manager, for that matter. Plus, I'd rather them be loud late at night/early morning when I'm still awake, instead of at 10 a.m. when I'm actually asleep.

On a related note, about 4:30 a.m. I could have sworn I heard someone right outside my window, in all the shrubbery and bushes. It could have been an animal (so I keep telling myself) ... but I'd like to know this: Red Leader, where were you at 4:30 a.m.? ;)

Also, I think something is wrong with my baby. (Baby=kitty.) Her eyes are swollen half shut. :( Poor baby.

*Though it had nothing to do with me, my sincerest apologies to those who live in Ohio and may have been expecting Ohio high school football stories in your paper. Hope you like Kentucky too.

Hmmmm ....

Move your lab outdoors :D

Liverpool High - i know people who went there.

By the way, I cannot stand Tim Green - really dislike him immensely. Played basketball against him and heard stories about him (like he went to a party with a group of people on the wrestling team at Liverpool, then the next day he told their wrestling coach that the wrestlers had been drinking the night before)

Just thought I'd share :)
