BTW the papers are in the 4 Way Street Album.
Recent true story...

Roy was extolling the virtues of Duane Allman's slide work in "One Way Out" on the Allman Bros. "Eat a Peach" to son Zach. Since he didn't have the CD, he dug out the album from the boxes in the basement.

Opened the album up and out rolled some seeds and stems with a few stray leaf fragments with that distinctive herbal smell (and I don't mean Rosie's soap).

Roy just shrugged and gave a little nervous heh-heh.

you guys kill me with your "forward" thinking.

When a rocket launches, the thousands of little parts inside are subject to all kinds of vibration from the propulsion that shoots it upward.

A piece the size of an M&M breaking off could destroy an entire mission by bouncing around at high speeds shattering and rupturing everything in site.

So everything, and I do mean everything, gets put in a huge box and shaken to high hell, much worse than you'd encounter in mission settings.

It's a box about the size of school bus, and it's in a huge sound contained room because it's hella loud.

Nothing dirty about it :p:

I'm gonna have leftover Pizza for lunch. I ordered a pie last night after the whole accident fiasco, and now I have leftover pizza to look forward to. You gotta love $13 for a pizza and getting three meals out of it. Of course I remember 15 years ago when pies were $7, but I digress.

I hate shaving, but any girl I date, etc., has to shave the legs, under arms, you know, else I get the willies. I suck, I know, but thats me.

Rosie, if you're sick you're sick. That's why you have sick days. Don't feel guilty. When I broke my ankle I did it the week before classes started and I missed two our busier weeks. I felt bad but what are you gonna do? If you go in and infect other people, they might get sick and then they'll be even more shorthanded.

The Teamster weekend mission: To assemble a Teamster scarecrow family for the front bench. Orders from the littlest Teamster - to find clothes for our respective scarecrow.

When asked if we need to make scarecrow cats for Tia and Ling, he looked at Mom like she was nuts and said, "No Mommy, cats don't have clothes!"

He's at that age where he learns stuff that we haven't taught him, and leaves me scratching my head. He was telling me how the biggest birds in the world were condors. Not sure where he got that, but it cracked me up. Took him down to the creek afterward to show him fossils. He was more interested in why the water was all gone and that we couldn't build a dam. It's fun having someone to play in the mud with. :)

But I can feel better about spending my leisure time on other pursuits that are more emotionally satisfying - I don't know why, but when I read a book or do some painting or writing or whatever I feel better, like almost in a spiritual sense, then I do if I spend hours plopped down on the couch watching television or playing videogames.

Another busy weekend...

Working the concession stands at the MHS football game tonight. It's Homecoming so there should be a big crowd. I'll be schlepping the pop/water/Gatorade in my trusty cart. That is some serious labor. Advil and Budweiser after the ballgame (yeah, I know you're not supposed to mix them but just this one time...)

My middle daughter has a soccer tournament over in Indiana (Nightmare at the Rock in Center Grove). We'll be driving over tomorrow AM, 2 games tomorrow, stay in a hotel, the girls have a blast hanging out, monopolize the indoor pool, we get a party room in the hotel, parents bring adult beverages, have a stack of pizzas delivered, and have a good time. Then another game on Sunday. Drive back Sunday PM. Since we're playing a bunch of premier teams, we'll probably get killed (we're just a B team) but it should be fun.

Things are not boring with a team full of 13-14 yr. old girls, none of which are shrinking violets. It gets kinda wild.

Have fun Roy :)

I think the appeal of this thread is basically the reason I keep coming to Redszone.

It's fun to hang out with people you like.

Everyone here has opinions on all the different things that are being argued about on the other threads, we just don't want the ill will that seems to permeate those threads in here.

This is our happy place.

I'm just now getting caught up on posts from the last week or so when I was on the road. I must say that Creek and Roy provide excellent adult supervision for this thread. You youngin's better listen to their advice. Those two have lived very interesting lives, and the stuff they're telling you now is excellent, excellent advice.

Zombie, you're a brave and solid man. Not a dude anymore, you're a man now, with the thoughts and emotions you're going through now and the way you're reacting to life altering changes in your path. I'm just sayin'.

Roy Roy Roy....

What would your kids say? ;)

That show is my life.

The quality of fantasy TV from 64-70 is amazing and an attempt to mask the domestic and war problems in America, in a manner that has never been matched.

Compare the TV during that era to todays law and forensic orgies nightly sandwiched between car wreck lives and staged reality situations that autamatically become "unreal" once the 4th wall is broken and that pig and Eb look pretty good, not as good as Captain Nice or My Mother the Car though.

One thing is for sure Mr. Haney would have been shot if he really existed.

OK, I know some of you who read this thread smoke, but I'm going to gripe about this anyway.

One of my co-workers is a feverent smoker, he smokes at least once an hour, every hour, without fail. I know this because he has to go by my cube, which is in a corner, when he returns to his desk. He always stops by to check my workload, he's a senior member of my dept and I'm just an associate, so he always stops by to check my workload and see how I'm doing. And he makes small talk. All of the time. If you don't know this, to people who don't smoke, when you do smoke a lot, you stink.

And when he comes into my cube, he brings with him an invisible cloud that lingers for sometimes 10 minutes, of smoke.

It's gotten so bad, the smell of smoke when he comes into my cube, that I am bordering on being rude to him when he stops by. I don't stop working, i'm cordial but I keep working whenever I see or hear him coming.

It's just a gripe, but one I'm getting sick of. Every day, just makes me irriated knowing that I'm going to have to smell smoke aftertaste several times a day.

ok - rant over.

Uncle Charley from My Three Sons was a stock player in the great Preston Sturgis screwball comedies.

Three Great Mystery's in TV History.

#1 Why didn't Mike from "My 3 Sons" ever come back and visit? Was he afraid of Ernie?

The interesting thing about a lot of those 60s TV shows is they told the story of the show during the theme. Gilligan's Island was a prime example. A lot of these "rural" shows were on CBS. They all did very well in the ratings but by the late 60s the CBS execs saw that most of the people watching those shows were starting to get older and a lot of those people lived in smaller towns and the country. Times were changing too and the country was ready for more shows with an edge. So CBS basically decided to, as some have said, cancel every show with a tree in it. So goodbye Petticoat Junction, goodbye Beverly Hillbillies, goodbye Green Acres, goodbye Mayberry RFD, goodbye Gomer Pyle.

Interesting note about Petticoat Junction. The head of CBS at the time Jim Aubrey had an interesting programming philosophy. An aide was fired once when Aubrey's memo got into the hands of the press. In essence, the memo said that Aubrey was dissatisfied with some female casting and wanted "bigger (breasts)".

I take two elevators at work now. Two levels down in the parking garage, and up to the 14th (really 13th) floor of the office bldg.

A few comments on our new office:

The commute is not as bad as I thought it would be. Lots of traffic lights; TWO intersections ranked among the most dangerous in the country; there's an awful glare on a sunny day that's almost blinding. BUT the lights are mostly synchronized. Unless I get behind a slow moving truck or something, I make pretty good time, all things considered.

And I don't weave in and out of traffic, race through lights, etc.

I have to park on level 4, 5, or 6 in the parking garage. I've decided to ALWAYS park on level 5 so I won't forget where I am. If I forget, I'll just think Johnny Bench.

The new building has a concierge ... for anyone in the bldg to use.

ATF has an office in the building.

So does a dermatologist. I needed to see a dermatologist, and he was on my health plan, so I made a 10:40 appt. I dealt with two skin problems, had a growth above my eye cut off, ate at the coffee shop downstairs, and made it back to work for noon. Monday the stitches come out. Kind of convenient.

There's a great view of the 17th Street Canal and Lake Pontchartrain from our office. Kind of hard to ignore it, since the office is surrounded by glass.

They have a cop direct traffic after work. Imagine a 17 story office building at 5pm emptying onto a small two lane street (one in each direction.) Only exit from the lot. Takes about 20 minutes to get out of the parking garage.

All in all, it could be a lot worse. I like the fact that I don't have to keep an umbrella at my desk anymore.

I live at home now, but man TC, do I miss some stuff on your list from my time in NY!! Salt potatoes ... I loved those. Helluva Good was good. The commercials cracked me up. I also miss Wegman's, particularly their take-out section. I don't know why, but I can't duplicate their pasta for anything, and I loved it. Some olive oil and garlic, marinara, pasta and parmesan ... so, so good. I miss all the easy access to LaBatt too. And I miss all the good bagel shops.

I miss being close to Canada, and to NYC, and closer to the ocean. I really miss the scenery of Ithaca. I'm so glad I always took advantage of all the waterfalls and gorges and swimming holes, including Cayuga Lake. We were out in one or the other nearly every day in the summer. I also miss outdoor ice skating (Fountain Square just ain't the same), and I miss some things about winter. Like going snow shoeing ... to the local theater when there was two feet of snow and we couldn't drive there.

I even miss the people of upstate New York. So many good souls. So many characters in Ithaca. It's a small town, but rarely dull. I used to think I'd live there again one day, but it'd be hard to leave my family.

I don't miss the mass quantities of snow, that's for sure. It cracks me up now when it snows a couple inches here and everything is cancelled. Wusses! Things aren't cancelled until snow is measured in feet! I also don't miss the DMV. ;)
