Roby Dies

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Sports Network) - Former All-Pro punter Reggie Roby died Tuesday at the age of 43.

The Miami Dolphins (news), whom Roby spent 10 of his 16 NFL seasons, confirmed his passing on their Web site, but the cause of death is unknown.

Roby was reportedly found unconscious and without a pulse this morning by his wife in the couple's Nashville home. He was immediately taken to the Saint Thomas Emergency Department where he was pronounced dead at 8:35 a.m. EST.

Very sad. There used to be a time in my life... if someone said NFL punter, Reggie Roby immediately came to mind.

Yep, me too. At one time it was Ray Guy that came to mind, then later it was Reggie Roby. Odd habit that he had was that he always wore a watch on field.

Incidentally he was a very good high school pitcher and was drafted by our beloved Cincinnati Reds.

Not sure if thats in the article or not though.

Roby played football and baseball at Waterloo East High School and was promising enough as a pitcher to get drafted by the Cincinnati Reds. But he was swayed by Hayden Fry's pitch to help in the rebuilding effort at Iowa and joined the Hawkeyes in 1979, Fry's first season.
