Mandalay Bay, with the exception of maybe the Shark's Reef, is not really a kid friendly place.

And the Shark's reef is done very well and quite in-depth, albeit a little expensive.

In fact, these days, with the exception of Excalibur and Circus Circus, most Vegas resorts aren't geared towards kids anymore, so you are really only overrun with midgets if you stay at those two.

Mandalay is weird because the theme is "Asian Tropical" so that leaves a wide brush to design, so the settup sometimes is a little weird.

There is a Russian Bar near the parking garage entrance, that is just wild, and at times downright creepy. They've taken tokens and faux Kremlin-era relics and done up an entire bar that way. Walking around in a place filled with Hammer and Sickle flags and Lenin statues is very, very eerie but it seems to work.

It's way down at the end of the strip though, you'll need to take the shuttle up to the Excalibur & Luxor if you want to leave, or drive/take a taxi. It's much to far to walk anywhere from that location.

The pools are nuts, just like the Trops, they put a ton of money into them, you can tell. They have a huge range of them all over the back lot of Mandalay.

The best part about Mandalay Bay is the House of Blues. They also have a cool sports memorabilia store. Mandalay Bay is connected to Luxor and Excaliber by walkway and an elevated monorail that comes by every two minutes or so.
