Tonight's starting pitchers

Wilson, 1-1 24ip and a 5.63 era, with a huge .320 baa

Prior, 2-0 13ip 0.00 era, only 1 unearned run allowed so far, and a .167 baa.

Prior last faced the Reds on April 19th and went 7 innings and k'd 6 Reds.

I just hope and pray that the baseball gods will shine upon Miley tonight and convince him not to hit Griffey and Casey in the 2-3 hole. It seems like Casey is working out of his slump, but Griffey looks like he is swinging in slow motion and is chasing any piece of junk breaking ball that is thrown up there lately

I live near Chicago and the wind is just howling, probably around 30 mph. Its cool out so i think that means the wind will be blowing in, so this should be a pitchers duel. So if I was Miley I would play DLO,Freel, and Lopez to see if we can manufacture some runs.

Last week when the Reds faced Prior they were crushing the ball the first two innings. Hairston robbed Griffey and Casey of extra bases and a few other balls were line outs. Then he fell into a groove. It would be nice to get to him early tonite with 3-4 runs.

Eric_Davis

In Prior's career, he's struggled against #6 hitters more than any other hitter. Should be interesting to see if Kearns goes long on him, especially with a runner on base.

Which direction is it heading? Into the hitters?

Eric_Davis
04-25-2005, 07:22 PM
Hitters are the most successful against Prior over his career when the count is 0-0 rather than any other count, including 2-0, and 3-0.

Hitters have a 1.016 career OPS against Prior when they make contact with an 0-0 pitch.

The best count to swing against Prior is the first pitch.

I couldn't agree more.

When I looked at the lineup tonight and once again saw Randa in the clean-up slot, I actually felt a physical wave of anger. If he was still knocking the cover off the ball, fine.... but he's not, and hasn't been for several games now.

It's just damned foolish!

Good link for today's game:

http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/gameTrax?gameId=250425116

I like the comment they have:

Joe Randa went 0-for-4 today and is in a 1-for-22 slump. It's time to push Randa back down to the sixth spot in the order. He's batting .231 with four RBI in 11 games as a cleanup hitter.

Eric_Davis
04-25-2005, 07:46 PM
Defensively, for the Cubs, Ramirez has three errors, C-Barrett has two errors, and Burnitz has two errors.

Should get at least one unearned run out of this group.

Elam

Doesn't it just make ya crazy that no one on the coaching staff seems to be paying any attention to this (and other numbers), except when it suits them to defend why they put someone in the game (or take others out)?

I just sit here and keep shaking my head, because it makes absolutely no sense and has probably cost the Reds games because of it.

I hope the end of this nonsense is near.

From Fox Sports:

"Ken Griffey Jr. - #30 - Center Field - 6'3" - 218lbs
Sat Apr 23 2005 - Ken Griffey Jr. went 0-for-5 with two strikeouts tonight to drop his average to .216. We appreiciate that Wily Mo Pena has to be in the lineup while he's hot, but does Austin Kearns always have to be the one who sits? Griffey and Sean Casey have yet to do a thing and should at least be dropped in the lineup until they put some runs on the board."
