Lopez needs to start hiding in Miley's backyard with a camera and hope that Gapper comes over for some backrubs or something. It's the only way he's getting into the lineup regularly.

I had an '79(?) Chevette that I bought for $150 back in 1991. Ran pretty good for about a year or so. Was thinking how great it was running, when all of the sudden I saw parts bouncing down the road behind me.

In other words, probably not. I might change my outlook a bit if they totally shut down the Cards (allowing only a run or two in all games and K'ing Jim Edmonds at every turn), but otherwise not.

They could still be a lot of fun to watch if the offense gets going, but the pitching is still looking like a Chevette.

This makes me think of something Bill James said about being a fan of the Royals(from an article WOY posted), where he just watches each game for itself and tries not to think about the ones before or after. I sort of feel that way about the Reds these days. I know they'd be lucky to finish third and so I just focus on individual games and players rather than hoping for a post-season.

Thou art as splashy in cardinal red as the day is long.
From whence thou runneth from your centerfield position,
Gracefully, leaping majestically, diving fruitfully,
For the sagging line drive of glorious life.

Slashing thou baseball, like the lumberjack in the forest
Penetrates the majestic wood. With a mighty swing,
Thee Jim Edmonds, handsome as a California raisin,
In the glaring sun of glorious life, Jim Edmonds! Give joy to thee!

Traipsing through the outfield, his radiant plume to see,

To thee we honor thy grace, thou sweet Jimmy Edmonds,
For you give life to baseball, and your lustful dives gives life to thee.
