Do we dare watch? Let's hope that we have 15+ lead when the bullpen comes in because otherwise it could get ugly (as we saw yesterday).

Matchup:

Harang
1-1 4.30 ERA

Marquis
3-1 3.27 ERA

Here's to Harang ending our 5 game losing streak! :beerme:

If Harang keeps the ball down and throws inside to batters than he should have a good outing. I just hope he can go at least 6 innings but I would prefer 7 or 8 innings.

I hope for nine since we don't seem to have a bullpen except for maybe Wagner. :(

Here's to Harang ending our 5 game losing streak! :beerme:

Harang's one loss this year? April 12 @ St. Louis Cardinals...
6IP, 5ER, 2K, 3BB, 2HRA.

Change is good though. Time for something to change for the REDS.

Aaron Harang, 2004 vs. Cardinals...
2GS, 14IP, 9H, 3ER, 12K, 3BB, 0HRA, 1.93 ERA, 0.86 WHIP.
> Includes a 1-0 CG shutout win on Aug. 26.

I hate to say it, but bring back a memory of last season for us, Aaron. Like Aug. 26, 2004. Except we'd like a 10-0 CG shutout win.

If we can somehow get the next two, or even one of the next two, it will show that if anything, this team has a lot of guts, if not talent. Last night's loss is the kind of loss that can kill a season. They need to bounce back quickly or they may be done. Let's all give good vibes to the Reds tonight!

I can understand giving Randa the day off, but why is Pena not playing? I read his muscle is still tight and he has to ice every two innings, but the man's bat is on fire. LaRue has really cooled off from a hot start. And D-lo is still crap. Just trade or release the guy already.. there has to be some team desprate for a 2B by now. But better in the 7th spot than leading off... he had more production there last year.

releasing DJ serves no purpose. Starting Freel isn't a bad option at all, but releasing Jimenez would force us to eat the 3M we owe him which is not neccessary. He will eventually come around so at worst he should be a valuable bench player. Even though he is not hitting he is in no such danger of being released.

True, nothing among his arsenal is able to get hitters out consistantly and especially the second time through the lineup, neither is his fastball overpowering. He really has to change speeds well to accomplish a QS.

I'll take Aurilia's ability to make 99% of all easy plays over Lopez's heart stopping attempts at a routine ground ball. If a major league player cannot make a throw to first on a consistant basis by now, why would he get more playing time?

(I'm playing devil's advocate now because I believe that Lopez should be playing due to the fact that I think he'll hit a little better {and could be the future, but you don't know till he plays everyday}, but in essence, I think it's a wash between the two.)

Lopez's throws will improve with more experience. Unfortunately, he's not getting that experience by riding the pine. He needs to play everyday.

He's been playing baseball all of his life. He's 24 or 25 years old. How much more experience does he need? If you're talking about seeing major league pitching, or even fielding, I'd agree, but when you're talking about throwing the ball from short stop to first base, well, he's been doing that all of his life, and it isn't much different from knothole to the majors.

Agreed, except that Lopez doesn't really have trouble fielding, he has trouble throwing.

Again, I don't want to defend Aurilia too much here, because I think Lopez should be getting the starts. However I'm not giving Lopez a free pass either. He has a flaw in his game historically, and hopefully, it will improve. I'm just of the opinion that it won't.
