Is it me or do we get all the best pitchers? More so than anybody in the NL.

Well we don't get to face the Reds staff, so that takes 5 of the potential bottom pitchers out already.

Every other team has an Ace, some have two, the Cubs, Braves, and Marlins have three. To balance this out we have Paul Wilson.

I'm tired of whining about Wily Mo not being there, so other than that, I think the lineups getting a little better, no Aurillia, D'Angelo. We're gonna get em today, Derrick Lowe's gonna wish he was in Boston by the third inning.

CincyRedsFan30

We certainly do seem to get a lot of good pitchers, but that doesn't seem to matter, as our pitching has been so bad it would be a in a battle against Jimmy Haynes.

WMP reinjured his quad the other day, he'll probably go on the DL if he doesn't improve this weekend.

Wily Mo Pena is back on the bench after his quadriceps was reinjured. The DL is possible …

This was also within the "Reds Notes" I posted on the board earlier this morning:

Pena still down

Wily Mo Pena's return to the lineup remains an enigma wrapped in a mystery, or wrapped inside the wrap he is wearing on his left quadriceps.

"We're calling it a mild strain," said trainer Mark Mann. "He said he felt good (Sunday) in Milwaukee, but he hit a grounder and had to run and he felt a twinge."

Pena remains unavailable for anything but pinch-hitting, "And if he gets on we have to pinch-run for him," said manager Dave Miley.

Pena reports early every day for treatment and said, "When I can return, I don't know. I can't run full, that's the thing. I can jog, but I don't want people to say, 'He doesn't hustle.' When I play I want to play as hard as I can

Is Ortiz really throwing 96 MPH fastballs like it says on CBS?

Dan O'Brien and company take note....THAT is how you pitch to contact

flynn78
05-07-2005, 01:35 PM
1-2-3 go the Reds as the Lowe sinker induces a groundout by Freel to second, Lopez flies to left, and Casey bounces to first.

Golgafrinchan
05-07-2005, 01:37 PM
Wow. Ortiz is throwing 95 according to the gun. I haven't seen him throwing that hard since his early days in Anaheim.

flynn78
05-07-2005, 01:38 PM
I think it is possible that the Reds staff has misunderstood pitching to contact. They have been pitching lately like they have a clause in their contracts about about combined distance of the contact. ;)

1-2-3 for the Reds. Good inning Ortiz. Reds nothing and the Dodgers likewise as the Reds head to the bat rack for their second crack at Derek Lowe.

Could this be the start of a turn around for the Reds? I mean, yeah, they're horrible right now, but it seems to me that everyone is underperforming, with the exception of Dunn and Randa who are around career norms. Could the offense be waking up? Will a halfway decent outing (by recent standards) kick start the pitching staff? We'll see. BTW, Here's to Lopez winning the starting job. (finally.)

Aside from the homer, that inning had a lot of what I love about baseball. Everyone put the ball in play that inning. Even Freel's out was productive, advancing the runner. Casey going first to third on a hit to right, and then the timely nature of the hits. That's the kind of baseball that gets me excited. Home runs are like the icing on the cake.

OldRightHander
05-07-2005, 03:17 PM
Beautiful run there, double, sac bunt, and a grounder to score the run. They need to keep doing the little things right so they can score without having to wait for someone to go deep. Those are the things the good offenses do well, score with the long ball and with small ball, instead of being one dimensional.

The good news for Freel and Jimenez is that since Pena might be headed for the DL, they should both be able to play.

To me it's painfully obvious that if Pena goes to the DL, Freel should be in right, Jimenez and 2nd, and Lopez at SS. I have a bad feeling that we'll be seeing too much of Aurilia, and Jimenez and Lopez fighting for PT at 2nd.

Freel's had a couple hits, a couple bunts (although he got out on one of them) and an rbi. That's a pretty good day by anyone's standard. He really adds an extra dimension this offense is missing without him.

weird how Lowe blew up, or how we just started hitting him all the sudden, he was owning us all day.

So they should fire Miley. New manager of the Cincinnati Reds: The Redszone council. We could all sit at a big round table before games.

That's already in the works. You need 500 rep points to sit at that table though.

Nice and painless, quick bottom of the 9th

I don't know if I can handle those ;)

Amazing how fast the 9th inning goes when Danny isn't in there.

Freel's had a couple hits, a couple bunts (although he got out on one of them) and an rbi. That's a pretty good day by anyone's standard. He really adds an extra dimension this offense is missing without him.

Freel only with one hit. He had 2 bad bunts; he got a fielder's choice on the last one.

Only one hit? Maybe I got mixed up on one of the singles somewhere. Either way, it was a nice game, a long time coming.

If she didn't leave 800 miles away and root for the yankees, I sure would ;)

I think I could handle my mother living 800 miles away easier than I could handle her being a Yankee fan. She had me at the last game at Crosley and the first game at Riverfront, both of them in diapers, and at the '76 Series. She raised me right.
