Go 0-6 and get raised up in the batting order. Defies any logic.

Terry Pendleton 1997 Reds .248/.320/.354 - 113 ab's - Cut in July

Rich Aurilia 2005 Reds .202/.232/.362 - 94 ab's - moved up in the order in the midst of a 1-10 showing over the last week and a half.

Reds/Flyers Fan

Hal McCoy was on with Marty in the top of the second:

McCoy said he was shocked that Aurilia was in the lineup, hitting .200 and not playing well. Said he talked to Freel before the game and Freel was also "stunned."

Said there is even some talk among the players that Miley is being forced to play Aurilia. Also said some players think Miley may be managing not to lose than to win.

Marty said he never could have imagined that this team would be 11-20 at this point. McCoy said its the way that this team loses ballgames that has surprised him.

Marty said that there was an interesting meeting in Miley's office today...Miley, O'Brien, Randa and Casey behind closed doors for about an hour around 4 p.m. this afternoon.

McCoy said Miley told him that the meeting was to make sure that "everybody was on the same page."

The whole Aurilia thing has got to be a embarrasement among the players and coaches. They know the guy stinks but "somebody" really likes him and since he is "the boss", he has to play.

Claussen needs to begin searching for a new career path IMO.

If Miley is being forced to play Rich Aurilia, as McCoy said is being discussed in the clubhouse, this club is in much worse shape than I thought. That is absolutely unbelievable that DanO is telling the manager who to play.

And if players are starting to complain about this, it could get real ugly.

Tony Cloninger
05-10-2005, 07:38 PM
If what Hal's says is true.....then basically DO has incredible gall and feels like the people running this team (Linder) will let him get away with anything.

I just cannot believe this is true......beacuse it also means Allen has no power in regards to this situation. Not to get more confusing then my previous post....but JA did not want DO...who did not want DM.

DO sabotages? DM ...he gets fired and then Allen leaves or gets fired also?

Is DO ...Rasputin??

I think OBrien is terrible at his job, and never should have been hired in the first place. I think he should be fired yesterday and replaced (If Larry Dierker can't manage anymore for health reasons, maybe he can GM..hmmmmm)

All that being said, I have no problem with whomever is the GM telling the field manager who to play. The GM is the man when it comes to the players. He should have the final say.

If Miley wants to lead Aurillia off, I'd want O'Brien telling him he was crazy and not to do it.

He does need to have at least one really strong year here to boost his chances of going in as a Red.

In the Reds favor I would think is the fact that he is a Cincinnati kid and his dad enjoyed some of his best years here. He also hit HR No. 400 and 500 in a Reds uniform. But clearly his MVP years were all in a Mariners uniform. Tough call.
