Why does it take a slow, weak hitting middle infielder getting injured before finally putting up a respectable lineup card?

Probably the same reason 3 years of Colorado Rockies quality pitching occured in Cincinnati.

Lack of imagination, common sense and cajones.

CincyRedsFan30

I would still like Dunn a little higher, Casey a little lower and Kearns a little higher, but this lineup is better(due to injury) than most have been this season.

If the lineup busts out today, hopefully it will give Miley some confidence to keep the same lineup for consecutive games

I was hoping Miley would give Bergolla a 'getaway day' start. Still don't understand the reasoning behind bringing him up, but that's the best part of being a Reds fan.

So.. is really going to be 85 in Cincinati today?

If so I'll say two things, one: It will be a factor. Two: Paul Wilson will look like a mess even if he pitches good.

It is going to be that warm, although there could be some late-day storms to cool things down.

And I agree that it will be a factor and that Paul will be a sweaty mess by the end, win or lose.

He and Hancock could go through two or three hats before getting out of the 6th on a day like today. ;)

Tim Stauffer is a pitcher that Adam Dunn should simply destroy. Stauffer would be smart to risk it with Randa though. Thus the flaw in Miley's lineups.

Sounds like O'Brien made some poor decisions in setting the 40-man roster.

Looks like it was much ado about nothing. But if I lived or worked in D.C., I would be a little paranoid about things like this.

Don't want to start out too negative but Paul Wilson has now allowed nine straight batters to reach base.

flyer85
05-11-2005, 12:37 PM
From BA on Stauffer
Strengths: Stauffer's best pitch is a plus changeup. He also throws an 89-92 mph fastball, a cutter and a developing curveball. His pitches work better than their grades because he can throw all of them for strikes at any point in the count. Managers and coaches at every level praised his grit and determination.

Weaknesses: Stauffer lacks a true major league out pitch, and he was hittable last year. He's close to his ceiling, leaving little room for projecting him beyond a No. 3 or 4 starter, not the typical expectation for a No. 4 overall choice. His curve can flatten out at times.

The problem this is season so far is pitching, pitching and pitching. I believe we have the hitters, no question. When we keep blowing 9th inning leads or give a team 10 runs the first inning, you are not going to win many games.

One thing that is kinda funny is Dunn takes some flack for not driving in enough runs but the last two series have put an exclamamtion point on the fact that for the most part with runners on they still prefer to pitch around him and take their chances with whoever the next batter is.

Yep, they don't respect Randa very much.

This team is so pathetically predictable.

Reds load the bases twice -- once with no outs; once with 1 out and get a total of ZERO runs against a rookie pitcher making his first Big League start.

Then Ryan Klesko, 7-14 in his career against Paul Wilson with 5 HRs hits a 3-run HR.

There is a reason why the Reds are in last place.

I don't think we really have to search for excuses for Wilson...this is just his career norm. If anything, last year was the abberration and he was seriously overvalued by this crack front office which is oh-so-easily fooled. Just like Jimmy Haynes, who had his career year here and then imploded the following season, this is hardly a surprise from Wilson. The Tampa Bay Devil Rays didn't give up on him for no reason.

It wouldn't be to "work out an injury". Sometimes pitchers try to pitch through some discomfort, as long as it's not too painful. Paul seems like the type that would do that.

This start might be the one that causes a decision on him to be made.

The team did something similar with Pena apparently. He PH while not totally healthy last week, and then was finally sent to the DL yesterday.

understood - I was speaking in jest. However, if they did call up the lizard in anticipation of moving Wilson to the DL, the Pena situation would not even be comparable. Using a potentially injured guy in a PH role vs. a pitcher throwing throwing through discomfort are two different things.
