I agree with Jimenez playing over Freel today(Jimenez is 3-6 against Lieber and Freel has never faced him.)

My beef with Miley is his continually batting Dunn 5th. He gets nothing to hit down in the order. I won't be satisfied until Dunn is hitting 2nd, 3rd, or 4th.

CincyRedsFan30

I'm not too worried about Jimenez' small sample size against Lieber. I want the catalyst(Freel) in there.

I hope Jimenez proves he should be starting this game, but I don't know if he will.

I'd like to give Kearns some at bats in the cleanup spot to try to get him going. This was the reason Miley claimed he had Aurilia hitting second a few games ago; the difference is that Kearns may truly be able to hit. Dunn is the Reds best hitter, so he hits third.

That's an exceptional lineup RB, albeit one we are likely never to see with a guy like Miley at the helm. Batting Dunn so low in the order, batting an empty, production challenged plodder like Casey #3, sticking Kearns in the bottom 1/3 of the lineup when he does get a start, opting on your #1-2 based on their position rather than their OBP, giving Aurilia/Freel Kearns'/WMP's starts before the injury. There are a laundry list of grievances with the way Miley constructs his lineups and utilizes his personnel (and they aren't the type of petty trivialities fans like to pick apart with any manager's batting orders, they are significant and legion).

Tonight's lineup is only slightly less inane than his typical inane lineups (i.e ones which featured Aurilia #2, no Felipe, Kearns/WMP on the bench etc... and even much of that is arguably attributable to Aurilia's injury, not intelligent design). I have no problem with DJ getting a start at 2B against a guy like Lieber tonight, though.

Abreu with payback for the bogus pick-off call. If not for Lieber hitting into a DP and a few well placed "at'em" balls, Ortiz would be in a great deal more trouble than a mere 2-0 deficit. There is a reason that this guy is giving up nearly 2 baserunners per inning. He's been fortunate tonight, against a pretty enfeebled Phils' lineup. He'll be a fireworks exhibition every start with his combination of poor location, bouts of wildness and belief that his modest stuff is more electric than it is.

Well, we're just going through a rough stretch. Every team goes through them. We are a better team than this. We have some guys injured and once they come back we'll be ok. Some guys aren't hitting. Our pitchers are struggling, but they'll get it figured out and we'll be ok. We're not panicing yet, we're just going through a rough stretch. It isn't like guys are going out there and not trying. I mean, no one is out there not trying to knock in runs. I don't know, that's baseball sometimes. We'll come out of it, we'll start having the breaks go our way soon. It all balances out in the end, we think we have a pretty good team. We have a veteran presence who have been through stretches like this, they've been there before and know how to handle stuff like this (of course they do, that's why we're still losing because we have players who aren't good enough to make up winning team). All we can do is show up every day and things will start going our way.

It's easy to see why he's getting hit at such a clip with the junk he is leaving WAY, WAY up in the zone, and as CW accurately said, the similarity in speed between his heater/offspeed selections. Just when you thought he couldn't get any worse than his 2.0+ WHIP and 375 BAA.

13 of 23 Phillies have reached base against Ortiz, including 4 EBH and 5BBs!! Thank the Reds arms, the Phillies baserunning strategy, and a few favorable umpiring calls that this isn't a route. Great to see Felipe take the walk, and follow it up with a steal... we'll get used to seeing a lot of that out of him at the top of the order/SS (pop, patience, and nice speed).
