For those of you keep your own perverse scorecard at home that's 7.6 of the teams runs and 8.6 % of the Teams RBI's in 11.4% of the teams total AB's.

In the 5th slot Dunn has accounted for 9.1% of the teams ab's, 14% of the runs scored and 14,8% of the RBI's

worst part of it is if Kearns continues to heat up, Dunn will be back to batting 6th. Gotta break up the lefties ;)

I want to know where I can get a "perverse" score card. That might make some of these games more interesting.

BTW- Casey is batting .314 with runners in scoring position (KRISP) so apparently that's not the key to driving runners in that some believe it to be.

Quite ironic that the most productive hitter is hitting fifth isn't it?

05-15-2005, 01:19 PM
Adam Dunn is clearly not the Reds most productive hitter. He strikes out way too much, his BATTING AVERAGE is horrible in those sitations, and he is not the least bit KRISPy.

The fact that he leads the Reds in both runs scored and runs driven in are mirages.

Plus, its Dunn fault that Larue and Kearns aren't hitting (They see Dunn on ESPN and want to join him on the highlights so they swing for the fences, hence their struggles) and if you take out all the games in which Dunn has had a hit then he is batting .000.

You guys need to get off your spreadsheets and calculators and learn this.

All joking aside, here's hoping Elizardo throws a good game today. That, or the Reds score 12 runs again. :)

If the guy never batted lefty again, it would be too soon. His game, his approach is WAY off still. A good week can't cancel a month and a half of total putrescence. Like black hole, drain-on-the-offense bad.

Likewise a month can't cancel a solid career. This guy was .280/.380/.436 hitting LH last year. He's .269/.356/.416 hitting LH since 2002. For his career he's more than 100 OPS points better hitting LH.

True, it's hyperbole I know, but the guy's game isn't so electric (even when things are going good) that you should feel ashamed to relegate him to pinch-hitting duties when he sours. There are WAY better options than that guy at 3.5 million or whatever.

Regardless of the 2 HR's, they HAVE been solo shots, and otherwise, he is pitching very well today. For not having an out pitch, that is a nasty hook he has. Thru 5, only giving up 2 runs and getting himself out of trouble the one time he was in it, he has earned my trust for another start.

He'd put together nine solid months since arriving in Cincinnati. The White Sox jettisoned him for one bad month (June 2003) at age 24. I'm telling you, if his May continues like it's been going April's going to look like a blip on the radar screen.

I'm not saying he didn't have a horrible start or that he's not still trying to put his LH stroke together, but he's got a well-documented history of offensive solidity from the LH side and he's starting to round into form. IMO, you're blowing his lousy April way out of proportion.

Maybe, but he's been respectable one week out of six. He's brutal to watch right now. I said it a thousand times about Boone, but REALLY good players don't slump for a month. Unfortunately, you really cannot make too much out of a first start for a player. Ramirez has the advantage of being "new," in that there hasn't been a chance for hitters to look at video of his starts and pick out pitch selection tendencies, release points, and other tips in his delivery that they can use to get ahead of him.

Look at what happened to Matt Belisle...he has a great first start against St. Louis being new, then hitters went to school on him and his curveball and suddenly he couldn't get anyone out.

D'Angelo's no superstar and he's not likely to become one, but he is a useful major league regular.

Bad months happen, even to REALLY good players (Ken Griffey Jr. for instance). When those bad months are completely out of line with what that player normally delivers you've got to have some confidence that he's going to come around, like Jiminez has been doing for the past 10 days or so.
