Fire Miley right now :thumbdown

Even if Aurilia some how gets 5 hits it makes zero sense to start him over Austin Kearns.

Walkerforpres
05-31-2005, 07:24 PM
I don't have a huge problem with it. Kearns obviously is struggling, although it seems like they're trying to find any reason whatsoever to get Aurilia in there. I didn't even know he *played* second base. Boo.

Why? Won't do any good. Things will be the same with Miley there or not.

Is Miley trying to put the best defensive alignment he can out on the field with today's lineup? Maybe he is even though Kearns is a pretty good outfielder I would have to give the nod to Aurilla over Freel @ 2nd.

I wouldn't. Freel/Lopez is the best MIF combo we've had in a long time.

I wouldnt give the nod to aurillia over freel at 2nd, maybe at SS, but not at 2nd. Maybe Miley has a man crush on Aurillia....:all_cohol

Does Aurilla have so dirt on Miley or DB, he seems to be given everything he wants.

I heard he told them he would only play one game in AAA, and he didn't even want to do that.

Seriously...how do you let a role player player dictate what moves you make? Unreal.

Don't you think it's a problem when he's taking playing time away from a starter... a young, superior player with a whole lot of upside that could turn it around at any moment?

I do.

And who will he take playing time away from tomorrow?

If they don't want Kearns in there, I'd rather see Jacob Cruz playing for a change. Jacob is being sorely neglected so far this season... even when it comes to pinch hitting.

Is anybody really surprised by this? You knew this day was coming, just fortunately, Lopez wasn't affected at all by this. It's only a matter of time before putting Aurilia in the lineup everynight will cost Miley his job.

This is just baffling

Seriously...how do you let a role player player dictate what moves you make? Unreal.

When your "role player" hit 37 HRs in 2001, yet has failed to post an OPS over .735 in every year since, he must be an integral, must-play "power hitter".
The FO learned their lesson on Danny Graves and the huge gap in his reputation and performance, yet they continue to defiantly play Aurilia nearly every day despite his obvious decline in production.

If they're just giving Kearns a day off because of his struggles and don't start Aurilia for at least another 4-5 days, I have no problem with this for tonight.......and tonight alone. :)

This is such a dumb managerial move,,, is Miley truly this stupid... obviously the answer is yes.

Wonder if he'll put WMP on the bench in favor of Rich Aurilia when he gets back????

Unless it's the one who signed Aurilia in the first place who is dictating him being in the lineup.

Starting a sub-medoza line hitter with a stone glove over a potential franchise cornerstone outfielder and a potential All Star shortstop will result in losses. And when those losses build up, somebody has to be the scapegoat, and that person is Miley, IMO (when it should be DanO too).

KronoRed

oh hey Krono! Do you agree with that? It seems to me that once he finishes his rehab assignment he should be inserted immediately? Platooned w/ Kearns, I mean.

Playing Houston doesn't feel the same with Bagwell out of the line-up. I noticed that he's been DLed for a while now with a right shoulder sprain, and having seen him play up-close in April, you could tell it was causing him some serious pain. Anyone read about his future with the club? Could his career be over?

He's out for at least 3 months after shoulder surgery, and before that was reporting that "the pain is always there". He'll probably miss the entire season, with possibly a few concilatory ABs in September if he happens to rehab that quickly.
I'd bet on him sitting out the year and then trying a final season in '06. With that much rehab, it could be beneficial to him and allow him another year or so.

I thought it was due to his severe arthritis. They were talking about him during the game last night and were wondering if this would be his last year.

Dunn touching his butt repeatedly at 1st. Creek must be happy for that one.

LaRue sends a shot down the 3rd base line that Ensberg makes a great play on, but can't get the throw there in time. Infield single, 1st and 2nd and 2 outs.

Walkerforpres

LaRue over his 10-game streak : .405, 3 HRs, 12 RBIs. That's impressive.

Belisle with an infield single off of Backe's legs. Sacks packed, 2 outs.

This board makes Rich Aurilia out to be the devil himself. Cut the guy a break. It's not his fault the Reds are where they are. He is struggling (which hardly makes him unique on this 21-30 team) and may never be an above average player again. But he doesn't deserve the hate that is thrown his way on RedsZone. Remember, hate, fear, aggression are all paths to the Dark Side.

LaSorda when asked in 1989 if his Dodgers were trying, said this:

"Trying is not important. Truck drivers can try. If I brought truck drivers in and told them to try for $800,000 a year, they would try from 3 a.m. to midnight. I don't want triers, I want doers. For $800,000 a year, I would wrestle pirannahs."

Berkman is a certifiable Reds Killer.

And of course he doubles to left, scoring one run, but Dunn hits Lopez, who hits LaRue to throw out the second runner at the plate for the 3rd out.

3-2 Astros. Poor pitch selection by Belisle/LaRue/whoever that entire inning.

Not hard when the batters help you a little bit. Instead of making him throw some pitches, the Reds get impatient (sound familiar?) and go hacking. Seven-pitch inning? Yeesh.

LaRue grounds out to short for the 3rd out.

Welsh spent at least 5 minutes talking about how Belisle actually should be rooting for LaRue to make an out so that he could go back out for the 7th inning. Of course, Belisle was still in the dugout, on TV, the entire time, when if he even remotely was going to chance a plate appearance, he would have been in the vicinity of the on-deck circle. Classic.

Stone in to pitch.

6 Ks in the last 2 innings for Cincinnati compared to *1* K in the first 7. That's a team-wide brain cramp right there.

Very common theme for this club the past few years under Boone and Miley.

Tonight was a classic Reds "flinch". They go up 2-1 on JR's homer, give the lead right back, then go down a very meek 1-2-3 when they get a chance to respond...game over right there.

I don't blame Miley for the bad ball players but I blame him for the lacksidasical play, mental mistakes, lack of hustle, poor execution and terrible lineups.

The fact he still has a job is proof positive that there is absolutely ZERO commitment to winning at the top of this organization.
