Just a little tip (for anyone) - if you want to preserve the format of statistics, include them within a [ code ] and [ /code ] (with no spaces before/after the brackets).

You know Oswalt's foaming at the mouth, and is pumped up for this game. (13-0 in 17 career starts)

The streak stops here tonight. 13-1!

Reds will be winners of 7 of 10 after tonight (because Aurilia's out of the lineup).

Five runs in the first five innings against Oswalt.

2 outs 2 on. Yeah, the last batter got a hit. So what! Ortiz was doing well this last inning. Give him a chance.

You bring in Wagner in a situation like that. First line of defense w/ runners on should ALWAYS be the K guy, not the lefty/righty nonsense.

It seems like Mercker allows a lot of inherited runners to score lately. I'm sure it's just perception since it's fresh in mind, but still....

Here's why relievers ERA's are not the best indicator - Mercker comes in and gives up a double and a walk before he gets the one out to end the inning and his ERA goes down even though he allowed two runners to score.

Falls City Beer
06-01-2005, 10:07 PM
Oh well, those two extra runs aren't going to factor into the outcome anyway, there's no way the Reds score on Wheeler or Lidge.

Sad thing is, lefties actually hit Merker better than righties. Phil was actually helping out, well, sort of.

That is why Merker's ERA looks decent. But he has given up runs to inherited runners more than once this year..

And if you're going to go with LH/RH "matchups", there's no reason to not counter a RH hitter with a RH pitcher anyway (i.e. Lane with Wagner).

That being said, you're right- If Adam Everett, Willy Taveras, and Jason Lane are the guys in question, there's no excuse. Bad pitching gets beat by bad hitting more often.

2 outs 2 on. Yeah, the last batter got a hit. So what! Ortiz was doing well this last inning. Give him a chance.Yup, and isn't the first time this season. I remember earlier in the season he brought in Mercker to face Lenny Harris, which played into McKeon's hand and the righty came up and got a big pinch hit. Nice job for Ortiz to get 4 runs charged to him in what was a very good outing.

I know this going to be very unpopular, but I think Miley is WAY worse than Boone. Boone was not the primary problem in his tenure here. Miley's asserted himself as a huge problem in the failure of this team. I stand by the belief that this team should be performing better than they are, but are being undercut by Miley's idiocy.

The game plan changed: the orders were "field a winner." No way the Reds shell out that kind of cash without expecting a winner.

Moby Dick was an albino sperm whale--discussed at great length in one of the finest pieces of writing put to paper on this continent, the chapter entitled "The Whiteness of the Whale." It's like it was written yesterday with a full understanding of Freud, Lacan, and Jung.
