How about Griffey?

And the fact that you are a Reds fan?

And the fact that we are as good as scoring team as there is in the National League.

And the fact you are a Reds fan.

And that fact that we probably have the (potentially) top power hitter in baseball, be it Dunn or Pena.

And the fact you are a Reds fan.

And the fact that some players can (and will) improve.

I believe that many posters here have panned Harang, Lopez, Pena, Claussen a large amount of time. Now they are our salvation. Funny.

Those of us who were born Red's fans (and you know who you are) don't have any choice. Heck, some of us still defend Pete.

Eric_Davis

Not even close. Eric's hit was big, really big, and I remember it and him with great affection. And I loved the 90 team. But we're talking game 7 not game 1. The Reds are down 3-0 in the 6th inning, we haven't won a world championship in over 35 years, we lost in ''61, '70, and '72. We were one lousy pitch away from winning the night before and we blew it, and Lee was absolutely cruising. It really looked like the handwritting was on the wall, we were going to lose again to a team that just wasn't in our class. And then Tony changed all that with one swing. Not even close, and I bet you won't find anyone who witnessed both hits who would disagree with me.

I witnessed both hits. I disagree. Though your point makes more sense.

When the Reds finally released Jimmy Haynes, Miley made the snide remark about not being able to give away a game every fifth day, or something to that effect. Funny how he found $25 M reasons that someone who has pitched just as bad as Haynes keeps getting handed the ball, leaving the team little chance to win every fifth day. Ok, I left the room for three minutes... why is Cruz playing first? As far as I know there is nothing wrong with Casey it is just the game is over so they are giving Cruz a chance to play a few innings.

I wonder why it's praise-worthy that Manny has learned to be patient and dropped his BA 30 points, but it's not praise-worthy for Dunn to be patient at the plate and thus have a lower batting average.... huh?

OK, I have another pet peeve. That was a really nice play by Lopez... why didn't they say so? They don't hesitate to say so when it's the other team!

Sorry guys, this game has made me really really grumpy.

Nah. I'm just sitting here contemplating the meaning of life and the complexities of spending so much money to improve the pitching and actually making it worse in the process.

It makes my head hurt.

It's obvious that Grande is slipping as a PBP guy, what with all the recent name mixups. I think it only fair they force him out like they did Nuxie. <crossing fingers>

I did not read the whole game thread....so maybe this was discussed.....but can somebody tell me why in high heaven does Miley let Milton face David Ortiz with the bases loaded and two outs when it is still a game?

I mean, why are Mercker and Kiesler on the team if they aren't used right there?

Just wondered if that was discussed and if there was a good reason.

It's because Milton knows how to win.

At least that's what people told me this offseaon...

Around Pg 16.. Redszoners were wondering why

1.. There was no one getting loose in the BP (before the bases were loaded)
2. Milton was left to pitch to Ortiz.

They were, of course, left wondering.

The discussion in the game thread was pretty much like, "What the heck is he doing leaving Milton in so long and not having anyone warm in the pen". (I used nice words)

Well, in Miley's little world (and head)...

Keisler pitched yesterday. Can't dream of having him pitch twice without someone else getting a chance.

Mercker is a "set up" man...so he can't be used before the 7th (at earliest).

That leaves Milton as the only lefty to pitch to Ortiz...unless he brings in a righty...which he can't do because if he brings in a righty and Ortiz gets a hit...everyone will think he is stupid and doesn't play the matchups right...

So, basically in the world of CYA...Miley had no choice.

The obvious answer to both questions is that Milton was cruising and then the wheels came off. He's a battler, so we were hoping he could "moxy" his way through it. We have no idea what the solution is.

06/13/2005 Reds roughed up in return to Fenway
Milton gives up nine runs in 5 2/3 innings
By Anthony Castrovince / MLB.com

BOSTON -- We'll start with the good news, because Eric Milton is probably in need of something positive right about now.
Milton didn't allow any home runs on Monday night. That's the good news.

The bad news for Milton and the Reds is that the left-hander gave up plenty of other hits in the Reds' 10-3 loss to the Red Sox at Fenway Park.

Milton (3-8, 7.97 ERA) was beat up for nine runs on 11 hits over the course of 5 2/3 innings, giving his team little chance of coming up with a victory against right-hander Matt Clement (7-1, 3.78). The Red Sox went up, 2-0, early on Edgar Renteria's two-run double in the third, and a three-run fourth inning gave them a 5-0 edge.

By the time the Reds put two across with Felipe Lopez's RBI triple and ensuing run scored on Rich Aurilia's sacrifice fly, the Red Sox were in a groove against Milton.

That groove led to a sixth inning in which Milton gave up a two-run single to David Ortiz and left two runners on for reliever Matt Belisle. Manny Ramirez then stepped up and hit a three-run homer to right that bounced out of Wily Mo Pena's glove and into the stands, sealing the Reds' fate in their first game at Fenway since the '75 World Series.
