Kelly time
Kenny Kelly makes his first big-league start tonight. He's playing left with Dunn getting a day off. Felipe is back up to second in the order and Randa is batting fifth. Casey's back, as well.

Ridiculous. Dunn homered and doubled last night, and gets rewarded by getting a day off. Miley has got to go.

Dunn has doubled and walked in 3 plate appearances vs Ramirez.

Miley is one strange dude, very Boonesque.. without the vocabulary. Dunn had a nice night last night and he's been pretty hot the last week.

.318/.464/.636/1.101

So he gets the blow against a guy he has a double and a BB against in 3 ab's.

On a friday night home game too.... that will draw the fans eh?

Dave Miley frantically yanking the switches like Casey Jones on the final strech.

One thing about season like this is that they are an interesting study in everything from character study to an examination of what exactly the teams philosphy is.

The Reds were built with the post strike offensive boom in mind (park, player types) and now they have a manager who wishes for Willie McGee, Terry Pendleton and Vince Coleman on the field.

Miley is managing exactly like I thought Oester would... just with his mouth closed.

That'll change Saturday. I think Miley puts Lopez 7th thinking he's giving Dunn protection down there. Lopez does provide protection but if he's going with that philosophy, I'd rather see Dunn 4th and Lopez 5th, since there's no way on Earth he'd go Dunn 2nd and Lopez 3rd.

My thought exactly! And it makes absolutely no sense.

Seems he does this a lot. Someone has a hot night and he benches him the next day... the first one that comes to mind is LaRue, but I know this same "approach" has been used with others.

I swear, sometimes I don't think DM wants to win. Either that, or he really is just stupid. This is the Braves after all, not Tampa Bay. If you're smart, don't you field your best team?

I just don't get it. I think I've said these five words a hundred times already this season... and I don't like them. I need a new schtick... if only Miley could help me out here.

BTW, anyone ever notice how Albert Pujoles NEVER gets a day of rest? He's on one of my fantasy teams so I notice.

Take a lesson DM.

I don't understand why you rest Dunn on a Friday night home game vs. the Braves, especially when the weather is perfect? I was thinking of going tonight for kicks, but forget it now, just one more reason "not" to go.

Does Miley enjoy losing games?

So, so tired of this nonsense.

I posted this on Reds Live.

But Dunn has hit lefties in the past, and has hit Ramirez well in a super duper small sample size. If Ramirez were a dominant lefty, I would have no problem with him sitting. But he is far from dominant...

he has served up 12 dingers, 79 hits and an awful 25bb/23k ratio in 71 innings.

I am beginning to believe Miley makes his lineups days in advance. It has no basis in reality. It does not matter who is hot or cold or who hits well against a certain pitcher. It does not matter how the team is playing. Every day he has pre-determined who is starting and who is sitting regardless of how the team is playing. Our lineups would not be much more ridiculous if he put everyones name in a hat and drew the lineup that way.

YOu know, I just got on here and read the posts as I can't get the game here at work. It's very similar to lasts weeks game against Baltimore when Ortiz gave up 3 runs in the 2nd and everyone said the game was over. Then, low and behold, there's Ortiz pitching 7 innings and winning. Check it out (http://www.redszone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=36571). Someone on Reds Live is accusing Dunn of playing poorly on purpose. I didn't know he was playing poorly. :dunno:

You know, Dunn seems to be more interested in winning than a lot of other guys on the Reds. He sure complains about losing more than anyone else does. he doesn't blame his team mates either. i think the guy is getting a bum rap.

Me, I'd trade Casey, if that's possible.

The funny thing is that no player has ever had a SLG% over .550 and a ob% under .310 for a season.

BTW it's raing cats and dogs here what's going on in the game, my dish is down.

10-5 Braves in the 7th. Braves have the bases loaded for Marcus Giles. 2 outs. Giles k's to end the inning.

<cough>soriano</cough>

Soriano has a lifetime OPS of about .820, with a high below .900.

He's a good offensive player. His OPS don't lie. Treating him like a god
is clearly wrong, but treating him like the .800 OPS guy he is is OK.

His OPS shows his true value.

That would solve the outfield problem.

Agreed 100%.

If the Mets are truly showing interest in Casey, I trade him.
