Aurilia- .095/.174/.143 in 21 at bats

Casey- .417/.417/.833 with a homer and a run batted in in 12 at bats

Griffey- .400/.400/.600 in 5 at bats

Randa- .333/.343/.606 with 2 homers and 6 RBI in 33 at bats

Utterly ridiculous. Dunn's going to get a lot of pitches to hit with LaRue protecting him.

I'm almost hoping he gets traded this point, to a team who realizes his talent and actually (gasp) recognizes that he's a middle of the order hitter.

With the premise of giving your best hitter the most abs, why one would want dunn in the middle of the order against a good lefty is beyond me. Plus, Miley was sitting him against lefties, so at least he's in the lineup. Dunn has accomplished a lot in his young career, but hitting lefties is still an area that needs work.

BTW, LaRussa will drop Edmonds down in the order to the 6 hole against lefties, I even think I've seen him bat him 7th at times. And LaRussa's record sucks

My only problem with Dunn hitting 7th against a lefty (which as WOY pointed out has merit) is Aurilia batting second.

Once again, I realize Aurilia has been hot of late, but never, ever, ever should Aurilia be getting more at bats in a game than Casey, Griffey, Randa (yes, even Randa and yes, this is still Puffy typing), Pena and even Dunn against a lefty.

If Aurilia stays hot then he provides protection in the short term for Dunn. But he should never, ever be batting second. Never.

I can't believe that everyone expects immediate gratification myself.

Human nature. Miley posted bad lineups daily and was shown the door so the expectation was that some improvement in the thought process used to write out the lineup card would be shown.

Me? I've seen Narron's lineups so I really didn't expect anything to change. According to him, he's "old school" (which, IMHO, is an insult to "old school"). If you don't strike out a bunch and he thinks you can "handle" the bat, you'll hit at the top of the lineup. If you do, Narron will bury you. That's always been his M.O. and I sure as heck don't think that's ever going to change.

This Reds organization is motivation and obfuscation instead of innovation so it's normal to see a new permutation of intense fan frustration and hateration in this baseballery.

My personal thanks to Mary J. Blige for creating what is possibly the dumbest "word" in the current English speaking world. Much appreciated.

big picture, bigger sample size. 450+ abs over the last 3 years including his poor performance so far (small sample size) this year.I understand the 3 year thing, which is an OPS advantage to Dunn of .846 to .820, which is basically a wash, but you said including this year, which simply isn't the case. Small sample size? Ok, but I can see why the one writing out the lineup has less confidence in Dunn. Against righties, I agree he should be higher in the order, preferably third for me. But hitting him low today, considering everything, is a reasonable conclusion, IMO

This is absolutely unacceptable. I have never been more frustrated with any sports team than I am with watching the Reds waste Adam Dunn. reasonable based on basically a month or so of slumping against lefties? That "wash" OPS difference includes the slumping period from this year. Its indicative of a flawed mindset that views strike outs as a special kind of out. Those who make outs the way "we" prefer (non-ks) can slump and not have their position in the order in jeopardy (Sean Casey through the years), while those that don't fit "the book" are jerked around like rag dolls in spite of evidence that they historically have been as good, or better.

No news on Kelly, according to Marty.

yeah, well the Reds also started the season 3-0.

However, if this keeps up we may have to rename them the "Narron Ham Red Fighters"

Kansas City went on an 11-4 run after Buddy Bell was hired. That could happen here, despite trips to Cleveland and St. Louis where the Reds rarely win.

The Jerry Narron Reds looking much better!

Notice all the small ball in effect! Home runs, doubles ... Narron does know what he's talking about!

(Sorry. Couldn't resist.)

And Pena earns his 2nd live chicken of the day.

But frankly, I'll take Dunn leading off the 2nd and 3rd Innings any day of the week. Would love to see him lead off Inning 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 as well.

Um...hopefully he won't need to lead off Inning nine. Hopefully...
