I always thought Narron wouldn't move Dunn from his spot in the order because it might be viewed as a slap in the face to Miley considering that was one of the things he got so much grief for (Thanks to GAC :) ).

A good thing. My guess is that Narron had to stick with the status quo to avoid ruffling feathers. Now that a week has passed and everyone is more comfortable, he can make changes. Where lineup construction and people management collide -- like it or not, that's a manager's world.

I'd also like to see Rey-Rey in there tonight.

Probably not well, but it is interesting to note that that's the way Bobby Cox usually handles it. He seems to like to give a player a slot in the lineup and keep them there.

He replaced Miley because "they" didn't like his results... so why would it be deemed such a horrible thing if Narron did things differently?

I only think it makes sense in the possible context that DanO has been making out the lineup card and Narron has convinced him to loosen his handcuffs a little. Who knows?

I dont see a problem with this. Dunn walks a ton, so if he gets on he will actually have someone to hit him in, and not have Larue or Romano batting behind him.

A manager has to worry about his relationship with his players just as much, if not more, than his relationship with the GM. In this case, Narron knows he's OK with O'Brien. He needs to establish that he's at least reasonably OK with the clubhouse, too. So, he doesn't start right out demoting Aurilia (or Casey, or whomever). It keeps the focus on the team (and the manager), rather than spotlighting potentially hacked off players, during the sensitive first few days of the transition. I think it's wise, but that's just me.

This makes absolutely no sense to me.

Outs are gold, Dunn makes fewer outs. Pitchers fear baserunners with legends and contact hitters coming up, it's a win win situation, Dunn either gets his hacks or gets on base with guys who can drive him in coming up.

This is a complimentary move, one that actually says.... hey we can't play small ball and win with our staff.

Ok. NOW I'm not buying it anymore.

They keep throwing Rich Aurila out there in the two slot and just now expect us to believe that they can as much as say "OBP" without slurring??

Uh-uh.

<crosses arms>

Nope. Not gonna get this guy. No way no how. Hrrrumph.

<draws imaginary line in sand with foot>

What's next? They gonna tell us that Felipe should make the All Star team because he has excellent RC/27 numbers? Nope. I refuse to purchase that product from guys who think that RC stands for cheap cola and that DIPs requires a chew cup.

Poseurs suck.

<hears Austin Kearns yell "Stop sucking!" in the background>

If things like "OBP" factor into things now, then I ask you- what's next? Where does it end??

Rock and roll music in the clubhouse?

Announcers who actually know what they're talking about?

Callups to players who can actually help based on performance instead of options?

Brad Kullman released from the iron maiden?

More focus on communication than chairs?

I MEAN REALLY! What kind of way is that to run a ballclub. Peturbed I am. Downright cranky. There is something most decidedly amiss and I am going to find out what it is.

<dons cowl and checks utility belt>

Bruce Wayne out.

Actually, WOY, the Cavs were w/o a draft pick this because of their mind-numbingly stupid trade last year for Jiri Welsch.

But they did manage to trade Welsch for a 2nd round pick in 2006 and then turned around and traded that pick to the Magic for Martynas Andriuskevicius-- a young 7'3 Lithuanian.

Does that answer your question? :)

Right now John Allen is contemplating which scenario will suck more money out of fans:

• Calling the game tonight (but in another 45 minutes or so) due to excessive water on the field. A Friday twi-night doubleheader is a rarity in Cincinnati and could fool an additional 5,000 people to buy tickets for tomorrow night when there should be more people in town for the start of the 4th of July weekend.

• Play tonight's game but don't start it until at least 9 p.m., forcing fans to spend money at concession stands and souvenir shops to pass the time.

Any effect that either decision may have on the pitching staff or player safety is irrelevant.

Your starting pitchers.

Edskin

OK, game has started:

Top 1st:

--Craig Biggio reaches on throwing error by F. Lopez (Biggio to second)
--Biggio advances to third as Reds are unable to return the ball to the mound in timely manner
--Ump goes ahead and waves Biggio home because "he's gonna score anyway!" No one argues.
--Willy Taveras Homers to left.
--Morgan Ensberg Homers to right.
--Lance Berkman Homers to Kentucky.
--Jerry Narron pleads to ump to please end the inning or else "we both know we'll be here all night." Ump agrees.

4-0 Astros

Bottom of first:

--Felipe Lopez triples to center
--Rich Aurilia grounds softly to SS-- on his way back to the dugout he complains that he wasn't giving sufficient notice prior to being inserted into the line-up. DanO begins work on new four year deal with RA.
--Sean Casey pops out on first pitch.
--Ken Griffey Junior vomits upon entering the batter's box. Assuming he's still sick, the trainer's rush to his aide. But he tells them that he feels fine-- he just caught a glimpse of Ricky Stone warming up in the bullpen. He's removed from the game for precautionary reasons.
--Wily Mo Pena enters the game and gets ahead 3-0 in the count. The next pitch lands six feet in front of the plate-- swing and miss. The next pitch somehow lands in the Astros dugout--swing and miss. The next pitch is rolled to the plate, pro bowler style-- swing and miss.

"I've been thinking about it a long while, really," Narron said. "We've all talked about it. Dunn gets on base. Casey drives in runs when guys are on base. Randa's going to get on base."

And with the Reds averaging 3.5 runs over the course of a four-game losing streak, Narron decided to put his thoughts to use.

Don't be kiddin' me! You've been reading Redszone Mr. Narron!

They just did an update on FSN and said that the Umps want to get the game in tonight. Right now they are working to get all the water off the field, and they said it would probably be about an hour before the game starts.
